So I just got a steam notication...thing telling me about this.

For anyone who's played it in the past, is it worth the free 13gig download?

Whatever, just wash your hands.
Its ok, personally I liked champions online better, you had more customize options and just more freedom with your char, plus dc universe has a weirdly jerky feel to it, nothing moves quite right, but considering its free now, its hard to really go wrong with it.

Yes. It's god damn fun. Action Combat + Voice-Over quests from people who are known for the voices (Mark Hamill does The Joker, Wil Wheaten does Robin, ECT.) some great looking items and the ability to save styles and keep those as dominate looks.

Sure you can't customize your toon as much as City of Heroes or Champions Online but the action combat makes grinding a lot funner. I've tried Alerts (Dungeons) too and those are fun, if not chaotic, haven't tried Legends PvP (You take the form of a Hero / Villain and PvP as them) but it seems fun.

Just don't be surprised if A, the servers are down or B, you're in a lengthy Queue (I was up to 4k before.)

I'd give it a week, or so. Right now the thing is really clogged up. A lot of people rushing to try it. Let things die down a bit, so you can at least complete the first quest after the tutorial.

It's worth it to download and level a toon. Once you hit max level though, which doesn't take terribly long, there isn't a whole hell of a lot to do. I played it at launch and got to max level and got full epix from raiding in about 6 weeks. Then I got bored of it and haven't touched it since.

Not being able to trade amongst other things made me not even bother trying it, I can't stand the restrictions on f2p MMOs.

Looking forward to seeing if Lineage II going f2p this year does well, as it's a completely free, only pay for xp boosts and cosmetics affair apparently. That is what I'd like f2p to actually be.

I downloaded it and the PC version is 17 gb to download (!), I've already played Champions Online, but the little time I've played DC Universe, I thought it had a better combat system, at least it's better suited to play with a controller than Champions Online.

The gameplay feels similar to that of a brawler and sometimes it even feels similar to Arkham Asylum/Arkham City (especially if you pick a character based on Batman, I picked one based on Green Arrow), but sadly, at least the PC version, you'll be struggling with the lag and constant desconnections, rather than fighting with the scum of Gotham/Metropolis.

So, yes, it's worth the download, especially with the game being free and all that, but be warned, expect a lot of lag and possible desconnections.

It's fun. But I think Yahtzee said it best: 'When you're bringing out a superhero game, the first thing you should ask yourself is "It it better than City of Heroes?"'

DCUO isn't. It's got some wonderful bits, but overall it's plagued by dullness, tedium and impossibility.

City of Heroes is also free to play, contains some wonderful fights, doesn't have a ginormous queue and has a mission editor.
