IGN has some new info on the latest entry in Darksiders

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5_7Fe_4kME&feature=youtu.be

In summary:

* The story expands more on the ending of Darksiders 2.

* Fury will be the most developed of the protagonists thus far.

* Some new abilities include using a fire mode to wade through lava, resist fire damage and jump higher.

Personally, I'm looking forward to it.

Same here. My problem with the Darksiders series is the pscing. Not to mention I avoided II, because of the horrible pacing and the Diablo style loot drops. The combat is looking better, and I love the look and feel of the whip. It reminds me of Lords of Shadow.

It definitely looks better than the original footage, which was little more than proof of concept. I also like her new ?flame? hair.

do you need to play Darksiders 1 to enjoy Darksiders 2?

i bought Dark siders 2 on the Wii U when it launched and started playing it but i didn't find it very interesting stopped playing it and i just forgot about it and it disappeared into my backlog.

would playing the original and knowing the backstory of the series help hold my attention span to it?

because Darksiders 2 didn't give me a very good impression i'm probably not going to bother with Darksiders 3 at this stage.

I'm at least interested in the game, even though I think Fury looks like a weird anime girl.

Hopefully it doesn't abuse the "Rule of 3's" like number 2 did. Oh boy. Nearly every task the game threw at you was "Do this mechanic 3 times" and half the time, the third thing was a tinier version of the thing that was also broken into 3 waves or actions. Got pretty annoying.

I did like the diablo-esque loot stuff though. You could actually design a build once you started getting rarer armour and weapons to drop. I remember you could reroll the skills that dropped on your stuff so you weren't super stuck with what the loot sticks you with. By the end of my time with the game, I focused on a High-Crit chance + Crit's heal +fast scythes, so normally, I think it was 40% of my hits were crits and once I used a certain ability, it'd jump to 70% for 30 seconds or something.

If the new game can give me that kind of freedom, I think I'd be down for that.

I wouldn't call playing Darksiders 1 essential but it is a good game.

Is it true all 3 games take place more or less at the same time as each other? I haven't played either game released so far but I'm kinda interested now.

If DS2 didn?t grab you it?s unlikely the original will. It?s basically the same game style and theme but with a new character/play mechanics in a different environment. I personally liked the first but haven?t finished 2 yet even though the first few hours seemed more enjoyable to me. I?m sure there?s a youtube about the lore and story if that?s what you?re after.

Without spoiling anything, the timelines of 1 & 2 overlap and already make for an interesting narrative, especially if 3 continues that trend. If you like Zelda and God of War (or Legacy of Kain) then this series is well worth checking out. It has a fun blend of combat, platforming and clever puzzle solving, but you have to like the ?hack n slash? genre enough to stay engaged throughout. Its biggest flaw imo is using the age-old ?kill enemies, collect orbs to level up gear? formula; not necessarily bad in itself, but to me it?s grown a bit sloggish especially after the Souls series. If that doesn?t bother you much, then you?re in for a good time.

Always just kinda thought it was a God of War clone from what little I'd seen. Hearing it also takes cues from Zelda shines a different light on it as I liked GoW more for the spectacle then the actual combat, but I generally like Zelda-like games regardless.

So yeah, I think I'm gonna give at least the first one a try when I get a chance.

Whenever I think of the games, I always think the first one is the GoW clone, since it's more linear than the second one, whereas the second one is a lot more open. The second game definitely has the Zelda feel since you're getting a grab bag of tools to solve puzzles in dungeon-like zones.

My memory is unreliable though when it comes to the first game, haven't revisited it since the second one came out.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
Looking pretty damn good, but I really wish they didn't go with those moronic high heels. I just can't imagine her running over all the random shit on the ground without those heels getting caught on crap.

No, its really got nothing to do with god of war. The first one is more different Legend of Zelda with some devil may cry combat thrown in. The second is diablo if it was third person.

I always felt like they marketed the series wrong.

DS2 really felt like a very western take on Legend of Zelda formula.

I'm liking the combat a lot more than I did in the older footage. Maybe it's my imagination, but the dodging feels a lot more agile and the hits a lot heavier than they did before, which were my main reservations about the game.

Still wish we would have gotten the 4 player co-op game they were teasing before THQ went under...

Maybe she was hanging around with 2B and A2 from Neir:Automata?

I don't get it either. High Heels in a combat zone doesn't look sexy, they look stupid and I honestly don't get it. A close second for "looks incredibly stupid" is the guy wearing a half unraveled necktie in a fight for reasons(as opposed to chucking it or using it as a bandage).

Does it really matter? It's a highly stylized fantasy about mythical creatures.

Yeah and last I checked, mythical creatures don't walk around in heels. Quite a number of them don't even wear shoes.

Really not a fan of Fury. Every time I see her it reminds me that the studio wasn't creative enough to figure out how to get "Pestilence" to work.

High Heels don't normally exist in fantasy to begin with, which makes it extra dumb, really. But for me it's the fact that literally any other footwear would be more practical for, well, anything.

Or fuck, go the Dark Souls route and have your badass murder lady dance around barefoot while cutting you into 1000 pieces.
