However.

Apparently the Escapist is older than it let's you know. Also apparently I'm older than I thought.

Who knew?
That's...older than the world itself. Unless...do you happen to have your timezone set to GMT-5?

I repeatedly have a glitch that says I have 1001 new messages.
I think, holy shit, it's happened, I've reached daystar popularity. I click the message box and see that it is just a glitch, and my entire day is ruined.

I've never had that glitch and I hope I never do.

I'd probably cement my ass shut with the amount of fecal material that would shoot out from there.

On a side note, I'd kinda glad to be a 1.5k poster who goes largely unnoticed. I love chirping in with an opinion and hearing the lovely sound of silence in return.

Kinda peaceful, really.

Yeah, Usergroups will do that to you...

OT: Fuck, man... That must be some glitch. Never happened to me before, but still, I'd freak the fuck out if that happened to me.

Came up as 3902. I laughed, knowing it to be an error. That, or my notification settings for user groups changed, and I'd missed a week.

That happened to me once.
I thought I had suddenly become really cool and clicked eagerly. I was anxious to hear how much you all loved me.

It was a mod warning. :(

Really? You sure you don't get just a bit of pleasure when someone notices you, and quotes you, like I just did? None at all?
OT: There's been reports of that happening before. As other people said, the hamsters didn't get fed today, or something.

I have 560 messages in my inbox right now, most of them are notifications for user groups.

I once joined one and forgot to turn notifications off, so the next day I logged on and had like 40 in my inbox. I was about to delete them and fix my mistake, but then I thought, hey, lets see how high we can get.

The answer is that when you have around 600 a few are automatically deleted, in case anyone is wondering.

And yeah, I've seen that bug before.
I'm doing this with my unread emails. I originally decided I'd stop at 1000, but once I got there I realized I'd have to start deleting them, so... 1277 right now.

OT: I've had this glitch twice before

considering the only groups in which I am part of are set to send me news announcements, and nothing else, anything higher than like... 3 or 4 is a lot for me, and usually means that a bunch of people are arguing with me in a topic. Though I'm pretty much always right, so a lot of the times people won't even bother trying to argue with me... unless it's opinion, rather than fact, then usually it ends with both sides clarifying their position and agreeing to disagree, after all, everyone has an opinion, and the right to have it.

But yeah, if I had this glitch prior to knowing it exists(like I do now), I would've been rather confused, as I tend to lurk a lot more than I post, and usually I only hace a conversation going in 2-3 topics, so 5000 quotes/PMs across 2-3 topics, would be kinda freakish.

You mean like quote notifications? I barely just found out that was possible. It would have helped me a long time ago with replying to forum topics, that's for sure. xD
I apparently used to be insanely quotable in my early forum using years, on old forums before coming here, quote notifications were one of the first general forum functions I learned to use to help with direct forum communications to specific groups of forum members in threads, after all, it's hard to keep track of all the places you post to manually look for replies, especially if you're a topic drifter like me... lol

I'm like a wandering forum vagrant or something, but I know a bunch of stuff about a bunch of stuff, so I almost always find some new thread to post in, and share my 2 cents.

Just, 5000 of them would be quite something, especially since I almost always answer people within the day they send it, so... that would mean that I would either hafta get more than I could afford the time to respond to, enough times constantly that I got to that number, or it would have to be all at once, which would blow my mind.

Mmm, never had that glitch, but I did have one saying I joined the escapist at some insane date, like 1945 or something. Which was odd.

Yeah, I've had it before. 'twas something around 2000. It went back to normal after I refreshed the page. I wonder what causes it.

Oi...man I've been doing it all wrong this whole time - I actually book marked and went back to threads during my browse time to see if anyone replied and what not. :X

I don't know a wholeee lot, but enough to have various thread conversations going. >:)
:p Nothing wrong with the method you were using, but quotation, and the notifications it gives people makes it even easier to keep tabs on stuff, and talk to people more directly, gives you an overall greater chance of people responding to you and sparking convos... usually.

The most I ever had was like 12000 before I realised that you can turn the notifications of group chat off
