Dead Space 2, what did you think?

So I just finished Dead Space 2 last night (the marker kicked my ass until I broke and bought another weapon) and I would like to know what you all thought of it.

I had heard a lot of bad impression of it in the weeks leading up to its release like how "it's not a horror game" or "it's not scary" or *shudder* "it's not Resident Evil" and I was wondering that if you don't like it, are these your reasons?

Cause it seems to me that I wouldn't want this game to be Resident Evil (a series I hate (BTW not saying it's bad, just that I don't like it personally)) and I don't think that's what they were going for anyway.

In real life the Necromorphs would not try and be creepy, they would just come after you en mass, like in the game. I thought that it was done really well, that the Necromorphs behaved exactly how I'd expect hungry mindless space zombies to behave.

Aside from that I loved Isaac's story, the improvements in both setting and mechanics, and generally thought it a great step up from the first, which I adore and have played at least 3 times now.

So that's it from me, what did you think?

I think that it probably suffered from EA's ill-thought out marketing campaign, that it really missed the point. Was it over the top gory? Yes. Did it add anything to the game? Not really, but I don't think it took much away.

As for the controls on PC, I never played it on the platform. Plus I suck at PC gaming anyway lol.

It was ...boring. I liked the whole hallucinations idea and the ending was rather good or at least I enjoyed it but it wasn't nearly as "visceral" as EA advertised. Not that that comes as a surprise.

It just wasn't special. Just another gory shooter. It wasn't that bad, it wasn't good.

It was a really fun shooter with a more the decent story.

People will complain it wasn't scary, and it's not. It's really fun if you just sit down and want to play a fun game. Honestly even in the first game the scares weren't from subtly, it was from "Oh crap oh crap oh crap oh crap oh crap!" moments that continued to exist in the sequel.

It was a fun and awesome sequel, well worth the money, and I'm looking forward to when severed comes out.

Exactly what I thought.

How many times did I find myself out of ammo and slugging at the hordes, screaming "OH CRAP CRAP CRAP!"

Well I don't think its doing a good job at drawing me in to play it, seeing as I played for about... 5 minutes. Then I popped the disk out and left it on my shelf for the past week.

I really should go back to it sometime.

As a survival horror it was superb, and playing on Survivalist is the only way to play for true DS fans ^^
God damn I hate Nicole though

I thought it was a great game, and the guy that voices Isaac deserves some recognition for the fantastic job he did. All the voice acting was solid stuff, but his stood out.

Plus it gave me the line gun, and I cannot hate a game with the line gun in it.

And those sodding raptors that actually managed to kill me the first time we fought. Actually, my only, one disappointment, was the uebermorph. His counterpart in the first game was better executed, in my opinion. However, DS2 is far better for actually making the 'you're an engineer' at least a little relevant, and shaking things up from just endless dark corridors was a huge improvement. I wasn't convinced in the first few hours of game (where the story is sparse and I was still expecting it to try and be a horror game) but once I acclimatised to the fact that it was trying to be an action game with major suspense elements, it all clicked and I had great fun.

I have not played it yet. I did watch my brother play through it though. It looked awesome, they did a great job with the voice acting and characters. Also the lighting was really good.

It was a decent shooter with good gameplay and generic characters. Not much else to say.

Fun but dumb. Nothing special.

Some good visual design. Story and characters were absolute drivel, that is to say, pretty much standard for video games. Fun action, although a little repetitive. Absolutely zero horror value. Didn't even startle me, let alone induce fear, dread or tension.

Oh, and I loved the AI behaviour on the Raptors. It actually felt a bit like being stalked and hunted. I was impressed that they managed to do that without heavy scripting.

4.5/10, assuming 5 is average.

I liked it, the gameplay (read "using the Plasma Cutter") was fun enough to warrent another playthrough.

As for the scares i'm pretty sure they go for the "I have no ammo and this FUCKING door is taking the piss to open!" horror route rather than the traditional one

I swear those doors are mocking me...

I really liked it. Much more varied than Dead Space 1, I found it more disturbing, and the death animations made me look away from the screen at points. The story was improved, the action more tense and I have made a new enemy - Hardcore mode.
