Eh i prefer it that way actually. The best Episode featuring them was Dalek in the first Season of the Reboot. Given that there was alot of exposition on the Time War and a interesting dialogue between the Dalek and the Doctor. As well as a neat ending to it when both sides realized how they changed. The Ending to the first Season also worked, i.e. a last Battle of the Time War where both sides were virtually wiped out, except for the Doctor and as we learn later, the Cult of Skaro, which i liked as Villians as they were few in Number and being able to think like the Enemy, which made them a bigger Threat than the Emperor and later Davros and his Empire.

Also showed some interesting development away from "We kill everything". I.e. Sec and Caan changing, the latter ultimately destroying his own Race by manipulating the Doctor to do so, in a manner of speaking. When they were brought back in Season 5 i actually thought "Not again", given that they were now back to their usual Self and again somehow survived when it was made clear that they should be destroyed for good. Though the Cliffhanger Ending worked as they were remade into a more powerful, pre-time war Race. Hence by any definition the Doctor doesnt stand much of a chance against them right now, at least he wouldnt be able to defeat them without killing himself, as was shown in that Episode.

I'd actually prefer they go after other Storythreads, i.e. the Silence, whoever was behind the Silence because, lets face it. They may be devious and manipulative, but they have nowhere near the Power to destroy a Tardis or manipulate it to become stuck in the first place. Which means someone else was behind this. And im still hoping that it was Omega. For those that dont know, Omega is one of the Founders of the Time Lords and the only other surviving Time Lord in Existence given that he actually lives in a Anti-Matter Universe, hence he would technically be capable of influencing the TIme Lord Technology and such.

There is also that single part left open with Jenny, ya know, the Doctor's Daughter, who may make a re-appearance at some Point in time, potentially surviving Time Lords, as i doubt they would re-use the Master again after the Christmas Specials where he was not only "destroyed" but also time-locked as he forced Rassilon back into the Time War, along with himself. Hence instead of re-using older Enemies like the Daleks and arguably the Cybermen, they should rather focus on new Enemies like the Silence and potential surviving Time Lords, like the Rani for example, or as i hope, Omega. As he would be a very interesting "Big Bad Guy" Type of Enemy for the Doctor.

I'm game with a break from the Daleks. The new design introduced last season looked pretty silly anyway. Besides, the Silence is where it's at - I wanna see more of those.

They're only off for the remainder of this series. Moffat tweeted that retraction this morning. I'm definitely okay with a break from them though. After RTD ended his tenure as showrunner, I'd had enough of them.

Yeah, but they'll leave it half a season at most, whereas they need to leave it for about a generation for them to be interesting again.

Yea, this was in the Daily Express this morning. I'm pretty ok with this. I haven't missed the Daleks at all since last year. Although I am disappointed as I'd heard rumours of an Old Dalek vs New Dalek war for this series.

Edit: Also, wishing no offence to OP but what a boring thread title! The opportunity for a decent pun was right there!

About (EFF!)ing time. They haven't been a credible threat since Christopher Eccleston, and it's about damn time they were given a break.

To compare with the old series: Tom Baker was the Doctor for seven years, and met the Daleks twice. David Tennant was the Doctor for four years, and met the Daleks three times. They've suffered from overexposure, which in itself is going to diminish their effectiveness, because, as everyone knows, the less you see something, the more frightening it is. But more importantly, in almost every one of their last appearances, they have been annihilated at almost no cost; it's impossible to believe they're a threat any more. In the first season of the revamped series, a single Dalek killed 200 people; in the season finale, everyone except the Doctor and Rose was killed by Daleks. Even though the Daleks ultimately lost, it came at a great price and they were a serious threat. Fast-forward three years and they've been genocided three times without much difficulty. It's about damn time they're gone.

And yet, the Cybermen are coming back for the finale. The horrible, revamped-series Cybermen which want to be Daleks so bad they might as well yell EXTERMINATE! Damn it all.

He never said they were gone forever, so I'm on board. Russel T Davies used the Daleks every series and it just got a bit samey, you know? Like, "oh, its them again" whenever they showed up, to the point that however awesome he made them, they were never truly awesome because everyone saw them coming.

I'm in favour of them sitting out for a prolonged period of time. That way when they do come screaming back, it'll be truly awesome to see them again after so long.

Their retirement seems genuine but I'm calling bull on the reasons why - could be with the hope that Moffat can brush the debacle with their 'Power Rangers' redesign under the carpet.

As for frequent adversaries, they weren't quite in the 'Team Rocket' league but if the flip-side means more diversity of adversaries then I'm game.

I welcome this as their outing in the last series were a bit lackluster, like a washed up award winning actor making a cheap cameo in a sitcom. I felt sorry for them. Hopefull when he brings them back he will see sense and find a way to retcon them back th their old design. For someone who has designed monsters as scary as the weeping angels would realise that BRIGHT PRIMARY COLOURS DOES NOT A FRIGHTENING MONSTER MAKE!

It's good, you can't kill of the supposed biggest enemy and then have them reappear a few episodes later. Things are only menacing if they keep that feel of strength, which can't happen if they lose every season.

Huh, wonder where Daleks go for a day off?
Dalek's like the beach too! SHOCKING TWIST!

OT: Well I doubt they'll be gone forever but giving them a break will allow the writers to make their next appearance more spectacular.

Man that is really good to hear. It's getting annoying how this small elite group always survives and a few episodes later they have a huge army...

Sadly to keep the rights to the Daleks they have to use them at least once every season I think. I guess we can expect them after the break...

For me I welcome it because for me they don't strike fear any more now that they are enemy's like The Silence and Weeping Angels.
Well seeing how it took Moffat only two episodes to completely ruin the pants-wetting horror that was the weeping angels, I'm kinda glad that he's decided not to do anything with the Daleks. I'd hate to find out that the reason they've been trying to murder the universe since the 60's was because they had accidentally confused the definitions of "exterminate" and "hug"

Agreed, I'm fine with it. Every hero needs an arch nemesis and we all know they Daleks will never be gone for good so, for now, it's really awesome to see the great new villains Moffat has come up with

I'm not too bothered, as long as Davros pops up when they come back. He's only popped up once in the new series.
