I'm exited about this! Darksiders has become one of my favorite games of all time, the general style and plot have drawn me in! And the cliff hanger ending has made my desire for the sequel stronger.

Though this appears to be more of a prequel to most of the events of the first game, rather then a full blown sequel. Also playing as Death now should be interesting! I look foward to its release!

So you guys are... happy about this? Like, excited? I don't mean to troll, but the way I understood it there wasn't anything noteworthy about Darksiders at all. What was it about the game that was interesting and fun to you guys?

"Oh man, if this game has you playing as Pestilence I will definitely buy- well fuck it's Death."

Why would you not use Pestilence? There's so many interesting things you could do with someone who controls every disease imaginable. Diseases can do a huge variety of wonderfully nasty things. What can Death do? Kill stuff and...well that's it. Not much room for variety there. Significantly less interested now.

Have to say that design for Death looks really odd to me. I pretty much always imagined him as being a skeleton, or a shrouded figure in a long black cloak. Not some purple guy who looks like a professional wrestler. I wonder how they would design Famine, since they obviously can't give him ridiculously large muscles.

I never got around to playing the first one. Is it worth a rental at least? It looked interesting. This, however, has done little to pique my interest. I hope that the first Darksiders was more interesting than that made it out to be.
If you enjoy any of the 3D Zelda games, you will like Darksiders. The game is basically what Zelda would have been, if Miyamoto had been reading the Book of Revelations instead of wandering in a forest when he got the idea.

There is no pestilence in Darksiders lore. The Four Horsemen are: War, Death, Fury and Strife, and they are seen in the spoiler below. The chick is Fury, the dude with the gun is Strife, Death is front and center and the red guy is War.

A game doesn't have to be noteworthy to be fun.

What did I like about it? I got to kill angels and demons with massive weapons in stylised environments ie not brown with an over-the-top protagonist, or as Yahtzee put it, a monster truck that walks like a man!

Well that's even more disappointing. I don't get Fury and Strife. I don't know much about Darksiders, but isn't most of it's lore just a rewrite of parts of the bible? Shouldn't the four horsemen be Famine, War, Conquest, and Death? I've never heard of Fury or Strife used before. Feel free to enlighten me though since this is just based on my vague knowledge of the game.

I've bolded the parts that should make that answer clear for you.

...
Okay, basically they took the original idea of the four horsemen and came up with their own story around it, and felt that Pestilence and Famine were too awkward to use and replaced them with new characters.

Yea, the 4 should be War, Famine, Pestilence and Death. Presumably because Famine and Pestilence aren't "badass"/immediate enough, they scrapped them in favor of Fury and Strife.

Well they got me hyped for 10 seconds, then I realized I have seen that scenery somewhere before... oh yes it's all from Darksiders 1, and since all 4 horsemen turned up at the end of that game I was expecting D2 to go apeshit with all of them wrecking the worlds, and yet they reverted back to one single dude doing everything.

The first Darksiders had alot of potential but also alot of problems that needed to be fixed, and now it looks like they just got lazy and intend to print the same game 4 times...

Apart from the Earth parts, I don't remember seeing any of that before.

I wasn't a fan of the first Darksiders, but this trailer along with Death as the new protagonist has caught my attention. Don't screw this up THQ.

Well let's hope I'm wrong and it is all new, I really do want them to up the ante on this one and it blows me away (but I wont jump the gun until I see some proper game footage).

Huh. Death looks a bit like Raziel from the Legacy of Kain series.

At least he doesn't look like... what was Yahtzee's quote again?

Oh yeah: "Like someone sat down, starting drawing him, and never fucking stopped."

I always thought about renting but it got away from me somehow. And I like the comparison, although I haven't played any of the 3D Zelda games and never actually finished Ocarina :/

I'm playing it in small chunks on the PC (an excellent port if you ask me) and I'm thoroughly enjoying it.
I also played it on the PC recently, and I was pleasantly surprised by how well it translated over, especially compared to some of the crappy ports out there. With a 360 controller, it's basically identical to the console version, only prettier. I was happy to see the PC logo at the end of this trailer for the sequel, right next to the 360 and PS3 ones, because I was a little worried after the first one got released so much later than on the consoles and then went on sale really cheap not long afterward. It's completely over the top to the point of being ridiculous, but it's consistently that way in both gameplay and aesthetics, so it actually works instead of just seeming silly.

Yes, finally a game in which I can wreck face as Casey Jones. Goom Gal-wait, Darksiders? What's that? Is this some sort of re-branding? Is Ninja Turtles not hip enough for the new generation? Oh, I get, a grim reboot; they even replaced his hockey stick with a scythe. Well, don't think you can cash in on my nostalgia, THQ, I won't fall for it.

In all seriousness, I hope they progress in their design philosophy. Because if the first game has been seen favorably, it is only because it stood on the shoulders of giants. A whole mess of giants. Maybe it was like Katamari Damacy and they made a big ball of giants and then proceeded to ride it, like a circus act. Also, I'm disappointed to hear about Fury and Strife replacing Pestilence and Famine. If you think it's too difficult to come up with gameplay concepts: Famine would have a vampiric playstyle, and Pestilence would involve more 1 vs many battles while learning which ability (disease) exploits an enemies weakness.

I doubt we'll see any of the other horsemen any more than we did in the first game. It'll likely be flashes here and there, but that's about it. That's my guess anyway.
