It looks really cool, but reviews were unspectacular. Is it worth the $40 on PC? I'll be using a 360 controller.

I didn't buy the game but I got bored playing the demo and stopped, so I can't imagine the game itself is any fun. Basically a God of War clone but worse.

This basically is what I was going to say.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I really enjoyed it, the story is interesting but they dont do enough with it but the gameplay is very good, if you like zelda you will like this, and the people who say its a god of war clone are wrong, its a zelda clone with elements from devil may cry and several other games, the only thing god of war and darksiders have in common are souls

i didn't buy it but a friend let me borrow it... it was ok, but it didn't really have anything original... combat and upgrades were God of War and puzzles were Zelda and later in the game portal. The story was about as good as is expected from hack and slash games and the graphics were decent. I enjoyed it but then again i always look for the best in games.

I loved it, personally. The least original game I've ever played, but it was good fun. Pretty decent story, some very nice puzzles and functional combat. Also has a fantastic art style. I'd say it's well worth it.

For the record, it's not really anything like God of War. The combat is similar, but it's not the main focuse of the game. That would be the puzzles, and they work really well.

It was pretty fun for a while. Worth at least one playthrough. $40 ain't much so I'd go for it.

Darksiders certainly isn't a bad game, so if you think it looks cool I say go for it. Especially if you're interested in Christian myth.

Its God of War with less combos, more stolen gimmicks (for instance: portal gun), and the worst jumping controls ever made.

**Zelda clone. The combat is nowhere near deep enough to be a GoW clone. However the temple/puzzle/item to solve puzzle/boss structure is very Zelda-like.

It's just not great. It gets very cheap in the endgame.

It was pretty fun at the start though.

I bought it and never finished it. Very bland gameplay compared to similar games such as Zelda and God of War, and by the point they handed me a fetch quest to return to every area of the game again, I asked myself "Why am I doing this again?" followed by "Do I care?" At which point I got in my car and drove to the nearest CD/Game Exchange, got [Prototype] - lather, rinse, repeat.

I quite enjoyed it. It's a very "comic book" style of game, which is unsurprising considering that Joe "Mad" Madureira was involved in the project.

Forget people saying it's a God of War clone, or a Zelda clone, or whatever. The _____-clone definition is stupid in and of itself. Darksiders is its own game, and what it does, it does well. The story is fun, the combat is interesting and the puzzles are entertaining.

Plus, you get Mark Hammil voicing a daemon.

in actuality, we could say GoW is copying DMC in that aspect.
If memory serves, Devil May Cry 1 came out before God of War. red orbs were the upgrade system in DMC..all GoW did different i say, is allow you to upgrade from anywhere.

Sorry, but it really is the definition of a GoW or Zelda clone, particularly the latter.

Horse you can summon at any time to get across long distances quicker? Check.
Levels made up of dungeons in which you find new tools for solving puzzles, followed by a boss fight? Check.
Said dungeons can be navigated by the equivalent of the map and compass, which also displays all of the chests? Check.
Floating companions who are jackasses toward the main character? Check.
The equivalent to a hookshot and a boomerang? Checkity check check check. (Not to mention both the gun and the crossbow serve as long range offense)

To be fair, the gameplay actual falls more into the general genre of hack and slash, thus is not exactly a GoW clone, especially compared to something like Dante's Inferno. Also, a Zelda-clone is not inherently a bad thing. Some people have claimed Soul Reaver is very similar to Zelda games, however that particular game took the basis of Zelda and took it in a very different direction, whereas Darksiders is inferior to Zelda in just about every way.
