im considering buying dantes inferno but im hesitant because of all the mediocre reviews its been getting. it seems that all of the reviews are complaining about it being a god of war clone and that isnt a problem for me. what i want from this thread is to hear from the people who are ACTUALLY PLAYING IT, not people who played the demo or are basing their opinions off of reviews.

I have been playing it a bit, and I really like the game. Never had the opportunity to play God of War, although I have always wanted to, so this game filled a very anxiously waited niche in my gaming shelf. I do get sore fingers for continuously jabbing combos (simple as they are) with the controller, so thus far I have played no more than half an hour at a time.

The game is very pretty, playes very well and have some awesome looking monsters. I especially liked it when I got to ride one of the big hellspawn. Nothing like a fire-breathing, leg stomping and claw swinging monster for a horse :)

Rent it first and see if you like it.

Don't put too much consideration in the reviews. Bayonetta got a lot of stellar reviews, I bought it and ended up returning the game a week later out of disappointment.

I wouldn't trust reviews that complain about it being a clone too much. Rent it and see if it's to your liking.

Don't always trust reviews. Reviews painted Halo 3 and Gears of War to be bits of gold but I found Halo to be decent at best and feel Gears of War is the single-most overrated game of all time. I played Dante's Inferno and enjoyed it personally.

These guys are right. Generally, NEVER listen to reviews. See what they have to say and take them with a pinch of salt at best, but the only opinion I trust is my own.

The game itself is very well done (if a little uninspired) but what really grinds my gears is that they used The Divine Comedy for the story. Might as well reanimate Dante himself and slap him across the face.

Though their interpretations of the circles of hell are pretty sweet.

I'm really enjoying Dante's Inferno. Despite the gameplay being derivative, I give the game credit for its high aesthetic value. A lot of people whine about the title being such an affront to the original source (something I find humorous), which I don't think is fair because it's not a straight up word for word retelling of the poem. Visceral tells an original story set within "universe" of Dante Alighieri, recreating his vision of Hell. As you play through the game, you'll meet up with Virgil who quotes from the poem in order to describe your current location.

I give Visceral a lot of credit with pulling no punches in their graphic depiction of Hell and amazed they could get away with it.

I can answer this for you: Did you enjoy God of War 1 or 2? If so, how much?

It is a GoW clone, however in my opinion, it was executed much more poorly than God of War.
It's up to you, though. I had some fun while playing it.

I reviewed it, and I thought it was actually a fairly enjoyably game. The replayability was my biggest gripe, but that will change when they release the DLC in April.

Otherwise, I found the game very enjoyable.

I'm playing it at the moment and i'm enjoying the hell out of it despite all the complaints i keep hearing. It's a good game whilst applying some GoW style elements but people who base their opinions just on that fact are completely biased and dismissive.

Pretty much this; despite the crap it gets from some people here, I liked the game because I have never tried God of War. So after BioShock, I'm going to give it a try.
Indeed. Most of the griping about the game isn't about the game itself, but that's it's "too much like God of War," as if being like God of War was some horrible thing that no other game has done.

Yeah, it was very similar, and so I docked it some points for gameplay originality, but, for me, as long as the story and characters are different, I'm good.

Yeah definitely a GOW clone but in my opinion a good one. I was skeptical about it at first as well but I got hooked on the story and am enjoying their rendition of hell.

I'm a good portion of the way through the game and I'm enjoying it immensely. Hell serves a great setting, with each circle aesthetically different and interesting. However, because I don't play this type of game too often, I find it a little difficult, so get ready for a little frustration unless you play it on easy. Overall a very good game. If the worst thing you can say about it is that It's a lot like another really good game, is that really a complaint?

Dante's Inferno is not for everyone, but it's definitely worth at least a rental. I played it, and I didn't think it was as bad as all the reviews are saying it is.
