There have been some darker titles listed (depending on your definition) but one that I remembered was the Avenged Sevenfold song: A Little Piece of Heaven, because I still remember the first time I listened to it going: wait, what was that song about? Look up the lyrics if you don't know what I'm talking about:

Anyway, just thought it deserved mention, because it managed to be dark without crossing the invisible line into being ludicrous that causes me to tune out the disturbing lyrics. A lot of these songs listed do that, so I don't consider them dark because they come across as almost comical.

I want to know the darkest song you have ever heard(It's up to you to define what makes a song dark.

If I would have to answer this question myself I would probably say this:

You've no idea how much I love Shining, although some of Niklas' views and opinions are...quite morbid/nihilistic. But I guess that's their/his appeal.

OT: Without a doubt in my mind, Abruptum, I could have linked any piece by them though.

Eminem's "Kim"

More than half the time when I listen to the album I have to skip the track it is so disturbing and uncomfortable.

Gonna have to go with Love Will Tear Us Apart by Joy Division. Maybe not dark, but as depressing as finding out you have 30 seconds to live.

The first time I heard that in high school I actually felt like I had just committed a crime.
My stomach was churning and I felt sick.

For the most overtly dark song, I have to give my vote to "Stan" by Eminem. That song gives me goosebumps just thinking about the lyrics.

However, for hidden darkness, there are two choices for me, both similar in subject matter, but the first song is from the seventies, while the other was a hit song made just last year.

Listen to the lyrics on those, or in the case of Pumped Up Kicks, read them, and you might be shocked at how dark they are.

Pretty much every Emilie Autumn song is dark to some extent.
Except for Medicate with Tea.
Yay! Other Emilie fans!

I was going to post something of hers (probably "The Art of Suicide" or "306"), but somebody beat me to her.

Or a few songs by The Mountain Goats. Most of the songs of of "The Sunset Tree" album, or "No Children" from "Tallahassee".

As soon as I saw this thread one song popped into my mind. Daddy by koRn is a very sickening and dark song about how Johnathan Davis was abused as a boy and it's really emotional. Honorable mention also goes to helmet in the bush off of the same album.
And as someone previously mentioned NIN's the downward spiral is a really dark son. Pink Floyd's wish you were here is a song that's not exactly dark but does get me sad when I listen to it so I guess it is worth mentioning.

It's about a kid who finds a gun in his father's closet and goes on a rampage in his school.

About a kid who shoots himself in front of his class during school.

In terms of sheer aggression, Arsis...
For "evil"-ness, it's between a number of nondescript black metal bands.
In terms of emotion/atmosphere, Opeth.

This song isn't metal/thrash/gore/growling and it may not be super dark in terms of bloodiness but I think it's kind of 'dark', in a sense. It was on Morel Orel, and if you've seen and enjoyed that television program, you are no stranger to 'dark' humour or 'black' comedy.

I don't really listen to much 'dark' music, but my vote goes to 'Bloodmeat' by Protest the Hero.

One line from the first verse: "Heads will roll. Throats will be slit. Blood will flow like springs of water." And it continues on like that.

Actually a pretty awesome song.

Or for 'dark' in an entirely different way, 'The Approaching Curve' by Rise Against. Beautiful song, but it's pretty fucking grim when you listen to it.

I am happy to see some Nile and Leviathan followers, but I would have to say Vladimir Cochet for the win. For example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPQdRHRFGLo (Mirrorthrone's "A Scream to Express the Hate of a Race" and no its not racist. People are stupid like that.) or from one of his other bands http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQWvDKp4b9U (Weeping Birth "Love, Death's Betrothed" lyrics can be found on metal-archives.com) or Amon Amarth's "Doom over Dead Men" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkyVjx8P1tI . Lyrics for other 2 songs in description btw.

Is good but not so much dark in my opinion. More like what you play to make people leave your house because they are afraid of being axe murdered... None the less very good.

Not really dark but I like the atmosphere this song paints, and the story it tells is chilling.

Has a great chorus.
Not sure if you've heard thier other songs but....Hurt is dark.

Just because their songs are catchy as sin (and god they are) does not degrade the dark atmosphere and tone of their stuff.
