I wonder how many other actors/actresses will be recruited from 'The Fires of Pompeii'?

We've already gotten one companion and one Doctor.

Yeah I'm jumping on this too. My girlfriend and I were completely lost in the first few minutes because the Name of the Doctor ending with them being in some weird non-place, seemingly trapped, with 11 appearing to truly hate the War Doctor, who seemed to be saddened by his choice but not regret them. Now we come to the Day of the Doctor, and he and Clara are absolutely fine (Does this take place before Name then??), and the War Doctor is more a sad old man than a proud-if-haunted general.

I really liked the special, but I was expecting something quite a bit different from the tone of the last episode, as well as the 8th Doctor short.
Name of the Doctor has to take place before Day of the Doctor - Matt Smith tells Tennant that he's seen Trenzalore. I agree that it's a very unclear how they could have escaped from the Doctor's timestream, but then, this is Doctor Who. Maybe they just climbed through a convenient time crack, or the Doctor managed to summon the TARDIS.

If I had to guess, I'd say Moffat was originally planning to have the 50th anniversary within the Doctors timestream, but that plan got changed at some point.

I was really impressed by this episode.

I was wondering how they were planning to introduce and/or explain Capaldi's Doctor, and I really liked the chemistry between the three Doctors - particularly Smith and Tennant. I'd love to see more of them gallivanting around together, I think it'd be excellent. <3

The dialogue was just perfect.

I am interested to see what kind of Doctor Capaldi will be.

I did enjoy the special, i wouldn't say it was the best episode ever, in my opinion Russel T Davies did the show more justice. Steven Moffatt has never really captured the epic scope of the show, at least not to my mind.

One thing did bug me a little, now don't misunderstand, i think David Tennant is brilliant and to my mind the best Doctor to date, but did anyone else find he kind of turned into a spare part 15 minutes in? Once he, Matt Smith and John Hurt were all together he just kind of wandered along being David Tennant while the other two had the meaningful dialogue.

Still fun all the same.

I've had mixed feelings about the recent Moffat run and I really did not enjoy The Name of the Doctor, so this was an extremely pleasant surprise. I'd say this was Moffat's best bit of timey-wimey tomfoolery since The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang. And John Hurt was utterly fantastic. But I was slightly miffed by the explanation for Gallifrey's survival. Since the fifth series finale I've gotten the feeling that Matt Smith's Doctor, unlike Tennant's and Eccleston's, doesn't really have to make tough choices. He's usually smart enough to see a third way out. Which is sometimes very cool and reinforces the Doctor's genius, but sometimes it feels like it diminishes the show's stakes. If the Doctor can think his way out of most tough situations it's not very dramatic when he has to make one. But, overall it was quite exciting and jolly good fun.

P.S. Capaldi's little cameo made it appear as if he will be a much more curmudgeonly incarnation. Which, YES. Very excited for Christmas.

I know it's already been mentioned, but Capaldi's eyebrows. Come on guys, if this gets no one excited for the Christmas episode, I don't know what else gets me excited.

I was disappointed, I'm afraid.

The Doctor's responsibility for the destruction of his people has been one of the few genuinely dark elements in the show. 'The Day of the Doctor' removed it. The Time War is now simply another flawless victory.

I completely agree, because now it seems as though he can travel through 'space and time' with no burden of ending his own race. Also, it also means that their is chance that other time lords could com back, that can't happen, it would ruin the nature of the show. They should've just ended the episode with all the Doctors pushing the button. ugh!
