Agree. I really hope they don't shit on one of the best series of books I've ever read.
As much as I feel that this is destined to be a big screw up, these things don't really retroactively fuck the properties they're based on, do they? I mean, the books will stay the same books (provided King doesn't pull any more George Lucas moments and go back to edit them, adding shit and changing shit like he did with the first book recently). It's really our choice if we choose to let the new movies/show factor in to our view of the originals, isn't it?

Well Stephen King usually gets directly involved when ever one of his works gets transferred to the big screen, so there's a good chance that won't happen.

As for me, I only made it 3/4 of the way through the first book. I've always meant to go back and finish it. As for the other books, I've only been able to find books 2 & 3 (and 1 obviously), I can't seem to find the rest.
Have you ever been to a Barnes & Noble, or on Amazon?

Um... no, I haven't. It never occurred to me to try online.

It's a wise move, that's were I got my copies of 5-7.

Also to all those Dark Tower fans, last I heard King is working on an eighth book that takes place between the fourth and fifth, it's called "The Wind Through the Keyhole".

The appalling fact that RON HOWARD is directing seems to have eluded everyone here. Good on you for being optimists.

Just a few highlights from the man's back catalogue:

Da Vinci Code
Frost/Nixon
Cinderella Man
A Beautiful Mind
The Grinch
EdTV
Apollo 13
Backdraft
Willow

Now I dare say there's probably some films in there that one might begrudgingly call 'OK.' But from a purely tonal, generic and thematic point of view, who the hell looked at that list and thought, 'Perfect for Dark Tower'!?

I can't see this being anything but a failure. The books border on unfilmable anyway. Part of their charm lies in being a King metaseries, and how is that going to work on screen? I also have very good reason to believe that a lot of King's dialogue in the series, whilst perfect in the literary world, would be virtually unspeakable for an actor. And if you have to change the dialogue you're losing a lot of the original charm of the series.

Couldn't Chris Carter be considered? I'm not saying his back catalogue is any less cheesy, but at least he's in the right genre. Better yet, get the guys behind Deadwood or Carnivale involved.
