cluing them in that he may have issues
May have issues? Guy betrayed everyone, murdered whole planets of people and wouldn't have refrained from killing his own son and daughter. And you think he may have had issues?
What kind of psychologists are you?

I think diagnosing characters would make interesting case studies for students who are learning how to diagnose people, could make a game out of it.

When has a psychologist ever told anyone "Your normal, I don't think you have any disorders."?

...wait... this is about the actual character, not the actor who portrayed him? That's a relief!!!

As for BPD: No. Why can't we just say he's evil!

I think he's bi-polar. Who can blame him? Lucas decided to ruin a very good series, so like father, like son.

"If only his medical plan had allowed him to afford it."

I disagree, Anakin is a total wuss. Darth Vader is the embodiment of awesome.

Man, I thought they were diagnosing the actor. Diagnosing the character is silly. Characters don't have mental state so much as they have whatever personality that the writer determines best suits the plot. Saying Vader has a weird personality based off the choices the character makes in order to forward the plot is silly.

On top of that, the character supposedly manifest a highly unusual mental state, Sith/Jedi, unusually adapt in the Force, which likely invalidates a standard measure.

He also has a serious case of fictionality. Seriously though, someone got paid for this? I wonder what they feel they have accomplished by it.

People, on the web, in an online magazine called 'The Escapist' because it is about games and general recreational electronic-media escapism, accusing other people of having 'too much time on their hands'.

Irony gauge just hit 11.

Yep. I mean, the problem with crap like this, is the fact that it doesnt TAKE a scientist to work this stuff out.

We watch a guy dressed in a full black metal suit coldly kill people for trivial reasons in multiple ways, and also longs to take over the entire galaxy.

Anyone who NEEDS a scientist, psychologist... hell, ...even your MUM, to tell you that Vader has mental problems seriously needs to go and re-evaluate their intelligence level.

As for the french psychologists...well as with all this Pop science - its done purely just to generate interest in their uni/college/institute in order to raise their profile in order to hopefully gain donations. If they were properly funded by their governments, they might actually be doing worthwhile science instead of trying to pander to the masses with pointless advertising dressed in science like this.

This is not news. War is news. Terrorism is news. Miracles are news. This is a bunch of 'professionals' diagnosing a fictional persona.
This is the escapist. You want war, terrorism, and hard news? Go troll the cnn forums.
Excuse me? Who the fuck are you calling a troll?
I just think it's a bit silly to demand serious news from a website that, by it's very name, is dedicated to the notion of escapism.

I love how a bunch of GAMERS are saying that this guy could have spent his time doing something more useful. Guess what guys, psychologists can also have fun and do something a little weird and funny once in a while. I guess all those people that analyze movies and games and wasting their time because "it's just a game/movie durrrrrrr".
If it's for fun, that's one thing... but the implication was that there was funding (a grant or other) behind this research. So someone, other than the researchers (for their own personal amusement), paid for this. If so, the money could have been used for something more beneficial to society as a whole.

But sure, if this was an independent research conducted by the psychologists themselves & funded by themselves... then have fun. Good for them for indulging in a fantasy. That's why we're here escaping, right? ;)
