This is a review that i came across on my pc a little bit ago. Its Dead Rising, its pretty clinical, but it gets the point across.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dead Rising is an action adventure developed by Capcom. Some people have knocked it off as something to keep people occupied until Resident Evil 5 comes out. They are talking crap, this game is unique as any other and is definitely not Resident Evil, in fact it is possibly the most important Zombie game of 2006.

The main protagonist is called Frank, a photojournalist who has come to a mall in Willamette, Colorado, soon finding out the mall is being stormed by zombies. Frank can do just about anything from the start, such as choosing to discover whats going on, rescue survivors or just go on a mad killing spree.

No matter what the decision, the game offers so much; Frank can take photos which, help raise his level through a PP system adding a RPG aspect to the game. He can also earn PP by killing zombies, doing scoops or completing cases. On the topic of scoops/cases they are received via a transceiver.

This transceiver can however be a burden, as sometimes it rings at inappropriate times like when getting mauled by zombies. The save element in the game is also a burden, saving needs to be timed correctly as all cases and scoops are timed. Making sure to get to them in time is important, especially cases as missing the deadline means replaying the game again from the start to find out the story. This is because the save system only allows one save at any time.

The controls are easy to use, others not so easy. When attacking in 3rd person its simply just pressing RT constantly, However in 2nd person especially with guns, it becomes more difficult as aiming requires holding RT to fire whilst moving the crosshair with LT, by which time the zombies are already attacking. The games HUD is understandable, when using a weapon for some time, it will flash meaning it wont last much longer. Health is measured by orange blocks, which when they gray out means having to search for food to regain health, making it realistic in its own sense.

The games graphics are pretty good. The detail on humans and zombies is amazing; on the humans they have all sorts of facial features such as wrinkles and unique dress sense. On the zombies they have decaying faces followed by individual features such as missing eyes. The surroundings are a little repetitive sometimes however. The sounds and music are good. There is some voice acting and some written dialogue all pretty decent, whilst the game accompanies Frank on his travels with eerie music followed by the moans and groans of the zombies and the screams of the survivors.

Dead rising is a truly unique game; there is so much to do. There are multiple endings to see and once they have all been seen, there are other unlockables such as the survival mode. This all adds more replay value to Dead Rising. Its really worth the buy!

Not quite sure I understand the rating system you use. If a higher number means a better score, then why does it get low scores in everything but then come out with an overall of 83%?

And if the numbers all add up to each other to describe the overall game, then why do they not add up to 100%?

Also, if you are going to use somebody else's work, please cite your source. Other then that, it was an okay reveiw. To short for my taste, it just did not seem to touch on enough about the game to make me care. Since it is not your work, I can't give you advice on making it better. But in the future, if you are going to post a review by somebody else, please make sure it is a bit more thought provoking and of higher quality.

Bottom line, if this was the only reveiw I saw for the game, It would not influance my dicision on buying it one way or another.

I imagine the maximum awesomeness each category could gain would be 25%. The game is not perfect, so therefore it does not receive 100% overall.

A little research would go a long way in this article. For example, which other zombie games was DR competing with in 2006? You compare it to RE but never give us any examples as to why it's a unique experience. In short, you could expand on a lot of stuff that you mentioned only briefly. Also, I love you for not trying to be funny. That is all.

As a review it did the job. The rating system is unique.

As a fan of Dead Rising I enjoyed the review, you touched down on most of the important things but failed to mention stuff like the bosses or the weird comedy that finds its way into Dead Rising.

All in all a good review, keep it up.

It is nice to see a slightly po-faced review once in a while. As a matter of personal taste I'd say your rating system is asking for trouble, though. What's 'game layout' exactly? Does that stretch to level design, or is that under gameplay? I think it all tries to make too fine a science of something profoundly subjective: are you sure the sound wasn't 21%? Or maybe 23%?

Do you think sound and gameplay should be evenly weighted, 25% apiece? The fact that graphics and sound are two categories, adding up to a maximum 50% of potential score, seems a bit excessive. I prefer to think of sound and graphics, even force feedback, as combining to form some sort of GameTrailers style 'presentation' uber-category: splitting it into it's constituent bits and bytes seems counter-productive.

But, yeah. Personal taste. Good to see a whole review without a single 'the [something] are like a [large unwieldy animal] bouncing on a [pogo stick/trampoline/hobo] whilst snorting [illegal substance of your choice]' strangled bastard metaphor. Kudos.

This was the game that convinced me to buy an xbox 360. Thank you, Deadrising, you are a wonderful, yet misunderstood, and very deep game. I would like to mention that although the game focuses on the zombies as the enemy, the bosses are people who have gone nuts without rule. When I watched The Mist, I was reminded of this game, what's outside is dangerous but humans are an erratic and aggressive species, capable of unspeakable horrors in the right situation.

Decent review. Most of the critisism has already been mentioned.

But, on topic with dead rising, what a cool game. Granted, I havent gotten very far, and actually screwed up the ending more times than I could count, but playing what is essentially a dawn of the dead game is great. My cousin actually managed to get in the top 10 for surviving in the mall on the leaderboards.

Then you might want to find a better way to start it off. Saying "I came across it on my PC a little bit ago" implies that you found it on the web. At any rate, sorry for the misunderstanding, but I still stand by what I say. If you are going to make a reveiw, then please make it a bit more in-depth.

I'm going to think of this as a pilot for future reviews from you. while there are a few (easy to fix) flaws, it is good enough to expect more high-quality reviews in the future, and I look forward to them.

I bought a 360 for this too and I regret nothing, Its an amazing game. That said that bloody Otis and every other survivor that I had to rescue will remain as one of my greatist gaming nemisisis. (How many is'es am I ment to add for that word to work?)
