Dark Souls on PC makes me want to throw up

Hi guys,

I bought Dark Souls PTD edition today for the PC. I've played it for about twenty minutes and it makes me sick to the core I wasted my hard earned cash on this.

Now I'm sure the game is fantastic, and I'm very interested in continuing, BUT...

The game handles like ass. This is the problem with crappy PC ports. I don't mind a few console button indicators here and there because I can learn to work around them, but the mouse controls... Oh those mouse controls.

They make me want to puke my guts up every time I turn around. It's a painful experience trying to fight enemies purely because of the twitchiness with which the camera turns. It's spazzy, incredibly oversensitive and horrible to use.

Am I in the minority when it comes to this issue? I spent quite a lot of money on this game and I've been very interested in this series since the first installment, and I'm wondering if there is a fix for this so I can continue playing without getting a headache every time I try... Am I going to need to shell out for a 360 controller to use with my PC? :\

Dude it's a rushed port released by a company who had no idea what they were doing. Have you tried the unofficial patch which solves a shitload of issues?

I myself happened to own a 360 controller already before i bought the game, but as Dexter mentioned fans fixed the main problems already. From resolutionfixes, mouse and keyboardfixes even to texture replacement and FPS-unlock (I wouldn't recommend that last one though as it can lead to problems like you falling off ladders to your death thanks to the game not being intended for such high framerates)

At least the Steam store outright warns you that it is recommended to play it with a gamepad.

Well you can fiddle the controls to your preference but even then its clunky and this game required good timing, not messing with controls.

Get a PS3 controler by the way, i find it works better than my XBOX controler for this game, feels nicer

If the game makes you physically ill then don't play it. Sell it on eBay for $45 and buy Bastion for $20 and spend the $25 on dinner. Go out to the pub. Use the patches as suggested and play a game you enjoy. Bastion is a game you will enjoy.

Or get off it and buy a gamepad for your PC. There are more than a handful of games that are objectively better suited to gamepad controls - notably any melee-based third person action game, of which there are several. It's a relatively small investment that will improve your experience with a number of titles, Dark Souls perhaps most of all. So stop being whatever it is you are that prevents you from doing this and do it.

Same reason I raged so hard at Skyrim when it first came out. Mouse control was shit, and whole thing went to hell when I opened menus.

Looked up some fixes online, but ultimately couldn't be bothered, think I played probably 10 minutes tops.

What's wrong with using a controller for PC? The 360 pad is fantastic.

The game is nigh-on impossible to play with a mouse and keyboard but great with a controller and the resolution fix (which takes literally a minute to install).

Forget the mouse, either play keyboard only, or get a joypad, everything else is just a pain.
And yes it is a crappy console port for many different reasons, but that's no secret.

Yeah, go get some fixes.
Be warned that even then, it controls like dick with K+M. Basically every control choice was designed around having a controller, so if you can stand the K+M controls, props to you.

Skyrim (and its predecessors) were made to be modded. (That's why you should get the PC version, if you can.) There is also a mod to fix the menu. And there is a mod to fix pretty much everything else. You can fine-tune the game to your own preferences.

That still is no excuse for Bethesda to include a crappy console menu, but at least it can be fixed.

First off, it wasnt a rushed port, they stated they werent bothering with too much adaptation from xbox/ps3 - pc version they were mapping basic controls and thats about it

not trying to be a smartass but i was stubborn and played the bame fully through twice (before my controller arrived razor onza wired btw) the controls arent too annoying they do work if you customise it but as people have said theyve already fixed the issues via mods,

the next game which isnt going to be dark souls 2 from what im aware
SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER
(being the shadow lord or having to kill the shadow lord in the next one if thats what its about)

theyve stated their going to make it for all 3 consoles and this time itll be a proper port, and without the resolution lock and hopefully more PPI as long as the sales from DS were promising, considering they sold a crap ton and theres so many people pirating the game
theyd be dumb not to appeal to the that market as well

i think the pc versions great since i had the xbox version i had to pay for gold to play online to make it real fun, whereas pc no problem

sorry for the long post have fun folks

So what about people playing Skyrim on PC with a controller?

The game was never designed for a PC port in mind, it got it because PC gamers who wanted the game begged for it, and the developers gave in. As a PC gamer you're suppose to come ready for any technicality, with DS it needs a controller to be played effectively, and if you want smooth controls then get one.

Anyways, just like FPS and RTS handle better on k/m, action h/s games like these handle better on a controller, so get one. And stop complaining.

Bad controls? You want to hear about bad controls? I beat RE4 twice for PC...without a gamepad.

That's nowhere as worse as this

OP,just get a gamepad,it'll fix all your problems in an instant
