Dark Souls 3 Ships Three Million Copies, Series Surpasses 13 Million

//cdn.themis-media.com/media/global/images/library/deriv/1320/1320924.jpgBandai Namco has announced that Dark Souls 3 has shipped over three million copies, and the Dark Souls series has shipped over 13 million.

Just in case you weren't aware that Dark Souls 3 was kind of a big deal, Bandai Namco has announced that it has shipped over three million copies of the popular RPG. That number includes 1.5 million copies in North America, one million in Europe, and 500,000 in Japan.

The Dark Souls series has been successful for its entire existence, and has now shipped 13 million copies. That doesn't even include its close cousins Demon's Souls and Bloodborne.

From Software has said that they are done with the series, at least for now, and are currently working on a new IP. They've also not expressed much interest in remaking Demon's Souls. That said, it wouldn't be a huge surprise to see Bandai Namco try to persuade them to bring the series back, or even offer to have another studio pick it up and run with it. I'm not sure that From Software would be interested in that, but you never know what might happen.

It's honestly refreshing when something as complex and intelligent as Dark Soul's gets the respect it deserves. Too many great stories fly under the radar. Dark Soul's deserves every single copy sold, and more. Honestly, Dark Soul's was one of the most powerful gaming experiences in my life.

Oh, dear lord no. Fromsoft can't even make a truly great Darksoul's sequel. The last thing we need is yet another great title ruined by some cocksure developers whose ego's are matched only by their stupidity. I seriously hope they let sleeping dogs lie.

Screw new IP. I want a Lost Kingdoms 3. Or Chromehounds 2.

I'm kind of surprised that Japan has the lowest selling point. I mean, I know the nation is smaller than the U.S. and Europe, but still. Only 500,000 there? Seems kind of low.

As much as I would like to do another Souls game, I am perfectly fine if they truly decide to stop here and move on to something new. From Soft is now on my radar, and I will keep an eye on anything they decide to release.

+1 on that. Especially since they had the early release treatment to fit in better with their school vacation periods.

That said, it seems that game sales are typically quite low in Japan anyway;

Where only some very prestigious titles break the several-hundred-thousand bracket anyway at these intervals.

Chromehounds had a lot of issues but by god it was the one of the best Mecha games I've ever played.

500,000 is crazy high for Japan. The US is a very big place. Plus selling a million copies in the US is a big deal, so for Japan a country far less than half our size to sell half a mill is pretty big. For about ever 3 people who bought it in the US, 1 person in Japan bought it, give or take.
