Well actually, as an Australian I can say that most of those accents sounded realistic, they might be pretty broad but there are people who talk like that *cough* Queensland *cough* in this country.
from Queensland and yeah its kinda true sorry
I second that notion. Especially the more north you go. In Brisbane its not AS bad (except for the unusual some who seem to add the word 'but' at the end of sentences). If I'm honest I love the accent its so stupid and comical you cant help but have a chuckle. I imagine every nationality has this problem though.

ALTHOUGH it would be so much better if the bloke yelled out: "SO WHERE THE BLOODY HELL ARE YA?"
We're not all that bad north of Rockie. I'm from Cairns originally, and trust me, not broad.

Got family in Ayr however, and they're broader than two barns. Probably why I don't speak to them.
SHHH! The Americans and Europeans don't need to know that... I'm trying to fix our tourism industry here by making us all sound different! go along with it mate.

SO Americans and Europeans... WHERE THE BLOODY HELL ARE YA?

Also completely off topic here but I am voting for Katters Australian Party next election. He just has style.
Style yes. Substance ... eh, the man spoke at my highschool graduation. We were all bored to tears, mostly because he just WOULD NOT SHUT UP.

Some people in Australia do speak like that, so the developers obviously chose the one most people around the world associate as 'Australian'.

Stop the fucking presses... Politicians have substance? DEAR GOD! They do really need to learn when to STFU. Kinda like immigration at the moment. Less than one percent of illegals come here. We are not that popular :p I wish the government would focus on a broadband network that wont cost 9 years to make and cost me 5 grand to hook up to my house. NO MORE HALF-ARSED IDEAS!

Ummm on topic again played the game. Loved the accents. Dead Island is more humorous than everything. Every time I get heabutted by a thug I always think of the monty python black knight scene :D

Nothing can be worse than the scottish accent in wow.

It's just horrible. I mean they really couldn't find an actual scootish person that could say things like 'Keep your feet on the ground' etc.

The female dwarf one is so bad that I can't even force myself to play one...

I guess you don't really notice if you are from there...the people in dead island sound 'australian' to me but then my extent of knowledge in that area streches to 'Neighbours' and Home and Away' :| sorry op lol.

See the problem with Voice Actors tryign to do any kind of 'Australian' Accent is not where the accent comes from, but more the grammar and pronouncation behind it. Miranda from Mass Effect 2 comes close, but most 'Aussie' characters in games speak slower and clearer than a real life Aussie, due to pooftah American Dev/Pub teams making us slow down for the dumbass Americans who can't understand anything that isn't American, fake Russian or fake British.

We don't tend to open our mouths much (Lets the flies in!), we speak as quick as possible and shorten EVERYTHING! We also tend to roll words together with the talking quickly thing. I tell you this from personal experience, as I am a Queenslander with an 'Ocker' accent, similar but not as bogan or twangy as Crocodile Dundee. I've recently moved to the mid-north coast of New South Wales, to Coffs Harbour and all the local NSW-men are always telling me to slow down or repeat stuff.

If anyone wan's ta test me theory above, PM me for me skype address and I'll have a quick chat with ya about me accent an how I talk ta yous, eh? And far tha record, not all Queeslander's are 'bogan', 4.5 Million people live in tha Brisbane city dominated South-East Corner, and tha remaining 1.5 Million live in tha rest of tha state. Tha's right! We've even got CITIES in AUSTRAYA!

Canadian here, and just eugh.

Sorry, no one in America knows what we sound like. You all think you do, but I've traveled to your country any number of times and no one has ever guessed that I was from Canada. The closest I've gotten was - in the deep south - someone asking me if I was from Seattle. You know why? I sound exactly like people from Seattle. Makes sense, since I can see the Olympic Mountains from my house. There isn't some dialect-obliterating forcefield at the 49th parallel - most Canadians live less than 100 clicks from the US border and the way we speak reflects that.

This is why so many Canadians successfully invade Hollywood with none the wiser. You think a "Canadian" wander up and be all SORRY ABOOT THAT EH???? but in reality we are among you and you don't even know it ;p

Yes there are people who talk like that as I said but they are in the vast minority. I promise you that the majority of people who sound like that live in out back Australia and that's what I meant by "very very far between". And as you probably;y know 80% of Australia's population live on the east coast. and the an other 15 percent live in South Australia and Perth.
I think that could be said for every country. The 2 or 3 British accents that make it across the pond don't sound like 70% of our country either, but I don't expect other nations to be experts on UK accents/dialect. Lord knows I don't recognise the various American accents that I hear when I play an online multiplayer.

edit: Also I took that second guy for a New Zealander rather an Australian, so what do I know?

Canadian here, you all get off easy on being mis-accented, the stereotypical "Canadian" accent, is actually only present in people from Newfoundland, not Canada wide... Also, Fargo was shot in Minnesota, which has a lot of Swedish people I think, that's THEIR accent, not ours. I've actually had people get violently upset when they hear my voice online, and not touting some ridiculous accent.
Same. The only time you'll hear a GOOD Canadian Accent in a game is Mass Effect, since Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale are both Canadian. You can tell by the way they say "route" or "roof."

But no, its always "Haows it gooin' while I'm walkin' aboot wearing my tooks and drinking my Maple Syrup like a silly Canook!"

It's not that bad. The accents not remarkably common, but I've met a few people who actually speak like that, and they did a reasonably good job of imitating it.
