(The TLDR was rather lazily typed I apologize in advance I am tired and may finish my thoughts on this topic at a later date. Thank you for reading and please give your opinion on the matter!)

First in Demons Souls, and now in Dark Souls; Item Duplication, Soul Duplication, and exclusive for Dark Souls the Bottomless Box Glitch(Which allows players to trade items from one character to a freshly made character)

The premise behind this series was that it was difficult, required time and practice in order to do well, and incorporated online play to not only give players a easier way to overcome the outstanding difficulty, but also make it harder in the same way by having other players come in to challenge them in midst of an already challenging game.

Instead of actually playing the game players are now using the bottomless box glitch to "Mule" 99 of (Literally) every item from another player to their low level characters to pretty much turn this game into as one player said "Dark Souls:prepare To Have Your Hand Held Edition". Which means everything that had originally made this game popular has now gone completely out the window.

To top it all off players are putting up petitions left and right to have these game shattering glitches remain in the game. Now a lot of people are claiming that this makes the game better because it eliminates all of the unenjoyable elements from the game; and leaves you with instant reward, an easy platinum/100% Achievement, and allows players to do nothing but "enjoy" the game. When I first purchased Demons Souls and Dark Souls the first 20 hours were horrifically difficult and the sense of accomplishment I gained from completing both of these games completely outdoes the sense of reward and enjoyment you get from simply destroying the game in one sitting with unintended glitches, and negatively affecting players who intend on playing fairly.

Ways it affects other players negitively?
(Well Im not gonna make this any longer of a post than it needs to be so lets keep this short)

1.People who intend on playing fairly in PvE get to have their hands held by players who use this glitch eliminating any sort of satisfaction that would be gained by playing normally.

2.Players have been enjoying a high amount of griefing due to these glitches one popular one being Soul Level 1 characters that are unkillable due to the usage of the bottomless box glitch

A post from this(http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/606312-dark-souls/63999438?page=1) website sparked my desire to come out and post about this matter. I have been playing Demons Souls and Dark Souls for an approximate 500+ total; and only until now have I decided to use these glitches myself because "Hey, why not?" I have the max amount of characters you can possibly create all of which are leveled and for the most part fully built and upgraded. It took me less than an hour to use the soul duplication glitch and finish every single one of my characters. In turn I ended up ruining the aspects I loved about this game in a matter of hours. =(

At this point since nothing can be done about already exsisting characters. No amount of patching can save the game from the glitches that have already taken place. The player base of these games have spit in the face of this game, and I can only pray that there is yet another Souls game that doesnt include these glitches.

TL;DR

Due to gameshattering glitches in Dark Souls and Demons Souls players have been able to cruise control through these games in a matter of only 2-5 hours, and even though players can choose to not interact with the cheating players part of what makes this game great is the multiplayer aspects that not only giving players an easy way out in an already difficult game but allowing other players to further increase the difficulty through the same aspect. Which makes the game less enjoyable for people trying to play the game fairly. People who use the glitches can also play the game fairly but morally tears down everything that makes this game outstanding. I ended up resorting to cheating because I felt left out and after finishing a character that was meant to be a challenge (SL1 Darkwraith build) I learn soon after that everyone can have a character of the same caliber in roughly an hour of playing.(Compared to the 30 hours it took for a veteran player to accomplish)

This game is ruined by these glitches and those of you who disagree are the reason I decided to type up this long post. If you dont want a challenge in a game go play Cars 2 or Megamind.

A couple of cheaters completely ruined the whole game?
Nah.
Your absolutely right! Dark Souls is still an amazing game! the title refers to the game being ruined for myself. This is something I should of specified earlier and I apologize!

The save files are locally stored...if you thought anything was sacred at any point, you were merely fooling yourself.

My intent wasn't to complain Rather I was just expressing my opinion on a matter that I feel strongly about and it ultimately buried these games for me...Also I did another forum search I don't believe there are any other topics addressing this issue

The only things that annoy me about Dark Souls is

A. People who are ridiculously high level/have high level gear coming and caving your face in (I like the pvp but not if I have no chance at all of beating the person who invades)

B. The Co op is stupidly annoying and needs changed to just be able to join your friends game.

So yeah I agree with you about the cheating, it seems very lame in this day and age. Especially on a game with an online leaderboard.

Another person complaining about Dark Souls, we have been having lot's of those lately.

People can play a game however they want, if they want to use glitches, let them. If people are enjoying the game more because of these glitches, let them have their fun, right? If you think they are missing out because they are using these glitches, jokes on them right?

If the are actually ruining the multiplayer, that's not cool, but what can you do, unless it's patched, people will keep doing it.
See this is the problem, in a way they are ruining multiplayer. Just earlier today I started a new character and I had three invasions over the day. All three of which had top teir armor and insane hit points. Now I was only around 15 when the first one showed up so he had to be within 10% of my level. Still he sported an endless supply of poison knives, loyds talismans, and he was in full Gwyn's armor. Now my little cleric could only do at best 150ish damage on a backstab or riposte and I had done 5 of them on that guy and he still didnt die (no I did not give him a chance to heal). The second invasion was very similar with a guy in full Crystal armor and the gravelords sword. I died in two hits, one taking all of my stamina away on a successful guard and the other took the 20ish % I had left. Then there was the one in blight town. I didnt even see the message that someone was invading but this guy in full Painting guardian armor came out of nowhere and we got into it. He was so aggressive and stupid that I kept getting parries on him but after 3 of them he was still alive. I ended up dying from the poison and the bugs in the bottom of blight town.

In each of those encounters if they had had gear you would actually have at low levels I wouldnt have a problem with it but the fact is these people go out of their way to twink characters. That includes giving themselves an unfair advantage with gear they cant get without high level characters giving it to them. I dont mind loosing a fight I mind getting into a fight thats so unbelievably stacked against me I can play near perfectly and still loose

If people want to just PVP they can go to the kiln at around level 120 and get in fights all day long but these people arent out for real PVP. They're predators going after people they know cant win against them

Fortunately the bottomless box glitch is supposed to be removed in the console versions in the near future. However there is a petition to keep it in but I will not be sharing that petition or signing it.

Now Im not going to say Dark souls is ruined but this glitch definately harms the experience

Now you can acquire any gear you want at any level you want but doing so requires skill and a full playthrough of the game at the desired level. I successfully made it through the entire game excluding Gwyn at level 1 and was rewarded with a character at the lowest possible level(I normally Invade players on this toon with darkwraith helm, Gold Hem Robe, Darkwraith gloves, Gold hem skirt, Dark hand, and Accended pyromancy flame. This looks awesome and I have yet to lose against anyone in the 1-50 level range) but the fact that people can achieve this effortlessly is something that really I cant say is any good at all for anybody

I usually just play the game in soul form.

Otherwise, if someone joins my game and I don't feel like dying, I just D/C. If the matchmaking wasn't atrocious, I would just kill the attacker...but it is in fact terrible, at least the last time I played. Along with horribly imbalanced skills and items like the ring that makes you invisible and that slow spell.

The thing is though I LIKE the pvp if I have a chance against them it can be good fun. I have fought many people in the forest area.

It's just these glitches and cheats that ruin the game really. I would be fine with it if it was single player but it isn't.

I don't understand at all how exploiting glitches to give oneself an unfair advantage is fun.

At all.

If others cheat in their own game they only ruin things for themselves, you just like to be fussy about it.

But if it does create an unbalanced PvP character it needs to be patched.

Um... I don't really know what the problem is here. If you don't want to use the Bottomless Box glitch, don't use it. If you don't want to be invaded, stay hollow. And it doesn't make the game SUPER EASY WAH because you have to have got that far in the game anyway to get the items.

I thought i heard it was patched? I guess not then.

On a different note, had my first pvp victories yesterday, felt pretty great. I played on my second character with smoughs hammer and parts of smoughs armor in olaccile township. All of it legit of course. Only lost once to a parry. People seem to panic after being hit with ~400 dmg.

Serious note, this is awful.

I mean, I'm not even a fan of these games, and I feel this is fucking awful.

Is this a glitch console exclusive or can it be done on the PC as well?
I guess it doesn't really matter anyway.

Goddamn, if I where a fan of this game, Id be some kind of pissed right now.

What if you want to pvp but you don't want it to be ridiculously unfair. What then?

I have no problem with people using cheats for themselves but when it dicks up everyone else's fun it's just lame and selfish.

Same with other offline/online hybrids. PSO was the one I remember vividly. If you wanted a legit game, you had to play it offline; there was no other way. But that was all GameShark rather than an in-game glitch. Is there really any difference? Take the glitch out and PC gamers can just hex edit the thing.

There's only one way to prevent cheating like that, and when you go that route it gets called DRM and you get all kinds of shitstorms over it.

Dark Souls would be around 100x more fun if multiplayer matchmaking were based on the total value (in souls) of a player's gear rather than his/her soul level. There's no good reason why a brand new player making his/her way through the Undead Burg for the very first time should have to suffer +5 lightning weapons and maxed pyromancy.

oooh, that would make me pick it up again for the pvp (which i mostly ignored after being one-shotted 5 times while i was learning the ropes of the game).

please, have some internets.
