Yes and The Inforno is one part of.... THRE!!!
Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradisio.
Yeah, and i whooped all that *** in Bayonetta,
which did a far better job than Dante's Inferno.

That said, there's only one Dante i'd love to see back in a game.
Where's my DMC 5?

But there are three poems. And the game only covers the first one.Which is called Dante's Inferno.Like the game.
The second one is about called Purgatory. And well, you can guess what it's about.
While the third and last one is called Paradise, and is essentially about heaven and how great it is.

OT:I don't really see how they can make a game about either Purgatory or Paradise.

So what is really next? I don't really see to much Dante can do now, since he already went through hell, and basically destroyed it. So what now?
Considering how it ended?

You have Satan in Purgatory in the form of a snake. That's a big hint at one of the epic baddies. Next, you have Angels that guard Purgatory. Dante has to fight across Purgatory because they(probably angels) view him as a 'not supposed to be there' type. Drop in four bosses, and in the end you help Satan get into heaven where the third sequel is in place.

The possibility is pretty open for what they could do though.
...That actually makes lots of sense. But is Dante in purgatory now? Anyway, great idea.

Pretty sure that's what they were hinting at. Granted, I just watched the collection of animations they released near the same time as the game(No next-gen consoles, I'm a PC gamer mostly.)

I don't want to start a fight, but even if Dante's Inferno is a GOW clone, it's a good clone. And for people saying there butchinring the original story, it only uses the setting, the characters, and the simple idea. It's not like there saying this is how the story really was.[/quote]

If anything, that's the problem, DI is a straight clone, but with a much less interesting plot, shittier puzzles.

I think you guys have it wrong. The aim was never to butcher the hell mythology, but rather a classic tale. If there is going to be a sequel, my money is on The Odyssey, or if they are really going to stick to the Italian realm, Virgil's Aneid.

I hope they don't make a sequel. One butchering of a literary classic is bad enough.

If they did it would have to be purgatory which I would really hope does not get made. It doesn't make any sense to set the next game in Purgatory. You really can't fight any demons there seeing as hell is where the demons are at.

I just don't like how it is called Dante's Inferno. The only parts of it that have to do with the book is Virgil, the name Dante and Beatrice, and the Hell Dante wrote about. That is all that this game has to do with the book.

It is just a loosely adapted work. If that is the case why make the game in the first place if you aren't going to stick to the story?
Because walking through 9 layers witnessing stuff isn't really entertaining.

Edit: Also, anyone who says DI ruins and massacres and rapes and blah blah blah the poem and doesn't say GOW is doing the exact same thing to Greek mythology is higher than Iron Man chasing the exosphere.

For the record that's pretty high

Of Course God Of War is doing the same thing to Greek Mythology.

The thing that irks me the most about it is that more people will now play the game and avoid the book. I hope that people who play the game also get inspiration to read the book.

This is pretty much the exact same reaction to when Uwe Boll makes a video game film. People get mad because he doesn't keep it the same as it was in the game.

Dante's Paradise?

I think that would be... interesting. Doesn't make sense. While the Inferno could be something made into a God of War clone, where there would be wrathful beings and lots of violence... but in Heaven? Paradiso just deals with Dante being led up to God.

Besides, the only thing that made me think about playing that game was its interesting, and really disturbing at times, art style. But that wouldn't really fly in Heaven... it would just not feel like Heaven.

Maybe if they made the sequel as a 2D adventure game...

Im sorry i have to comment on this have none of you realised it will be called dantes purgatory and then after that dantes paradisio they were a trilogy of books by Dante in the roman times and they are called the divine comedies because they were writeen in italian and not latin and italian was considered comical literature plus the game designers made the dantes inferno and now they are wanting to make the triology of the books and even said the purgatory will be next not paradise

From reading your spoiler i'm going to suggest this :

You mentioned what sounded like dante pretty much destroying hell, perhaps that means hell quite literally would start coming onto earth?
This is all just guesswork as I have never played the game.

I do not care if they come back to this series because the first game was fun to play. They are going to make another one no matter how many times literary geeks complain about it.

It would be nice to see that Dante has to go after Satan once again because he is the one that let the mischievous bastard into heaven in the first place. Then end it with Dante sending snakeboy into the pit and allowing him into heaven.

I am getting sick and tired of this mind set that because they are considered classics, they should remain untouched and left in a pure form. No, they should not. If they are left alone, they will become forgotten. Classics need to be taken off the wall, played with, updated, and changed every once in a while so people will find out about the older iteration.

Also, be consistent. If all that it takes to attract your ire is blatant copying, then you should give the same amount of grief to Pilgrim's Progress, which is the Protestant version of the Divine Comedy. It should not matter the age because it is structurally the same thing.

I'll say it again, if all you see in Dante's Inferno is the ironic punishments and revenge fantasies against people that wrong Dante in life, you are missing the point of the story. The poem is about a man who sinned against God and has to face those sins literally. Dante from the game and the book went on a pilgrimage because of said sins.

Seeing as they took some pretty big libertys with The Infernos basic story structure I'd say its all hinting at an invasion of Heaven by Hell.
Somehow all sparked into action by Dante, who'll having realized he's being played like a pawn by Satan will tear up the invasion force and fight alongside angels etc.

The story really has nowhere else to go if it wants to include combat as its primary gameplay mechanic. Its like EA have painted themselves into a corner in as far as what they can do in Purgatory and Heaven.
And this is coming from someone who enjoyed the game.

While i enjoyed the game somewhat. Ill agree that it pretty much destroyed the proper reputation for the poetry. Now a lot of retarded 12 year olds are gonna pick up the books expecting Tits and gore and be disapointed.

Besides, the 2nd book is about his ascension through Purgatory, which has SOME potential for a game ( its still people being punished for their sins, but they can earn their way to heaven/ paradise).

But then theyd HAVE to do a game for Paradiso. And i dont know how a game would work in heaven.

Idk what it would be about but people take games to seriously lol, it's just a game, who cares if it ruined a old story, it was a cool game and I would want them to make a bother one lol, I think they should remake the onimusha games for ps3, they are better than god of war III by a lot, but it's just like dante's inferno in a lot of ways lol
