So, I only just got round to watching the latest episode of Dr. Who. I see it wasn't reviewed favorably by the escapist. What I'm wondering, is if some of Danny Pinks behavior could be considered as the beginnings of an abusive relationship?

Aside from his instant jealousy at Clara's interaction with another man, even someone who obviously has no romantic chemistry with, and more physically resembles a father, I find his obsession with knowing exactly what Clara has been doing and what her intentions are a bit full on.

his entire thing has been "don't lie to me", and while I get that relationships should be founded on honesty, I found the comment he made at the end of the episode a bit sinister:

"I know men like him. I've served under them. They push you and make you stronger till you?re doing things you never thought you could. I saw you tonight, you did exactly what he told you. You weren't even scared ? and you should have been.

If you break that promise, Clara, we?re finished."

Clara not being scared, and not conforming to the behavior he deems to be correct just seems a little....controlling, and threatening to end the relationship seems to me to be emotional manipulation.

So, am I being too Tumber-y or does anyone else get a weird vibe from the guy?

In one of the earlier episodes Danny was described as a lady killer, and other characters kept going on about him killing people. Maybe he's going to murder Clara?

On the other hand maybe Danny is worried about Clara constantly putting herself in danger when she's with the Doctor.

I think they should do it. That would definitely be treading new ground for the series. Or actually go through with the abusive relationship angle.

True enough, although I feel its her decision as she was doing it well before Danny was on the scene. I would be highly pissed off if my girlfriend told me I couldn't do something that had been an integral part of my life any more because she didn't like it. Especially when she herself had done something similar in the past.

I don't think that was jealousy. I think it was more that he resented her being so close to someone who treated him like such crap right off the bat.

As for the whole speech at the end, that seemed more like worry than anything else. He doesn't want her to march to death just because somebody asks her to.

I think she's worse, with the whole travelling back in time and interacting with him as a child, thus imprinting herself onto his psyche and making him feel things for her that he probably wouldn't have if she hadn't played a major part in his childhood during a possible crisis... and as a teacher she should know what an abuse of power and position that is. I mean she probably wouldn't creep into the bedroom of one of her current male students at night, but apparently it's OK if you use time travel and already fancy them (and intend to date them and have sexual relations) in the future.

In terms of dodgy behaviour and creepy ethics, she's Professor Creepy McDodgy, Emeritus Professor of Unethics at Dodgy University.

Still, if he does get a bit abusey, she can just travel back in time to when he's a small child and become his hero and childhood crush again, and condition him so he wouldn't ever think of raising a hand to her.

Besides, she's also under the protection of an angry Scotsman armed with a screwdriver, so she'll be fine.

Well...in that anything could be the beginning of an abusive relationship. Saying that lying to him would be a deal-breaker...nothing that odd there.

Though, it would certainly be new to have an abusive relationship. OF course, it's also fairly new to have a serious relationship between a white companion and a black companion/bf[footnote]Mickey and Rose don't count, as she was always going to leave him for the Dcotor, and he was a crap comical relief character[/footnote]....um...yeah...

Well, I wish he would come to the conclusion that 'she lied because if she told the truth Id think she was crazy or lieing and Id stop dating her'

But, I get the feeling this relationship has been going on for a while now and they skipped some time. I do understand hating it when somebody lies to you, lieing is bad, and making a habit of it is a problem for a relationship.

I think that stuff about officers might be linked to why Mr Pink isnt in the army anymore. Prehaps he had officers who pushed him to do great things, but also that awful thing hes done that he keeps hinting at having haunt him.

Don't think they're going anywhere like that. He's just emotionally vulnerable and he's stating upfront what he can and can't deal with. That he was obviously hurt by her keeping secrets and is willing to move past that suggests he's being reasonable.

In many ways, I see him as the Not-Rory in that they're trying to deal with the situation in a much more emotionally realistic way. He's not entirely cool with it, but he's going to be supportive... and it's probably setting up a situation where the Doctor pushes things too far and she needs his support.

Nah, it just seems like he's-

a) tired of putting up with her lying to him
b) tired of people giving him shit for being an ex soldier
c) worried that she's going to get hurt travelling around with a madman in a box

There's nothing abusive about not wanting to put up with bullshit constantly. They're obviously building to something, but if it's going to be any kind of abusive relationship it'll be the one between Clara and the Doctor, not Clara and Danny.
