[quote/]At last, DC Comics has shown their hand after weeks of speculation. The rumors of a massive DC Universe reboot have been confirmed. In September, comic fans will be the recipients of 52 #1 issues as the entire line of DC Universe titles gets a relaunch. Everyone from Superman to Booster Gold will be getting a revamp, which includes redesigns and a "younger" continuity.

DC Comics co-publisher Dan Didio told USA Today, "We looked at what was going on in the marketplace and felt we really want to inject new life in our characters and line. This was a chance to start, not at the beginning, but at a point where our characters are younger and the stories are being told for today's audience."
[quote/]A new title starring Superman written by Grant Morrison.

Birds of Prey #1 - This new ongoing series will not feature the work of longtime "BoP" writer Gail Simone. In fact, many tried and true approaches to books will be getting a second look at DC in September.

Teen Titans #1 - The new start for the teen team will be written by "Red Robin" scribe Fabian Nicieza.

Justice Society of America #1 - Only one of a number of current titles that will welcome a creative team shift, the future of the original superhero team will apparently not involve current writer Marc Guggenheim.

Wonder Woman #1 - Don't expect the recent changes from writer J. Michael Straczynski to stick when the Amazing Amazon sees another new #1 hit.

Green Lantern #1 - Even with a new #1, Green Lantern remains in Johns' hands, and readers can expect the effects of major crossovers like "Blackest Night" to stay in place moving forward.

Hawkman #1 - While fans have known a "Hawkman" series by James Robinson has been in the works since the writer mentioned it on a panel at New York Comic Con, Bleeding Cool's Rich Johnston has been reporting the rumor that the book will be drawn by "Batman & Robin" and "Outsiders" artist Philip Tan.

Aquaman #1 - No surprises here. The already announced series featuring the sea king by Johns and Ivan Reis will be part of the relaunch wave.
It's unclear at this point whether this a complete reboot like Crisis on Infinite Earths or simply a bit of a "clean up". What we do know is every character the DC comic book getting a "fresh start" and DC are releasing 52 new comic books with the 1# stamp.

Personally I don't really have enough information to know how to feel about this. If it's a complete reboot, fuck you DC. There are a lot of comic book nerds who are invested in these characters and storylines, it'd be awful to see all this thrown away. If it's simply a clean up I'm all for it, there's a lot of stupid crap that has become a main part of some of these Superheroes storylines that simply needs to be pushed under a rug and forgotten about (Time traveling Batman, Wonder Womans new costume, New Krypton ect).

I will say I'm super excited for Grant Morrison working on Superman. He may be batshit crazy but GM's nuttiness suits Superman down to the ground, and his comic book All Star Superman is probably the best Superhero comic of the last decade. Plus it would be good to get him off Batman (again, time traveling Batman, da fuck?)

I'm quite interested to see how people feel about this. If you read comic books regularly how do you feel? Are you worried about continuanity simply being thrown away? And if you don't read modern comic books would this reboot get you reading them?

DC reboots at the drop of a hat these days. I've had computers that reset less often.

What they're basically doing is re-running plotlines with different characters although the same name. That's just refried leftovers.

This thread needs more Spiderman

Yeah I dunno man, the comic industry is nothing near what it once was, so...mmh. Well, I for one have little interest, but it'll be good to see what comes of this.

I have serious doubts that this is going to stick. Marvel and DC have both been doing shakeups like these for years, but the same rule has always applied; the survival of the status quo is paramount.

If anything, it seems likely to me that this reboot will be revealed to be an alternate reality running parallel to the standard "New Earth" continuity, something in the vein of Marvel's 'Ultimate' line. An interesting experiment, surely, but at the end of the day, nothing will have changed.

Agreed, nothing like this sticks for long. Even Crisis has come back in recent year to bonk readers over the head with dumb shit which happen before many of them were even born.

However this looks to me like it is a return to "status quo" or at least status quo as anyone who doesn't read comic book rampently. Aside from Wonder Woman I doubt many of these characters are going to change all that. DC seem to be walking in and saying "Batman didn't time travel" rather than coming in and saying "Superman's now a lizard".

The problem I have is enivitably some things of these changes will not be for the best. Like I'd hate it if Dick Grayson and Damien Wayne as Batman & Robin was simply wiped from existance or Superman's adoptive dad was brought back to life.

Comic books just seem to be afraid to progress.

"For today's audience", Didio says.

Today's audience is mostly comprised of the 30-somethings who grew up reading your shit, moron.

I agree this is a bit of a slap in the face, and I don't even read comics much.

From the sounds of this it's not going to be a full reboot, just some sort of wierd timey-wimey-multi-versy ball-shit. But no I'm moderately interested, will be picking up Grant's Superman. I read bits of and then ignored his Batman as he's just not the right fit of a writer for that. I kinda wish DC would stop wishing for their characters to "mature" and then moan when they realize this means they have to age, even at slow comic book time. I'd love to see a DC imprint that moved along with real-time, with Superman Batman and Wonder Woman all appearing in 2012, the Titans a few years after and the JSA 20 years before. Every 12 issues a character would be a year older, and each issue would be dated to a point within that year dependent on story arc length. This way they could face a few interesting villains per year, and it be implied they spend the rest of it chasing muggers etc. They would grow old, have their DKR moments, and then hand over their suit to a sidekick or apprentice, and eventually die.

I read Grant Morrison+Superman and I was happy

Also Marvel fans saving DC re-boots too much. Are you fucking serious? Ultimate universe? not to mention half-reboots like Brand new day, Strazynski's run on Thor, Cap America, New Avengers, Iron Fist, Iron Man Extremis etc. etc. (I love both labels)
