I love the book. The trailer makes me very angry. They're just using a name people know as a flimsy veneer over a generic, ridiculously OTT action game set in Hell. Hasn't this ground been well-trodden already?

If they'd gone a more subtle route ("Subtle? What's that? Does it have giant fake-teeth monsters? Then begone!") and focused on a more psychological-fear-exploration motif, they might have ended up with a much more interesting concept. But I don't want to see one of my favourite books turned EXTREEEEEEEEEEME because someone couldn't make their IP original enough.

Also, that scythe and crucifix make me sad.

Thank God! I was worried that the greatest literature epics were never going to be abused and defamed by dirty profiteers with more respect for their wallets than the source material!

Wierd. All Dante does the the book is travel to hell under the protection of Virgil and make pointed political observations.
Static Shock went to hell?!

I think the game is going to suck, honestly. Did not enjoy God of War's sequels, and the first was "meh" to begin with. That's not to say I'm glad, though; I truly hope a game with potential as this will be great, but I just doubt it.

I will probably get it, Ive always wanted to play a bad ass shinigami (thats Reaper in English). I see it as a game based loosely around the premises of the book. And that doesnt really bug me.

All I can say for sure is that it won't stay true to the book, though that may be a good thing. That aside I do not know if it will be a God of War clone or some sort of RPG or attempt at an epic story.
I'm betting that it will most likely be a God of War clone. EA has a knack for dishing out easy to make, cookie-cutter games... not in depth RPGs for the most part. But maybe EA Redwood will prove me wrong.

I wouldn't expect it to stay true to the book... if it did, there would be no gameplay... Aside from the title possibly pissing people off, I like the idea of creating a living world from Dante's Inferno.
EA has suprised me before, things like dead space and mirrors eage were fairly origional, though I do still agree that it could be a rip off however I not sure it will be a God of War rip off, it just reminds me of Devil may Cry to much.

That aside I don't really think a 'living' world based on Dante's Inferno could really be done, it is after all set in hell.
Like I said.. I loved Dead Space... never was really interested much in Mirror's Edge but it was at least somewhat original for an EA title.

I think we'd be lucky to see Devil May Cry-quality out of this game.. given EA's track record of cookie cutter action games.

But by a "living world" I essentially meant it would be pretty cool to see some artwork based on The Divine Comedy within the game... that is unless they just completely change it and create Dante's Inferno in their own way without using the book as a reference... which would simply make matters worse.

Well, it had to happen eventually, it's too legendary to go without having a game made of it.

I just wish that the circumstances were anything but this. It should be a puzzle / combat avoidance game, like Space Quest or King's Quest except modern, not a GoW clone.

And CERTAINLY not done by EA.

But they have yet to incorporate having explosive diarrhea into these real life games.... I won't play them until I see that DLC.

Oh well my mistake, but I am afraid thats what they have done, I mean look at those pink cerberus like creatuers in the trailer. I'm sure they will keep the nine circles of hell, they do make a point of it in the trailer, though I think they might end up unrecognizable.

Well, come to think of it I never got the chance to read the Divine Comedy thoroughly anyway... So I guess I wouldn't recognize if it was from the book or not.

I hope it dies in the deep fiery abysses of Hell, then freezes over as Lucifer's eternal *****.

That's how strongly I distrust this game.

My thoughts.

The game as it is:

*facepalm*

The Game as I imagine it:

The Archangel Gabriel storms hell and kicks ass everywhere to make the passing safe for Dante and Virgil. Angelic asskicking ensues. Yays.

Not seen any gameplay, but to me, it got a feeling like Legacy of Kain meets God of War meets Diablo.

But until i see gameplay, i cant really comment.

Initial reaction: Yaaaay! EA is moving on to raping works of art! Now they can devalue and humiliate our cultural heritage in ever new and innovative ways. What's next? Crime and Punishment FPS? Decameron RPG?

Second reaction: The people who did Dead Space are doing this? Yaaaay! More poorly crafted attempts at horror and yet more unfinished levels culminating in a bad cliche ending!

Third reaction: Why do those people insist on including deformed babies in their game? Do they have some sort of fetus fetish?

As you can see, I'm not too thrilled about the game...

There was a fetus in that trailer? I honestly didn't notice.

I believe that one of the enemies announced will be some kind of deformed baby. Which brings me back to the Tentacle Abortions of Dead Space. Babies are a line I don't like crossed in games or movies, so that's a big minus point from me.

It feels AWESOME! They can't fight back ;)
