I just need to know from anyone else to justify my position here. I keep trying to play dead space and I just cant get into it. The Visuals are great, the story from what i saw was ok, But the controls...they kill me. I cant play dead space because It feels like I'm turning around in a bowl of pudding.
All the controls feel slow and weak. It just breaks my immersion and makes the game hard to play for me. Maybe its my computer I dont know but the mouse lag is just impossible.

Try turning up the mouse sensitivity, and turning off V-synch. If that doesn't do it, then you have either A. a misguided attempt to increase the horror, or B. a badly implemented feature.

this can be solved very easily
Step#1 Turn off the Computer
Step#2 Buy the Xbox version
Step#3 Enjoy

I loved both games. I barely felt lag at all, and when I did, it just felt like I was trying to maneuver in a bulky mining suit.

From what I can tell the sluggish mouse controls in the original Dead Space was never fixed. There's a couple of things you could do (stuff already mentioned in the thread) but it will always feel off.

The mouse controls in Dead Space 2 is much improved. I can't figure why they couldn't get the original to feel like DS2.

Wait, why would you buy the game again? A steam version isn't going to change anything.

I am a huge Dead Space fan. All you really need to do is set the options to your liking until it's perfect. However, I suggest you get the game for ether PS3 or Xbox 360. Along those lines, Dead Space 2 is a few times better then Dead Space, fixing the problems you're encountering now. Hope the advise helps!
He could just plug in a gamepad to his PC, no need to get a Xbox or PS3 version.

psychic psycho: i Borrowed the xbox game from a friend, and i played the pc one on a friends laptop when he was staying with me on his vacation. I coudnt enjoy either due to the controls.

I enjoy consoles and pc games, ill play both with no problems. But i prefer my pc since i can just look something up if it bothers me and i can usually tweak the game more.

The story is pretty shithouse. The gameplay is fine on console (Don't have PC)...but this game is not scary. After the first dead body on the ground jumps at you...well, you see where that is going. There is no sense of terror in this game. You will always have your stomp and guns.

Now...take those away like Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners and Amnesia and it's a whole different story.

I played it on console and couldn't get into it because of the controls. Which is unfortunate because I wanted to play it pretty bad.

Deadspace 1 on PC was ported with shit controls and no options to fix it. I believe their fix was "plug a controller in" which is what I wound up doing.

Well Isaac isn't an elite space marine or anything, he's an engineer in a heavy suit, using clunky mining tools as makeshift weapons, the controls should feel a bit heavy and slow. I played it on ps3 and never had any issue with the controls or anything, although a friend of mine who played it on PC says the controls were terrible. In general I really liked the game, its not too scary but the sound and atmosphere are great. Dead space 2 is a lot better though.

Isaac is a bit slow, but I wouldn't go as far to say clunky or unresponsive. He's an average joe, and most people would be in the same physical condition he is. It makes sense, and it supports the attempt to create horror. Its absolutely nothing compared to games like Resident Evil though. He's slow, but the controls respond, and you don't have to press three different buttons or keys to move forward, and you can really get used to them pretty soon, to where it feels a bit natural.
