So, I made my way up through the Undead Parish and defeated the Channeler there. Cleared out the whole building and, as I made my way up to talk to the knight in the cell, I got invaded.

I mean, this time, it was quite obvious just how much of a level and experience difference there was between myself and this guy. It pissed me off just seeing him in my world, knowing that he was a griefer.

He allowed me to finish my dialogue, luckily, and I almost managed to get away to heal, but he got a spell off on me and killed me.

On the way back up, I died again to some utter bullshit with one of those undead soldiers with the rapier and small-shield. So... There went ten humanity and over 5000 souls that I hadn't been able to spend yet...

Considering disabling online after that, because that was really just bullshit...
Heh, assuming you're on the PS3, maybe you could sign out of PSN whenever you get invaded? I started doing that when invasions started getting annoying.

Other than invasions from dicks, I actually like playing online; I love reading misleading messages from other people and watching their deaths too.

i have a question, what is the benefit of being human rather than hollow?
Being human allows you to talk to some npcs, so far as I can tell. It also allows kindling of bonfires and the ability to host co-op, and be invaded by others for PvP.
It also allows you to invade others' worlds.

Edit: and as far as I know it has no effect on npcs.
so for someone who has no gold membership theres little point?

Become human, use that elevator next to the stairs to come up from the shrine. Next to the boss door (if you talked to him earlier) is the summon sign for the NPC Knight Solaire. With him on your side the gargoyles are push overs.
If you haven't talked to him, he is on the other end of the bridge with the dragon. Best to go from the Taurus boss area to him to not get roasted by an angry lizard.

if you can simply turn human and summon knight sloitar (i think thats his name) and as long as he doesnt durp and fall off the church he should tank them enough for you to kill em

EDIT: well you'll be able to summon him as long as you talked to him before the dragon on the brige

Haha, I was hoping to be able to fight them without help...

Oh well, a few more attempts and then I'll cave.

Don't want to sound like I am bragging, but I beat them by myself using a non-upgraded bandit knife. It took me alot of attempts, but it was good fun.

Always remember that you can block 100% of their physical damage, and that cutting off the first ones tail removes a very powerful attack. Also, it is a good time to put that Gold Pine Resin to use.

My only issue was when the 2nd came around and spammed his fire breath. His friend then sees how much fun he is having and joins in too.
Besides, you get a Sunlight Medal for getting help which is great for when you want to join the Warriors of Sunlight. 10 medals and you get a fairly powerful miracle.

This thread makes me want to beat the game at level 1.

The only problem is the unlimited souls glitch was removed, meaning i'd actually have to grind if I wanted a max pyro glove and gear. Which would be boring, I know since I have done it before. 5 hours of grind for the glove and all spells alone.

PS: Anyone know how well the patch did on fixing coop/joining other peoples games? I wouldn't mind going back and helping others with the coop if they needed it.

Don't worry, monsters will randomly drop humanity (and I believe they drop more humanity if you have less). You can grind rats for it if you have the patience.

This game is about death and loss. I'm not saying it doesn't suck when you die, but trust me that it's going to happen... a lot. You kind of just have to live with that fact :p

Ended up beating them handily on my first try today. They dropped the helm too. Managed to get the Drake Sword from shooting the Bridge Wyvern's tail enough too.

So, I ended up heading over to fight the Capra Demon, as I've seen the Depths is the next place for me to go. He basically bent me over immediately as I stepped through the white light. Pretty sure he got his first hit off before I even got control of my character back. Gonna be attempting that for quite some time now.

I?m on my third character now. However, I can?t bring myself to progress past the Upper Undead Burg. I get to the white fog in the tower at the end, and just can?t build up the courage to continue. I?ve been grinding the same few mobs forever.

My problem is that I?m afraid of losing all that I?ve obtained. I hate dying in games, and that makes this game ridiculously difficult for me. It took me so long the first time just to get to the tower as it was.

I also run into the problem of needing to discover everything in an area before moving on. That includes killing every enemy. Including the optional sub-bosses (black knight, dude with dragon-tooth hammer)

I love this game and the concept behind it, but can?t seem to bring myself to play any further.

So, I ask you all, do you have any tips for me on how to conquer this and continue?
well first of all im going to say that the first few hours of the game are probably the hardest. once you get the drake sword things get much easier for a while and by the time the drake sword is no longer useful, you should be at the point where you are upgrading your gear. the threat of losing souls and humanity never goes away though. there was one night when i was playing and i had lost the souls i got from beating 2 bosses and 3 mini-bosses, and then got cursed. personally i never found humanity that useful. by the end of the game i had about 80 humanity.

something to keep in mind, you will be coming back to the undead burgh. enemies like the black night should not be fought yet, he will straight up destroy you and its really not worth the trouble, to be honest. from your description it sounds like youre in the area right before the taurus demon. for that i would suggest grinding until level 10, learning his moves and when it is safe to roll past him, and use plunging attacks

^You should learn to take on Black Knight's ASAP because they just keep popping up. They are generally not that difficult, but it takes a long time at level 1 with a low damage weapon to kill them.

Remember, you can use humanity to heal yourself. I found that the best use for it. It's value outside of player interaction is pretty low.

As for Capra demon, make sure you unlock the shortcut to Firelink Shrine otherwise its going to be a pain to keep going to him. It is a hard boss fight because of the dogs. Notice the stairs in the left corner? Yep.

If you find Humanity on the floor dont use it, just take it and when later on only use it if you want to kindle a bonfire, that way you wont loose it when you die.

Also, some bosses are not suposed to be killed right away since you will run across them again later on. The game may look linear to you but soon it will start to open up and become a free roam map with the help of shortcuts.

PS: Never be afraid to die, it may look like you are stuck and that if you die you will loose all those precious souls, well... the souls arent precious at all, what trully matters is that you beat the bosses and use the bonfires as checkpoints, those are the signs of progress in the game, not the level of your character. Once you kill that boss you will find a shortcut that will make everything so much easier.

EDIT: Only realised now that you already killed the boss. Well... good for you, the Capra Demon is an asshole but you will kill him eventually

He is a pushover if you can kill those dogs. If you don't kill those dogs, you will not defeat him.

What threw me off was getting hit before I could even move. That white fog is just annoying sometimes.

I'm sure an attempt tomorrow will prove successful, now that I have a better idea of the layout of the boss-room.

If you're afraid of dying in a freaking game where you need to die... then why are you playing it in the first place?

Seriously though, isn't that the heart and soul of the game?, trial and error?, I'd certainly love to play it if it were available for the PC.

That's what I love about the game. It's incredible in that aspect. I'm working at it more now, about ready to take on the Taurus demon now. But still nervous as all hell.
I have one word that will help you gain the courage to actually fight the Taurus Demon:

Firebomb.

Firebombs will ruin his day like you don't even know. You can find some in Firelink Shrine on the ground. Hell, you can even find Black Firebombs on the way TO him, which will ruin his day even more.

Edit: *too lazy to go through all the posts* So I didn't realize you were at the Capra Demon when I wrote this.

Capra Demon himself is a giant pushover, as others have said. The only thing that actually make that battle difficult, are the dogs he has with him. Your first priority should be the removal of those dogs immediately. Dodge the Capra since he doesn't move quickly and at the first opportunity, kill the dogs(since you say you've got the Drake Sword, that should down them in 1 shot). Or if you feel like being cheap, you can run up the stairs on the left and run onto the doorway right next to it. Except for very, VERY rare times, Capra will not follow you up there, but instead attempt to jump at you from the stairs. If you've got your shield up then you've got nothing to worry about, because only the dogs can follow you up there. And with Capra temporarily out of the picture, you can focus on whatever opening the dogs give you and not worry about dodging that oversized goat.

Dying in any game ever signifies failure. I've been conditioned and programmed over the years that death in a game is a bad thing, not something necessary. This fact makes it quite difficult to progress for me, as I avoid death at all costs in every single game I play.

I picked up the game for the difficulty it was praised for. I wanted a challenge. I didn't realize that I wouldn't be able to progress very far with the way I go about playing games.

But, if you read further into the thread, you'd see that I've progressed much more. I've come to terms with the fact that I will die. I've learned to let go of humanity and souls if the need arises. I've had to change the way I play video games for this game. I'm viewing death as a more necessary thing now, rather than something to completely avoid.

For those who have enjoyed reading about my efforts to press onward in this game, I have just beaten the Capra Demon and am now slowly making my way down into the Depths. No idea what to expect, as I've not read any guide or anything on the area. Here goes nothing.
