I don't really care, as I haven't watched any of the Star Wars since I saw Episode I in theatres when I was, like, five or six.

They say Vader is returning, but not that Anakin is returning. So, that could mean a copycat or something. Like Jigsaw with the Saw franchise.

Besides, it's science fiction. You don't think they can just whip up new lore to back up a resurrection, if such lore isn't already present?
Oh the lore is there. Cloning force users for instance is... difficult, and often leads to insanity on the part of the cloned, but it is possible, and flash memory imprints also exist. In fact, there are a few pieces of fan fiction where the remnants of the empire do exactly that, flash clone a healthy copy of Vader who wears the iconic armor more for symbolism than out of necessity.

However, just because bringing a dead character back to life represents less of a plothole than usual does not make it the right thing to do. In this case, the redemption and death of Anakin Skywalker represents a huge turning point for all six movies. To simply hit the undo button on that event...

See, I figured the possibility that a clinging-to-power-by-their-fingernails Empire might shove someone else into a Vader suit to "keep up appearances", as it were.

Still, I think we're both putting too much thought into what's probably a dumb rumor.

It wasn't Darth Vader, it was Jeff Vader who got killed!

I think everyone needs to step back, think for a moment and realize anything Disney tries to do will be leagues better than Lucas.
Empire Strikes Back is also the one he had the least amount of input in, and is widely regarded as the best
Return of the Jedi: The one he had the most involvement in, and it had Ewoks.
Then he put a ton of CGI and edits that ruined the films, Disney can't do worse than Lucas.

Depends when the new movies take place, doesn't it? If they are talking about "evil Vader" specifically, I'm guessing somewhere inbetween 2 and 3 (or 5 and 6, or whatever, or fuck you) or maybe in another part of the galaxy. Or between prequel and normal trilogy. Or something.
Do we even know the new movies will take place later than the original trilogy?

Force ghosts had several big roles in some of the story lines pre-dating all the movies.
Wouldn't that mean he'd have to become "unredeemed"? Vader's force ghost was good, after all.

Whoa whoa, let's not get worked up about this yet. Disney's acquisition happened when... two weeks ago? They may have had screenwriters looking at this for longer than that but it seems to me wwaaaaayyyyy to soon to have anything as concrete as that.

The Star Wars series has enough problems with unoriginality. I doubt they'll bring back Lord Vader but who wants to bet the antagonist won't have a red lightsaber?

Whatever, just wash your hands.
Hmm, is there a way to bring vader back that is compelling..... well they just said they were bringing vader back, not anikan skywalker (I don't care enough to check spelling) They might be bringing him back as a concept and a threat instead of the old character, or they might even be bringing back his first incarnation, not some big bad boss, just a black knight to carry out the orders of the real big bads.

So the re-re-release will have a cgi Darth Vader telling Luke to replace the mask, and they then return to Endor and enjoy bonding by the fire? No, but really, how the hell could the retcon this into an Episode 7...or 12?

Edit:
I like Worgen's perspective.

This sounds to me like one of those old superman covers where it shows superman setting fire to a puppy or something with a massive tagline saying HAS SUPERMAN BECOME A PUPPY MURDERER? In short, no, he hasn't.. it's going to be a dream sequence or something which has absolutely no bearing or impact on the overall plot and only exists to work in that stupid teaser, or in this case to invoke meaningless nostalgia for a series of films which used to be cool before they were milked dry as a bone.

..And it's really, really sad when you're actually hoping to be fucked over like that just because the alternative is being fucked over with less lube.
