Pandorum with less cast and more limb loss. I guess I could go for that. It wouldn't be something I rush to the theater to see but I would watch it on the movie channel, or maybe buy it on bluray if it happened to come out around Halloween and wanted something new for an annual movie night with my sister.

Hell, as long as they cast Gunnar Wright as Isaac, I'm chill with it. Well, and sticking to the basic premise would be nice as well, of course.
This. If Isaac is going to be in it they need Gunner Wright. He is the VA and face model after all.

Dead Space is nothing like Event Horizon oh wait, a horror movie that plays in space, gotta be the same then.
Maybe I'm even wrong and there's a Marker and Necromorphs in EH? And the Church and Planet Cracking?
Afair, the Event Horizon was something like a planet cracker before it got lost. Not sure, though, and I won't do research because this is fucking unimportant. Nobody goes around saying "DS is like Alien, only with more gore" because atmosphere and characters are so different. Not so much with Event Horizon...

Im not sure whether to be exicted or repulsed...

If it did get made into a movie it would just become the new Saw series.

Need more details... more...

I'm actually a pretty big fan of Dead Space so I take this as really good news in favor of movies I want to see later on. Hopefully though, they'll not alter it to not relate to the game as well as look into it and play the game multiple times (I sure did lol). Please pull it off, for if Dead Space as a movie isn't worth the watch then I will literally feel that our future movie industry has let us down.. no offense.
I was just like you once. So naive and so carefree. That was until IT HAPPENED.....I am a big fan of Devil May Cry and when I heard the news that movie was in the making I jumped for joy. That was....*Dramatic Pause*..Until I found out who would be producing it.

*Tosses a copy of the Resident Evil Triology to you* The monsters who defaced Resident Evil are now taking shots at Devil May Cry...I have no hope....I no longer have the Dante I know and love.....I have...Nothing

*Spotlight focuses and fades on me*

It wouldn't be a bad movie...but..I have to ask, how old are his kids? Dead Space is a rated M game (Or 18+ if you live outside the states), there is no way they can be old enough to play it. And I could also challenge his kids claim of it being the scariest game ever. Only thing to ever make me jump in it was a single flashback. Everything else is a confusion between scary and gore.
Err, in this country it is 16. I checked the box, in the manual, everything said 16.

And the idea behind dead space is good movie material, nothing new but if it wasn't so stupidly done (like the still admittedly fun game was) then it could be a good horror movie me thinks.

America has it as a 17+ game and almost everywhere else is an 18+ and Mr. Caruso lives in Connecticut.

*Claps to you for displaying such an amazing act which I then realize what you meant* ...Crap! That seriously sucks for me then.. and I actually saw Resident Evil Triology.. the movie literally was horrible (no offense). Made Resident Evil games shuned due to the movie if you ask me. I'm a big fan of Resident Evil so I seriously know what you mean and if they are directing Devil May Cry.. *shivers* ...Aahhh..that will be a 50/50 for me to go see it.
I'm not going to lie, I did at least Enjoy Afterlife...only if they focused more on the Zombie killing and more Badass Wesker parts then I'd certainly love it. But I had to see it because let's face it. Wesker is awesome.

And here is proof :D These are 2 videos where they actually get the guy who voiced Albert Wesker from Resident Evil 5 (DC Douglas) to do some parody videos with them.

Thank-you ultra-leftwing Inefficient South African government! And this time I'm not being sarcastic :D Because I know for a fact that it I bought and have it now a 16 game, so yay me?

But a Dead Space movie will most definitely turn out to be huge crap.
I doubt they'd put in enough of a budget to make the settings authentic enough and god, probably the writer doesn't even play Dead Space.

Just look at the pathetic piece of crap that is the 2 animated movies. Disgusting, and not in the way Dead Space 2 should be :/
I thought there were some neat design aesthetics that carried over between the appearance of the Event Horizon and Ishimura. Beyond that, I've got nothing. Event Horizon always struck me as being more of a near future take on WH40k, which Dead Space is definitely not.

It needs scenes where the main character is weaponless and has to run for their lives from something that even WE cannot see.

Although I LOVE Isaac Clarke (He is possibly one of my favorite characters in a game), I feel that we could give the "Gabe Weller" treatment for the Dead Space movie, make the main character someone else. Like in the second level of Dead Space 2, you see two people running away from half a puker who was the wifes mother, you cannot follow them because a necromorph comes out of the wall and knocks you down. Make a movie about two civilians, not experts, who have to get to a shuttle and escape.
The best thing about Dead Space is not that you are not an invincible guy in awesome looking power armor, you're an Engineer in awesome looking armor that still makes you vulnerable.

Make the first 20 minutes of the movie something along the lines of showing life on the sprawl, showing the universe to new comers and introducing characters.

Then make the necromorphs appear, but do it subtley until the end when the Brute gets to rip the main characters wife in half.

I am no director but thats how I'd do it for the first act of the movie.

as long as they aren't making it like they are with the Uncharted movie

okay that's not technically fair since we don't know yet if the movie will actually suck (we can only guess and speculate) but ah well Uwe Boll is just too easy a target/comparison)

Based on his track record... might be getting a Shia Lebouf - Isaac Clarke... *shudders*

Might work if they go with the silent Isaac in Dead Space 1....

...And it wouldn't be horror.. it'd be a dumb Hollywood action flick.

I actually think a Dead Space movie would be scarier than the actual game. The concept behind Dead Space is terrifying. An alien life form that drives you insane, then brings back the dead in mounds of walking flesh in order to make more of itself. And remember, there is no defense against this thing. If, or rather when, you get infected, that's it. Unless you manage to get away, and even then you're not safe.

There will need to be more characters, because if it just starts out with Isaac, we know that he can't die so there will be no suspense in the movie. We can't get a clear look at the Necromorphes for at least half of the movie, but we will need to see their handy work and hear them. Not sure if including the babies is a good idea though. And please, for the love of movie making, NO SHAKING CAMERA WHILE RUNNING. I'm so tired of movie cameras trying to portray the panic and chaos of what's happening simply by acting like someone is running with the camera. No no no no.

It'd just be bloody Event Horizon 2! Making a movie of a game that takes many cues from horror classics? Full circle here we come!

Reminds me of the Kane and Lynch movie; they're making a film based on a game inspired by Heat and Collateral, what's the point? Just get blind drunk and watch those two instead!

If they could combine The Thing, Pandorum and Alien into a movie and call it Dead Space I might be entertained. However, for now I will remain quietly skeptical and enjoy one of my favorite game IPs of this generation.

So they'll make a film full of jump scares and ridiculous gore? Sounds like every other cliched horror movie being produced right now. IT'S NOT SCARY.

Plus if they really follow the game, then as soon as Isaac gets a weapon the film will lose all of its terror. Oh shit a monster, blast, it's dead, rinse repeat.

Plus as many have already said, Pandorum has already been made, I can only imagine a Dead Space movie being very similar to that.
