You mean Bat-Wing? Wing-man is as of yet not revealed character in Batman Inc (my money is on Superman).

Mostly average, some terrible, but there's a few surprising gems, in particular All Star Western and Aquaman. Batman, Action Comics and Animal man are all good, but that's to be expected.

That's the thing, everyone and their mother expected these numbers for the first issues. The DC reboot is far from a success yet. We need to wait and see, first.

The real interesting figures will be those of downloads. I downloaded the reboot myself, print is dead. Was surprised at how good some of the titles are... And how terrible others were. Good luck DC.

Interesting figures. But i dont think it´s surprising to see the first mumber one issues being sucessful. They have markey value and it´s a well advertised hot topic. To claim that it is a slam dunk, we´ll need to see the sales results of month 2, to see if people are sticking to the comics. But this is good news for DC and comics in general

Screw DC, screw Dan DiDio and screw this reboot.

This from someone who doesn't regularly read comics.

But seriously, what the hell is this? [http://www.comicsalliance.com/2011/09/22/starfire-catwoman-sex-superheroine/]

I also heard about that not even beind a comic-fan. (did like the show Teen Titans so I was interested) and then I found out the reboot of starfire made her a slut.
Wait...what? Explain please. The Titans are the only ones I follow out of the DC universe, and I haven't heard anything about any of them yet. Did they do anything to Raven?
Starfire spends the entirety of the first issue of Red Hood and the Outlaws #1 posing and offering sex to her team-mates. She has slept with both of them by the end of the issue. Her contribution to the actual plot? Nothing.

As for Raven, she isn't a member of the Teen Titans right now but she may come back later, as far as we know she's unchanged.

I'm not surprised, this was a brilliant move if they needed a money surge. Don't expect this rise in readership last, though. Especially considering how infamous some of these first issues already are.

The public wants what the public gets.

Creativity is no match for sheer mass marketing. People will buy elepant turds as long as you call them a delightfully retro pachyderm faeces sculpture.

May I suggest Dresden Codak's masterful ideas for a re-boot instead?

http://dresdencodak.tumblr.com/post/10979241054/rebooting-the-justice-league

Because at least he doesn't make all the women look like whores.

Fuck Frank Miller.

Edit: Gah, ninja'd...but look at it anyway :)

I have a sneaking suspicion that sales will fall off drastically over the coming months and many of them will be cancelled, and if Batwoman and/or Animal Man are cancelled I will be furious with the human race.

I've read the bulk of it and there are good titles and there are some pretty bad titles. Fortunately most of the tent pole titles like Superman, Action Comics, Detective Comics, Justice League, the Batman titles, etc are all pretty decent. Sadly there are also some books that just suck out loud too like Green Arrow, Hawk and Dove, Grifter, Voodoo, and few others. Of course what sort of stood out to me was how good some of the more obscure books were. Animal Man was pretty freaking awesome as was Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E., and Demon Knights. All in all there is are a lot of good titles and a few bad ones.

My take on the relaunch as a DC and particularly Superman fanboy for nearly thirty years is that it has been mostly good. A few titles have been weak, some have been great. I think most people these days are aware that #1 issues really won't ever be that valuable unless you're prepared to wait decades, so I don't think the rush for #1s is as distorting a factor as people think. I think a lot of it is the excitement to see what's new with these characters. That said, it will be how well they hold their readers over the next few issues that will determine their success.

If anyone here is not aware, the content of this reboot has been a hot topic in the webcomics/indie community.

I present one link showcasing the poor writing and direction. http://www.shortpacked.com/2011/comic/book-13/04-remedial-adulthood/math/

And one showing that a webcomic artist, unsigned to any company, can make a more compelling, logical, and solid reboot of DC heroes then the current writers are doing.

While on his free time and managing his own comic.

In the space of a blog post.

http://dresdencodak.tumblr.com/post/10979241054/rebooting-the-justice-league

This surge of sales is only due to the big flashy #1 on the cover. I predict it will plummet down to normal. Or even below, now that they pissed off all the old readers and basically just started putting the same content out again.
I think pretty much everyone I've talked to agrees that they've wrecked Starfire. I do wonder sometimes what goes through writers' (and editors') minds when this sort of thing gets approved.

That blog post, while interesting, does change the characters somewhat. The plan for DC was to revitalise their characters, not re-imagine them entirely.

My lady and i've pre-ordered all 52 of th'new #1's...we haven't read 'em all through yet, but we have mixed reactions to some of 'em...

I love th'new Green Arrow, th'direction of Batman and Robin, th'fact that Nightwing's back in his old costume (more or less), and am interested in Aciton comics for th'first time in years...even th'new Green Lantern

that bein' said, i'm underwhelmed with Suicide Squad, Deathstroke didn't do anything for me, neither did most of th'characters i'd never heard of prior to this like Animal Man, and Resurrection Man...and i'm still pissed off that they've got Barbra wearin' the Batgirl cowl again...i loved her as Oracle...i thought she contributed to the DCU so much more in that role than as "Batman's plucky female sidekick"...

so yeah..did that answer your question?

Correct me if i'm wrong, but hasn't Kori's sexuality always been (or at least for a few years now) a strong trait of that character? I seem to remember quite a few times Grayson bein' uncomfortable or thrown for a loop when her openly sexual nature comes out (like when she flat-out introduced Nightwing as her "Lover" to her family) durin' their engagement...i'm not sayin' the example i gave is specific or proves my point, but i seem to recall her people all bein' that way...so th'fact that they amped it a bit really doesn't seem that out of place. Unless of course the only info you have on th'character is the Cartoon...then it'd probably be a culture shock...

All the books I picked up were at least good, but most were great.

The standouts of the relaunch are easily the 'Dark' line -

Animal Man
Swamp Thing
Demon Knights
Frankenstein: Agent of Shade
Justice League Dark
I, Vampire
Resurrection Man

Those are two comics that should be avoided like the plague, and that aren't respective of the overall quality of the DC relaunch.

Sexuality as a strong trait being taken as meaning 'completely emotionless, will have sex with anyone and then completely forget about it' by Scott Lodbell.

I side with MovieBob on this one: The impressive sales figures are not so much the result of a bold new direction, but moreso because they're advertising the shit out of it. They're selling better because they're getting a lot of press outside of the usual places and reaching new people.

That being said, has anyone here read any of the new stuff? How is it?
Some of them are really good, some of them are really, really bad. Most of the big ones (like Superman, or Flash) have been surprisingly good, but there are some to avoid like the plague. II would check it scans-daily if you want to get a feel for them individually.

i think ppl just want to get in on the "Issue 1" investment, thinking it'll be worth a lot of money 30-50 years from now XD

I should pick up issue 2 as thats the one thats gonna be rare! XD

Well I have now thoroughly "investigated" said issue and I have two thoughts on the matter.

1: "RAH! Angry gender-biased depiction of Starfire is demeaning to women RAH!"

2: Damn. Is is she looking for more "friends"?

The issue ones will sell of course, for a few reasons. IT's an issue one and people think it may be valuble. (they won't be, at least, not like people are hoping) It's new and people are checking it out too is if it's any good, and it's has been advertised ALOT so there's that too. So yeah, sales will be good at first.

I personally think the lot of it is utter CRAP and won't catch on. They've changed to many "core" aspects of popular heros that people just won't except it in the long run. And i have a strong suspession they have a card up there sleaves for when that point happens, in the form of a deus ex machania of a little hooded girl that's springing up everywhere. I think, when the sales tank, and people want the "real" heros we've grown to love back, she'll play a part in "fixing" DC. Or at the very least when DC wants to go back to the old numbering scheam to cash in on the big issue numbers they AREN'T going to pass up, like action 900 and such, she'll play a role.

Part of me things this is all just a way for DC to introduce and push a new "ulitmates" line of DC books. *shug* Time will tell. But so far, I hate it.
