Okay, can I swear now? Now? Okay, don't open the tag if you don't want to see it.

FUCKED SHIT FUCKED MOTHERFUCKING WINDOWS LIVE!!

Thanks to that piece of shit I can't play any Games for Windows games because those idiots don't allow Polish players here. Why the hell should we even care about buying those games? With pirated copies we can do EVERYTHING we could do with original games. Even more - I don't have to log in to that piece of crap called Windows Live!

I'll try to get a proxy so that fucked shit will see me as UK or USA citizen. If it won't, they lost my $50.
I think that there are workarounds to your problem on the DoW II forums, it has something to do with just changing your country to one near you that has windows live or something like that.

Again, why are you so mad for breaking the rules of the beta?
What rules of beta? Only thing DoW 2 has to do with my hate towards Windows Live is it's rediculous country restrictions. Which can be avoided by creating a profile, then lying about your region.

Also, I can't simply understand - why DoW has Games for Windows if it already has a superior version of multiplayer support, Steam?

Hour wasted just to see there are no games currently hosted, nobody tring to join either.

I see only this:

Open Beta. Available for all Steam customers.

Download, get Microsoft Live and Gamers for Windows tag, play.

I managed to get the whole thing installed, but only AFTER I uninstalled all previous versions of LIVE software and Microsoft .NET framework. Apparently Microsoft can't design software and programs that are compatible with each other... After the uninstallation, I just ran DoW2 and the game installed everything it needed itself. Moral of the story? Uninstall Microsoft programs to get things working! :p

That being said, I'm pretty sure LIVE isn't supported in my country, but I also don't remember being particularly bothered by it. In fact, I must have missed the part of the registration where they ask about my location and left it on the default setting (UK I guess...) and my account works just fine, played a few matches with no problems at all.

Lame gameplay? Did you play it?

I liked DoW 1 and it looks like I'll like this one.

I didn't have to lie about my region. I didn't do a thing to my live account. I already had GFWL from Fallout 3 so my acheivements would be on my gamercard. I just downloaded the beta from steam and started playing.

I don't know why you folks who can't play are having trouble so I can't really help you, sorry.

It's a goddamn beta. This is where they fix the minor interface annoyances and betas dont have lan FFS.
Most of the problems people seemed to have here were linked to the Windows LIVE service, and that is going to stay the same, beta or full release.

if there's a beta available for DOW2, i'll probably lok into it.

but before i do, can someone give me some useful and correct facts about this GFWL? i've heard about it, mostly in connection with many colourful expletives which are probably best left un-uttered

[removed for being totally incorrect - Mod]
If the game's available on any system other than Windows live, buy it on that.

So, steam is offering a free go at the DoW2 beta. Awsome.
Just downloaded it, somewhat hyped as this is a game I had every intention of buying, even though I'd heard it was using "games for windows live", I'd also heard it had been fixed and would let me play lan games or host my own online games with friends. Based on the BETA, I was wrong.

There is no option for a skirmish or a lan game, however it is a beta so it's unfair to ***** about that too much if they intend to include it in the full realese.

However, it requires me to log in with my windows live ID. Shouldn't be an issue, right?
I have one coupled with my Xbox live silver membership, I've never really used it, but it is there. Apparently microsoft have decided to brick wall the game to Australians, as windows live, even though it instantly detects my password when I input my email, is unable to sign in. It suggests that windows live is not avaliable yet in my country....

Is anyone else having this issue, and if so, does anyone know how to fix it?

I'll be back with an edit if I get it working.
*edit* apparently windows live refuses to work with xfire, issue resolved (although it is gay).
So...you're mad because you violated the terms of the beta?
Ultimately, yes.
However my seemingly unjustified rage goes a little further than that. First the issue took me over an hour to fix, is it really that much of an issue to provide maybe a some form of tech support, relating to the terms online. I spent a lot of time digging through games for windows live tech support without any mention of xfire compadibility. I've still not read the part where it says xfire is a bad person (and I don't intend to comb through the whole thing now that I've solved my issue). Hell I would even go so far as to say that prehaps the issue (I doubt it is unintentional) related to xfire could get an error message that does not relate to the region of my xbox live account, the BETA is not, as far as anything I have agree'd to is concerned, with where I live.
There is no issue with the game itself (actually there were a few but they were irrelevant to the DRM with which the game is associated, and as it's a BETA I don't care, as I pointed out in the OP. Windows live however is not in BETA). The problem is largely to do with microsoft deciding to force their bullshit system on me at exclusion of all else, it will be a cold day in hell when I play steam games that don't allow me to run msn or xfire in the background.

Mainly though, I was venting my frustration at a BETA being made available to me that wouldn't work in my region. If there are region restrictions on the BETA, how about we display them before some poor bastard churns through over 2 gigabytes of data downloading the software from a trusted source (Steam, and yes they are obviously as much to blame).

I'm pissed at Games for Windows LIVE for a different reason. No matter what I do I can't get the Fallout 3 DLC, it doesn't register it exists. I've reinstalled GfWL, all kinds of other solutions, nothing. It's just a crappy service.

And Bethesda made it the ONLY WAY to get the thing for PC.

Uhm, Windows LIVE isn't the purchasing system (though it can also be that, I think), it's the game's matchmaking thingy. You can get the game through Steam, but you still need a Windows LIVE account to play (from what I understand, even offline).

1 - Does that mean it's going to require Vista? Yes
2 - Does that mean I have to have a Live account? Yes
3 - If yes to #2, does such an account cost money? Yes (if you want to play online against other human beings, you will have to upgrade to a Gold account)
4 - If yest to any above, are they trying to drive away potential buyers, or were they just beaned in the head with the eTard stick? Yes

Woah, you are ignorant, aren't you.

1. It doesn't require Vista, I can run it on my XP SP3. And probably SP2 too.

2. Yes, you need Live account.

3. No, it doesn't cost anything for PC players. You don't have to upgrade anything.

4. Agree.
