...and they are about what I expected. [https://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/darksiders-iii]

The first gameplay teaser was barely enough to be considered a proof of concept, and the last showing was little better. I really liked the first one, and the second seems at least as good even though I put it on old to finish a few other games.

But this...idk. I?d probably have to be really bored and get it on a PS+ deal to give it a try. THQ Nordic?s CEO seems pleased [https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2018-11-28-thq-nordic-ceo-responds-to-mixed-darksiders-iii-review] nonetheless. Not sure how well they can justify charging $400 [https://www.destructoid.com/here-s-what-s-inside-darksiders-iii-s-ridiculously-expensive-400-apocalypse-edition--511894.phtml] for a special edition, but whatever.

For anyone that has played it, what are your impressions?

Haven't played it but the review are pretty weird, you can have a review that seems to be pretty positive, capped with a big negative score. Two reviews will read almost the same but have radically final assessment. One review will say the game is unforgiving like dark soul and the next will say that the combat is like dark soul but doesn't really work because it's too easy.

Maybe the score difference are due to player being on very different difficulty setting, has much as people ask for it dark soul on easy will be really boring.

Aside from the Escapist review, ACG and Jim's are the only ones I find consistent with their critics. Even if Jim is more negative about the game. ACG said, unless you're a hardcore fan of the series, it's a deep sale at 50% off. I got other games coming my way, so I'll be skipping Darksiders III for a long while. I'll probably pick up a copy in April.

I'm a really big fan, so of course I bought it. I am enjoying it, but it's definitely not as good as the second one. Darksiders 2 is one of my favorite games ever made. It might be better than the first one though. But I'll have to play more to see.

Quick question - if I've played Darksiders I but not II, would I be missing anything if I skipped to III?

I know the general story and lore of II, but never got round to playing it.

Possibly some references, but by rights you shouldn't be missing much as (according to Gunfire Games) Darksiders II and Darksiders III are supposed to occur concurrently. Both of these also occur after the apocalypse that acts as the prologue of Darksiders, but before the events of the game proper.

The most notable thing I saw said about this game is how it's supposedly difficult due to requiring tactical approach to combat (that's a good thing!) which sounds very weird to me. Some reviews sound like they want a mindless button masher lol.

Oh yeah. Both previous games could have been beaten easy with button mashing. They are still great games, but they didn't require a lot of effort in combat department. They did, however, have better level design and better puzzles. And Darksiders 2 is just on a whole new level of awesome.

I tried the demos and they felt like a bootleg god of war (not even gonna give it the grace of likening it to dmc or bayonetta) with a WoW aesthetic and Zelda style adventuring.

This one seems to be moving in the right direction with its gameplay by being more tactical and smart instead of an easymode, boring hack and slash. Difficulty is a good thing lol.

You're not far off, they weren't amazing game but they were solid. The game were more than the sum of there parts, master of none but decent at everything. 2 is better than one, it has multiple pretty large worlds with there different ascetic, the range of tools and weapon you get help keeps things interesting. There's a lot of stuff to do, like various things to collect and such.

I just completed the game. Pretty awesome. It starts a bit slow but it just keeps getting better and better. I enjoyed the combat and the story immensely. I didn't mind at all going back to earlier sections to keep exploring once I unlocked other hollow forms that allowed me to access some previously inaccessible areas. And that's actually optional. You can just keep going forward. But I wanted to explore every nook and cranny of this interconnected game world.

The story is an interesting aspect because of Fury. She actually has a character arc. A pretty good one. I don't want to spoil anything, but let's just say that she becomes more awesome by the end of the game. It was a really pleasant surprise.

And it's definitely better than the first game IMHO. I want to play it again right now, but I'm gonna wait for the DLC to be released, and hopefully for the New Game+ mode. I want to continue with my level 57 Fury.

So I know Yahztee is probably exaggerating, but I'd love a game where the celestial realm really was run like a bureaucracy. That's just a fantastic concept to me.

Conceptuatlly the story and the idea behind the game are great. But the actually game play drove me nuts. Poor control layout on PS4 made the game just utterly infuriating to play and I game up after beating Wrath.

Wrath the first time or second time? I found the rest of the game quite easy after the second wrath and it's almost over.

Isn't this the basis of Chinese theology?
