I had a bloody great time playing this game, I also played it 2 or 3 times (as I did with the 1st game). I agree that the game has rather cheap scares (you know, the "you know it's hiding in the closet and waiting to jump at you" type scare), but those are the kind of things that I enjoy. If there is one thing I hate about this game, it's the use of children. Children already piss me off/ creep me out, but then they made into necromorphs. I must say that it felt lacking in some areas that I can't quite put my finger on, but overall I loved it as much, if not more than I did the first.

i personally believe that the ones who claim it wasn't scary probably did try hard core or zealot without a new game + because no game is scary when u have a fully upgraded rig plasma cutter and statis within the first 30 minutes of the game (I did this on my second play through and it felt like i was on easy which is why i tried zealot without a new game and then hard core)

op: I liked it besides it having newer ideas hallucinations and actually letting you move around in space the jetpacks/boosters there could have been a more variety of weapons but then again what would u expect to be on space city. Otherwise it was good not absolutly amazing but good

After never being interested in it before I picked up a copy the other day and was surprised, as a horror game it pretty much falls flat on it's face but as an action game it is really good, so it was quite a pleasant surprise. I've not played the first either btw.

I remember watching a Qore episode on Dead Space 2, one of the representatives said something along the lines of, "We really want to get into the core of horror, into your mind," and then followed with the host participating in a jump scare (she stood around alone for a few seconds, then the rep jumped up behind her). So, yeah, I called complete bullshit on the "horror" aspect.

From what little I've played of the game (I borrowed it from a friend), it does have it's moments. Some parts are genuinely disturbing, and the atmosphere of the game really gets you into it. It's just that they rely on cheap, jump scares and only delve into Issac's psyche, not the player's.

I greatly enjoyed the original Dead Space, and at times it did disturb me. I look forward to what Dead Space 2 will offer me.

Also, fuck whoever made the air ducks fail randomly towards the beginning. That shit terrified me, and not for the right reasons dammit!

I thought it was a great shooter with some excellent setpieces and entertaining combat thanks to great enemies and fun weapons. It wasn't scary in the least, but it was fairly atmospheric at some points. The overall plot wasn't particularly good, but the universe was well realised and the characters were likeable, well acted, and had decent chemistry. More varied environments and enemies along with improvements to zero-G movement, waypoints, melee attacks and environmental weapon use make it a clear improvement over the original.

Pretty high replay value for the main game. Multiplayer is nothing special and will have even less longevity than the main game for most players, but it's still pretty good fun the first few times around.

Yeah, as a horror game it wasn't scary at all. But it was TENSE at times. Mostly towards the end, the machine for extracting memories in particular. That gave me a cold sweat the first time. Then I had to do it like 50 times so it kind of lost its chilling effect.

I liked it, but yeah, it was not scary,( I don't count it scary when someone jumps out of window screaming x 100), but it was really intense.

Having played through the first game I wasn't very impressed but I showed to a mate of mine who loved it. He decided to buy the second game I decided to give it another chance but for me, Dead Space 2 was a bigger failure than the first game

It's an "okay" 3rd person shooter with some horror-elements. It's about as scary as Resident Evil 5 (By that I mean that childrens TV is scarier), and rather than focusing on atmosphere (the thing I belived they would make a big priority in a game called DEAD SPACE) they make it a action game with monsters.
My opinion: If you want horror try Amnesia. That is some scary shit.

The game was quite good in my opinion, not scary but it managed to keep me busy.

Impaling monsters with broom´s is awesome.

i thoroughly enjoyed it, well worth the cost (that's Aus cost, not your Cheap US price) everything was more from the sequel, like the map guidance, the variety of environments, the handling of zero G, etc. But i know its not really scary, just really suspenseful action which i liked, also (maybe SPOILER! - using a dead guys ragdoll for a DNA scan is just pure win :D ) but i will say they went a bit to far with a very sharp object minigame.

I really enjoyed it. So did my mother, THOSE LYING EVIL CORPORATIONS! *shakes fist in mock rage*

She was actually sitting next to me telling me to stamp off the head of each one I killed, because "that's what I would do, its not like i'd want them coming back for me is it?".

Good times all around, great fun if you're not to stuck up to enjoy it/

I personally liked it. I like the mythos, I like the gameplay, and while I don't find it scary I was entertained by it. The Hunter at the end was slapped on, but otherwise everything fit into place. I kinda felt like the first game was supposed to be horror because Isaac was encountering an unknown hostile force, but in the second one the Necromorphs were a familiar enemy and it was his personal demons that were the real focus. But once again, when judging games, I judge on two factors: was it fun, and did it make me want to replay it? Both counts were a yes.

You in Australia really do get the short end of the gaming stick. Wish your government wasn't so anal on entertainment. Same for mine, but yours is worse.

I got the Collector's Edition. I accidentally ripped the nice box and the gun was meh(I like it but it's not well-made. I expected articulation of more than those twin flappy things!), but the soundtrack and the Move port of Extraction made the extra $20 USD worth it. That and the extra unlockables...

I loved it. It wasn't scary at all, but it was damned fun. I'm currently on Chapter 13 in my 2nd playthrough.
