I am on board for this no matter what, but if they can manage to capture all of the strengths of both Dark Souls 1 and 2 in a bottle, then this could be amazing.

I want a spiritual sequel.

Why can't we have a game set in antiquity, mixing viking/ Norse, Greeco-roman, Egyptian, Sumerian, Babylonian art styles, weapons, armor and architecture? That would be so damn cool. Exploring pyramids, dilapidated bath houses, the sewers underneath, gladiatorial arenas, animal kennels, deserts, oases, ancient tombs, canyon villages, giant animal bones, sunken cities, frozen mountains with fortresses, ice lakes, abandoned towns.

I always thought it was a terrible idea to go back to Lordran for DSII. New story please.

Anyway, my dream.

So the first dark souls was all about a dying world and the second dark souls was all about that world being reborn into a new cycle of life...What theme is the third going to cover? The world coming to terms with puberty?

Exclusive leaks with watermarks on them. Really?

What does the "leak" even stand for on this? That this is either complete bs or that they have a deal on this? I don't honestly see the point. Coming straight out without this "leak" hip talk serves to promote the game better. They already did this "leak" stunt with Bloodborne when it was known as Project Beast.

But c'mon. Exclusive leaks with watermarks? Not only did you gain this information before it was ment to be released, but you also watermarked it? Not that I'm against it, but you're really breaking my believe of this being a leak.

Well, if the first game was resolving ancient history so to speak, while the second game delved into the nature of the curse and solidified the whole "cycle" thing... I guess one logical way to progress is to further address breaking the curse. Scholar of the First Sin largely hinted at that, I suppose.

Still hyped.

LOOK AT THAT GODDAMN BERSERK MOON

That is literally the most Berserk thing I've ever seen...
Don't say that... please don't say that. You know what'll happen if you say that, don't you?!

WE'LL SPEND THE ENTIRE GAME ON A BOAT RIDE THAT WILL NEVER END!
BUT IT'LL BE HYPE THO

I PROMISE.

I'm seriously just waiting to see who breaks first between Capcom with Dragon's Dogma and Miyazaki and just makes Berserk: The Game...

And then I will cry... from multiple body parts.

I'm kind've fatigued of the series to be honest. Loved Bloodborne, but I think it might be my last souls like game. The images look cool but I refuse to watch a video by the Know. Them and Funhaus are literally the most obnoxious video game news web series on the internet and every time I see them I die a little inside to see what Roosterteeth has been reduced to. It's like X-play but twice as annoying and artificial, which is some kind of milestone in awful to be honest. I'll be taking a closer look when the game is officially announced at E3 instead of giving these jackasses clicks and views.

The only reason why there's so many central European inspired stuff in DS is because Miyazaki read stories present in them but he didn't quite grasp English so it warped his perception of it and filled in the blanks himself - that's why places like Anor Londo and the armour characters wear look so damn good.

The same can't be said for a Greek or Viking style setting because Miyazaki doesn't have that unique view of them like he does with central Europe. And, let's face it, probably no Japanese developer does.

So at the very least From isnt going to try and churn out an overly expansive game like Dark Souls 2 is. I hope it means more consistent area transitions, and more complex zones.

As for the PC version itll probably be like Dark Souls 2 with an initial launch on consoles and a PC launch about half a year later.

We were told about the rumors of Bloodborne getting a PC port and look where that went ... nowhere!
Its a mystery to me how that rumor managed to gain any traction in the first place.

I want more things like Bloodborne actually. Not only would spiritual successors to that alone be nice, but simply just taking the DS style of gameplay and transplanting it to new settings, different spins, doing whatever to it to change it up, would be a much more welcome news story. I can understand the reasoning behind continuing the more RPG heavy series, but I would still prefer to see a bit more branching out on it, as Bloodborne did show it can translate very well into other forms. And maybe it's because I fell in love with Demon's Souls and know I'll most likely never see a return to that, I'd at least like to go further down the rabbit hole rather than just sitting in the same area.

I'd be just as happy if the DSII team took on that role, because I personally loved DSII and see them as a competent team, and it would give me my innovation while the DS fans get the sequel they always wanted.

So...apparently I'm the only person who actually enjoys these guys? Yeah, the blurry guy's kind of annoying, but I like the other three. I think they're funny.
I'm a massive fan of Rooster Teeth and Achievement Hunter, but only their unscripted stuff like the podcasts and let's plays. Their news platform and all of their shorts and other scripted stuff I find uninteresting at best.

On topic, I'm excited for any kind of souls release, but I'd rather have a spiritual succesor than a direct sequel. Especially given how well dark souls 1 did the storytelling, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense having a new story tacked onto the end.

Oh yeah, that whole curse permeating the very existence of the series. How could I forget? That would be a graceful way of tying up the series. Just complete the trilogy of Dark Souls while moving on to spiritual successors. I do worry that the heavy atmosphere of doom and depression may be compromised for a more positive narrative. The second game had a serene melancholy, so it borderline counts at least.

I wonder if Dark Souls 2 is still canon, my guess is this will cap the dark sign plot, finally ridding the world of the undead with the final battle against a complete Manus.
If this is true, AND Miyazaki is involved, he'll probably find a way to fix it.

An idea of a final battle with Manus behind the whole thing is a body-tingling idea there....

I'd rather hunt down the last of the lords and exterminate their entire arrogant race. Let die the age of fire! Oh wait, the whole thing is a dumb cycle thanks to Dks2. Urgh. This is why I hoped Dks didn't have a sequel. Miyazaki can create fantastic, unique worlds with deep and fascinating lore, it just seems limiting to keep revisiting this universe. Demons Souls can stand on it's own, ditto Dark Souls and Bloodborne, Dark Souls 2, enjoyable though it was in some aspects (I pvp'ed a TON) was neither an interesting continuation nor did it really add anything of value to the canon. Hell, by making the whole thing a cycle they actually made dks1's endings retroactively worse. Dks3 is supposedly going to be directed by Miyazaki, which means I am still very excited about it and will absolutely buy and devour every bit of it, I just wish it was another original setting.

I'd have to say that, in regards to contributing to the canon, dark souls 2 adds a good bit. We see the rise of different kingdoms, with Vendrick actually showing that a just ruler can come compared to Gwynn and the so-called gods. Alongside that, scholar of the first sin added a good bit of additional lore, with it even offering another ending where you refuse the throne.

Gotta say I'm cautiously excited. Although I fucking love the soulsborne series, I feel like it lost its magic after Dark souls for me. I seriously don't want Dark Souls 3 if it's going to be another lackluster rushed product like the second game was (and to an extent Bloodborne).

Uh...

I don't think there's been a single Miyazaki game that wasn't rushed or left unfinished. Actually I'd argue Bloodborne is, or at least feels pretty complete when compared to the others, especially DaS.

At least Dark Souls 2 was more than 60% completed on its release unlike its predecessor... but I don't think that was the problem with the game, it was the finished parts that were leaving something to be desired.
