Darren Aronofsky is rebooting Robocop, your thoughts?

The original Robocop worked perfectly fine, was an excellent movie, and was one of the series of 80's movies with a underlying serious issue (Rambo's PTSD, Robocops take on unrestrained corporate greed, Dirty Harry's timeless question of where the rights of the public clash with the rights of the accused).
The only thing they can possibly accomplish is a straight forward action film. Which is already a step behind the original, so why?

I ultimately don't really care, Robocop had already turned to shit long before this remake thanks to those godawful sequels, so I doubt the franchise could fall any lower.
The real problem I see with this remake is that they'll try to recreate that Paul Verhoeven-style of directing that made the first movie so wonderfully cynical, and the second one such a soulless cash-in.
