I rented it earlier today, I'm about 3 hours in and am enjoying it. In fact I'll probably start playing again once I log off here. My only complaint at the moment is that the combat feels a little stiff (especially compared to the God of War collection I receeived for Christmas and playing the Bayonetta demo). Depending how much I accomplish the game I may see if I can pick up a used copy here in a weeks.

Games fun. Legend of Zelda for adults for anyone who grew up playing those games. It blatantly rips off everything the N64 version of the game did but it does it better. Also the combat is way more brutal obviously. Tearing winged demons in half with your bare hands is pretty awesome.
Are you fucking kidding?

If its even remotely like zelda, I'm buying this tomorrow.

Is it really that good?
I hate when people compare darksiders to Zelda its more like Legacy of Kain and Soul reavers.
which were action and adventure games with puzzle elements. I remember Soul Reaver had a lot high level vocabulary.
I'm a big fan of the LoK series as well, and there are indeed elements from the Soul Reaver games in Darksiders, but try as much as you like, you can't deny that the following were exactly copied from LoZ:
- targeting system
- dungeon crawling
- puzzles (right down to the game playing a jingle when you solve a puzzle)
- the boomerang and the grappling hook
- riding around on a horse

You're in for a treat. I don't care what people say, the game borders on copyright infringement with the similarities the gameplay has with Zelda lol. The targeting, maps in dungeons, boomerang, right down to a grappling hook and a horse. The game was obviously inspired by Zelda to the umpteenth degree. And it is epic!
That does it. I'm getting Darksiders tonight.

I'll just list a few things.

You get an item called a 'crossblade' that you throw out to solve some puzzles and help a little in combat. It comes back to you, almost like a boomerang.
You also get the 'abyssal chain' which lets you grab onto certain objects and acess previously inaccesible areas. A bit like a grappling hook.
Before you can get to a boss, you need to go through a dungeon an solve various puzzles in order to open the required doors.
When you get to the bosses, they'll usually be a special technique that you'll need to do in order to stun them and do some direct damage. Usually do that three times.
Also, you have a horse called Epona Ruin.

Yes, it's like Zelda. And it is awesome

Edit: Dammit, ninja'd.

I was on the fence about getting this too, only heard about it a couple of days ago (after leaving my humble abode of a very nicely furnished rock) and after watching some vids and hearing all the awesome stuff about it on here I think I'll pick it up this weekend :D Anyone know if Bayonetta is good? I loved the DMC games and it is by the same creator, but I'm meant to be cutting down on my game time.

Bayonetta is okay, the gameplay is fine, but personally I'm not a fan of the presentation. it's just too over the top for me, as if the game was made for 15 year olds who've never seen a girl naked before. While bayonetta is a good game worthy of a playthrough, Darksiders is just much more fun in my eyes.

I recently got Darksiders, as I work in a store that sells videogames I get dibs on new releases and I usually pay them when the price drops a bit.

Anyway it's a good game. I'm really attracted by the story and the feel of WAR and his watcher overlord. The voice acting is truly superb and the characters all feel right. The weapons are cool, albeit not all of them entirely original Darksiders just makes it work. The combat is visceral and visually stunning, the ability to 'weave' combo's with three weapons and string them together is delightful when it works.

My only true gripe is that I recently finished Bayonetta (X360) and as anyone that has will tell you that the combat in that is incredibly responsive, there is virtually no delay - even during combo's - when pressing the dodge move the response is immediate, and now I feel War's dodge is slow and annoying. Sometimes when I dodge (especially backwards) I seem to fall just an inch within the enemy's attack radius, causing frustrating deaths. This has actually caused to put the game on cold for a while, but I know I only have this gripe because Bayonetta spoiled me with her fancy witch time and wicked weave combo's, and eventually I will get around to finishing it I am sure.
