I didn't like it much. A single static savepoint and constant forced re-plays spoiled it for me. The actual gameplay was fun, but I think they made a lot of strange design choices that belong back in the 80's with limited continues and coin-ops.

if your a fan of films like dawn of the dead, the proper one not the crappy remake, then youll love it. at first. but when you get down to it all the enemies are dispatched the same way, its always kill stuff or find someone and kill a path back and its pretty much just that. its like an unfinished tech demo. its fun, but the novelty wears very thin quite fast.

If you like zombie killing then yes, bit annoying when you have to save people but, and this is important YOU CAN GET A KATANA...ahem, sorry had to be said.

It's fun, simple and worth it if you like repetitive sometimes funny gameplay, but the story is a huge pain in the ass though.

Yeah, I bought it because I heard really good things about it, but it was difficult to play, and the controls were sometimes unresponsive, so I'd rent before you bought it.

Oddly enough, I was having the same worries because I had recently purchased an Xbox360 and was thinking about picking it up.

The base concept of the game is really good, the visuals are astonishing in high-def, the sound is great, there are literally hundreds of zombies on-screen sometimes, and the combat is extremely well executed... most of the time. The downside, though, is that there are serious flaws (IMO, of course) in the game design.

The game is timered *and* requires leveling up to complete missions; though you can ignore the timer, if you do so you won't be able to unlock the story. This leads to unforgiving gameplay on a first run-through, or exploiting the game save system to grind through a bunch of low-level missions over and over again while accumulating XP.

Also, virtually every different action possible has a separate control scheme; walking and melee, then ranged combat, then vehicles. These schemes use radically different thumbstick operations. This makes the learning curve very irregular.

The AI is not very smart, which is acceptable for the zombies but not so much for the un-zombified.

Oh, and don't bother getting the game at all if you don't have a high-def set; you won't be able to read mission instructions unless you've got at least 720p display, and even my 26" 1080i had me squinting a bit.

There's a lot of up-side to Dead Rising (lawnmowing zombies doesn't get old, ever) but there's a lot of downside too.

I understand the complaints, but it remains one of my favorite 360 games.

So, yeah, I'd say it's worth every penny.

Its good, but i'd reccomend renting or borrowing it rather than buying it, unless you can find it cheap.

It's totally worth it! I ran it on my 360 back in the day at 480i and had a blast. The first play through will be purely for fun since you have relatively small amount of health.

The things to keep in mind is that there are stats, so it's more of a Action RPG than straight Action. The stats go up as you play, and if you die you will keep the stat upgrades that you gathered when you start over. I don't remember it being explained in the manual, but that design choice was very annoying. The only other thing is that the boss battles feel like they rely more on exploiting the game than real skill.

Bear in mind one of the real niggles of the game, you need HD or a big TV to read the text in game. It's playbale without this but I had a go a few times when I worked at a software store and it drove me nuts, although I am a massive story geek, so losing the plot to screen resolutions hurts.

It seems to be going for about £10 or so on eBay, so if you like the premise, it's probably worth a punt.

There's a demo on the XBL marketplace. Give that a shot and see what you think. There's plenty of fun to be had right there, for example, putting giant lego heads on zombies' heads and watching them stagger around disoriented.

All this reminds me, I should be keeping an eye open for a used copy on the cheap -- when my current set of games get old.

Dead Rising is definitely worth it. Don't take that to mean that it's the best game ever, or even that it's destined for greatness, but I'm sure it's no longer going for full price, and the fun it provides is certainly worth the marked-down sticker price.

At the end of the day, there really only are about three ways to play the game. Namely, you can do the main quest and try to side quest it up as much as you can, you can achievement hunt, or you can just go nuts on zombies and play with all the different mall weapons (not to mention Frank's own fighting abilities, some of which get pretty fun as you level up).

Overall, you'll probably have fun with the game as long as you're not expecting it to be more than it is, which is an accurate recreation of a Romero-esq zombie film, and it has both the good and the bad sides of that equation.

For the 15-20 bucks you can buy it for today?

Most definitely.

http://www.amazon.com/Dead-Rising-Xbox-360/dp/B000F3AADE/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1219240596&sr=8-1

I must admit i got bored after a while, but I definitely got my 30 bucks's (at the time) worth.

Dead rising is the greatest game ever made. It is so awesome, you cannot afford NOT to buy it. Playing that game was one of the most fun things I have ever done.

If you are that person who plays GTA mostly just to run about and have fun instead of doing the missions; it's for you. If you prefer to play through a story, meh.
Although, I think I saw it at gamestop last weekend for less than $10, so for that price, yeah, totally worth it.

I played it on the 360, it's a lot of fun and definitely worth a buy. The controls are crappy though, i wonder how the Wii version will (fail to)improve on them.

Lawn mowing zombies, or zombie crowd surfing never ever gets old.

Dead Rising is definitely worth it in moderation. If you want to kill zombies, this is your game. If you want to see the story watch it on the internet. There is more than one save-point, but they are usually way too far apart and have zombies waiting right outside them, so save your game with some weapons in hand. Lots of fun ways to kill zombies, especially in the North Plaza, unfortunately you have to slug through the story to unlock that area.

Anyway, I sold this game but recently repurchased it when I saw it's now an "Xbox Classic" or whatever you call it and now only $20. For that price it's worth it.

Also, as cool as the katana is, it breaks way too easy, so the fun is short lived. I prefer the post-digger, which has a disproportionately sized gas tank and uses zombies as flails. It will go through plenty (skewering at least 4) of zombies before it runs out. Unfortunatly, it is in the aforementioned North Plaza, and you have to fight a psycho to make the store where you find it safe (yes, you can run past him, but it's easier to kill him so you don't have to dodge grenades on the way to fresh weaponry).
