So I played Dark Souls for a bit two months ago. Got past the prison and into the first area where I spent the rest of the game as I kept getting raped from all sides as soon as I left the fireplace. The enemy was not hard to defeat 1 on 1. Even 2 on 1 was manageable but when the fucking dragon swooped down I got killed. I respawned and to my horror so did all the enemies I spent half an hour trying to get passed. I repeated the process 5 times before I said fuck this shit and uninstalled the game. But now I want to play it again and this time I want to beat it. However I am pretty sure that the game is cheating and I would like some help to fight back. Anything really. Hints, tips, god weapons, unbeatable classes and builds . Whatever you have. I would really appreciate beating this cheating pile of crap. Thanks.

EDIT: So the area goes like this. I have just defeated the first boss. That's the one in the prison level, the one that you start above him and can attack him while in middair. After that I walk up a hill and a cutrscene plays with a giant eagle. Then I get taken to the area. There are two paths. One leads to some sort of graveyard with 6 skeletons while the other leads to the walls where there are dragons and such. I got past the first bit of that wall and made it to the bonfire. Then I made my way a little further where I got raped by the dragon. I hope this clears it out as to whereabouts I ragequit.

learn to dodge. Really, that'll help you for most of the game.

Heavy armor is nice and all as it does stop a lot of damage, and it's good if you're into slow weapons (like my first character) but mobility is certainly better as you get more skilled. Get behind your enemies, stab them in the back. win.

I haven't played a magic user or anything, but I don't recommend using anything but melee really.. everything else seems weak and finicky.

also, trying to piece together your placement in the game, you got out of the prison...and you're in firelink? and there's a dragon in firelink somewhere? are you going into the graveyard like every single new person ever and there are millions of threads all over the internet about going there and getting murdered and people telling them to not go there? because really, there's a way up the cliff behind you as you respawn at the fire in firelink...you turn around, go up there, and things are many times easier that way. The way you're supposed to go.

First off, it's not really cheating. Second, if you're really stuck and don't mind spoilers, I would actually recommend watching a Let's Play of the game at least far enough to get your feet wet. Epic Name Bro and NorthernLion both have great Let's Plays of the game and ENB's most recent one (Dark Days) in particular is full of tips in the first few segments.

Right, just wanted to say that every enemy in the game is beatable. The game is not cheating. And also, the reason that Dark Souls is hard because it's unforgiving to the point of frustration, not because the game is cheating.

Anyway, judging by your description, I think that you're in Undead Burg on the bridge after you beat the Taurus Demon. Walk slowly on the bridge and fight the two Hallows with shields. Then go down the stairs on the right and look for more stairs. Then, go down those stairs slowly. You should see a ladder and a prompt to kick the ladder down. Do so and light the bonfire. Then go back up the ladder, but don't take the bridge; stay underneath it and advance to the Undead Parish.

Hope I helped and hope you get past the dragon.

Pick Master Key as your gift, go down to the Valley of the Drakes, pick up the OP shield and sword. Rape for a bit. Get to the Dragon Sniping spot, shoot off the Dragons tail with bow and arrows. Getting a heal miracle helps a bit too. You can easily grind souls for a while as well to get your stats up a bit.

Following that, Always keep in mind your position in the game, if you can manage to kill an enemy without even touching it, do it. As a general rule for me, if a boss seems impossible to beat, I try three times, then look up the Wiki. Usually there's tricks to defeating them, or just strategy suggestions. Bows are useful, if you're decent in dexterity. Also, upgrade your weapon first, armor second. Pick a weapon who's move set and reach you feel comfortable and stick with it.

You can also nab a neat sword off that dragon, buy a bow and some large arrows and aim shots at its tail, about 5-15 Shots and the tail will fall off giving you this sword: http://darksouls.wikidot.com/drake-sword

You shouldn't be attacked by the dragon as long as your under the bridge.

Learn to use magic. That probably would have helped me, but I gave up on that game long ago. Pity too, I understand I got a good ways into it.

If you avoid crossing the bridge where the dragon makes its first appearance, not the one he perches over but the small one then he will never show up. This requires use of the master key and a terrifying run through hostile territory and probably is only feasible for people who already know their way around Lordran.

Theres also a lot to be said about suicide runs into areas with enemies that outclass you. In those cases you wanna make sure to spend all of your souls and humanity first. That way you can pick up some nifty gear. I cant remember specifically what my routine was because its been several months since I played last, but it basically revolved around the idea of picking up as many soul items as I needed to purchase more powerful sorcery spells.

The best tip for Dark souls is to slow down. Its not a game where you can rush through, its a game that you really want to slow down and take in your surroudings before you move on.

Second tip is, for first time players I highly recommend you get a bow from the undead merchant (in the undead burg) and use it to single pull stuff or take things out from a distance.

The third tip is, learn from what happens. Say you have a knight around a blind corner that came up and killed you from behind. Well take that into account the next time you go into that area. This time you know theres a knight in that corner so you can adjust to fight him directly or otherwise avoid him. Dark souls is a game where you have to learn from your mistakes to succeed

As far as the dragon on the bridge goes, run past him with light or no armor till you get about halfway where there are two side sections. The right one (as you face the wyvern) has some stairs down that lead back to a bonfire

Just for confirmation, are you talking about the Bridge where the Dragon comes and roasts you alive after beating the Taurus Demon? Because if you are, you can give up on getting to the other side of the bridge any time soon. Instead, about halfway across the bridge on the right side, there's a staircase that leads down.

Kick down the ladder first, it leads to the bonfire you are probably all too familiar with by now. Rest at it. Savour it. Then continue on your journey. Good luck, and prepare to die!

or you could just play as a sorcerer.
This guy has just suggested the single thing that will lead to you ripping Dark Souls a new one (that is if you practice and learn all it's tricks). Seriously play a intel sorceries class, buy loads of soul arrows, spam your way through the first area with soul arrows whilst leveling intel. Beat tower boss, free sorcerer in lower undead burg, buy better soul arrows and his ring which boosts magic damage, go to Darkroot forest and head for the basin, kill the hydra, summon Dusk, get her armour set, equip the helmet and buy one of her catalyst whilst leveling other stats and hey presto you're ready for the first half of the game. Then get to Anor Londo and get involved in the real fun. >:3

Yep, playing as a sorcerer almost feels like cheating if not for the fact that your character might as well be made of a plastic bag full of sand for all the damage he can take.

Buy a bow, get normal arrows, some weapon repair stuff, and grind your levels up. Strength and Dex is important for damage, Con is important for health.

After that, you will need to find a weapon you are comfortable with. I prefer great swords, but anything will work if you make it.

Other than that, have an idea of what you want to be. Find a build you like online and make it work for you.

If you´re melee: Go slow, keep your shield up, and learn from your mistakes. And for the love of God; take the time to learn how to Riposte and Backstab!

I spent about 9 hrs and three different characters before I found one that i liked. I could have looked up some builds online but it was really satisfying figuring it out on my own! There is however one item that will help you out to no end early in the game if your willing to spend some time and energy getting it, especially if you´re a melee build. It´s a bit tricky to acquire, but stick with it and it will be worth it! Once I found this Item I wore it for the rest of the game!

You will need the Master Key but people have allready recommended that you choose this as your starting gift so with a bit of luck you´ll already have it...

Also one of the methods for getting the item is a little cheap but you asked for it!

Make your way to the stairs where a dude will try to flatten you with a flaming barrel. Go up the stairs and you´ll be back into the Burg. On the other side of the room is a locked door that can be unlocked with the Master Key. At the bottom you the stairs on the other side there will be Havel the Rock. Havel is capable of killing you with one blow, even with your shield up so stay clear of his club! Dodge behind him and backstab! A lot! Seriously, this will take time and patience!

If your dodge/backstab isn´t up to par then there is an exploit. Lure him back up the stairs, across the room and back down the stairs that had the flaming barrel trap. You´ll notice that he´ll be reluctant to leave the Burg. At most he´ll go half way down the stairs before turning around and going back inside. This will make it easier to control and predict his actions. It will still take forever to kill him but it will be a lot easier. Just remember: he can still reduce you to a bloody smear with a single blow so stay focused!

Its a bit cheap but the reward will be Havel´s Ring which will bump up your Equip Load by something like 40 pts (if memory serves/unless patched). I think the best armor this early in the game is the Chainmail available from the undead merchant. With Havel´s Ring you´ll be able to wear the full set and move as if you were wearing nothing at all!

Stay strong brother! And prepare to die...

EDIT: Do you guys see the weird glyphs in my post or am I having a stroke?
EDIT 2: They are only in the spoiler box for some reason.... Is that japanese?

are you talking about that bridge section after the first boss?

also, play a pyromancer, learn to dodge (as dodge-rolling is super duper awesome, and very important for survival).
Also, most basic enemies, you can parry their attacks with a non-tower shield, which can be followed up by a riposte, and is nearly a 1 hit kill for all of those early enemies.

For the love of god, be patient, use a bow, a crossbow, throwing knives, anything to only aggro 1 or 2 guys at a time. Groups of guys Can and Will FUCK YOU UP before you play the game enough to know those specific guys very well (because as it turns out, those early enemies are slow, dont hurt much when you get some good armor, and are far from durable. Later enemies aren't much worse for the most part, you just need to learn their moves)
