This is how a lot of school interprete the No-Tolarance Policy that was put in place after Columbine

On a side note I've been looking for a good place to use this...

What bugs me is that nobody was bothered by this. But a teacher felt that somebody, somewhere might consider it inappropriate and did this in order to placate that nobody.

Some people can't even form real sentences at the age of 3. This kid is using complex dexterity with his hands.

Also, a school completely flips out over nothing and makes themselves look like total clowns for our amusement?

Yeah can't say I'm suprised to hear this, despite it's stupidity. I'm trying to think of another country that would actually do something like this....having a real hard time coming up with results.

Please tell me this story isn't serious.

Edit: Oh it's serious.
Well it IS the United States... And Nebraska IS a Republican state... So I wouldn't be so surprised they're actually serious.

Signing is a dying language. Just like those of the Native Americans. Schools in this country train you to be complacent.

I am more impressed that a 3-year-old already knows how to do this in the first place. Most kids his age who can hear can't even pronounce their names correctly.
They teach one year olds sign language in most daycare programs specifically because it is easier than pronouncing the proper words

Well that's kind of neat. I never knew that. Granted it kind of makes sense considering how much easier it is for children to pick up languages than it is for adults.

I could have understood it if it was an offensive gesture, but that it looks like a gun. I could understand it if it looked as if he was flipping someone off though that would be retarded too. However a gun. His fingers look like a gun. So it can create chaos because a 3 year old makes an official sign part of the sign language and people get scared?

I'm not sure if I should laugh or punch something.

Yes, let's make a big political shit storm out of this for no reason. Besides, Nebraska has more Republicans than Democrats last time I checked, and the story makes NO mention of either, so if anything, you should be blaming the right-wing for this. Or at least, it would be slightly less stupid to blame the right-wing rather than the left for this.

Better yet: don't blame the left or right. This isn't a political issue; it's stupid people being stupid. Don't read into it any more than that.

I think that kid might be making threatening gestures. >.> Excuse me, I need to recalibrate my faith in humanity.

I would kind of understand if it was say a middle finger or something that looks offensive. But a fucking gun? I made my hands into guns all the time at school, it was even a christian school, they didn't stop me.

Score one for team stupid! I really hope they get over this as let's face it anything can be made into a gun when it comes to kids.

I hope the internet doesn't focus on this story or all the school district will see will be a mountin of these sorts of pictures.

who cares what it looks like, that sign has been around longer then these idiots have been 'overly sensitive' well every thing, cept teaching, or preventing bullying ....

that and fact that this teacher, who is WORKING WITH THE DEAF and can't tell the difference between a finger gun and the sign, is proof enough some one is asleep at the wheel

PC movement is all liberal Democrats though... We Republicans have a conservative interpretation of the Constitution, and since it says we have freedom of speech, we feel we should be able to say whatever the hell we want.

Oh man, this is fucking hilarious. I haven't even read through the thread yet, but I have no doubt it'll be full of indignant individuals acting far more taken aback than what the situation probably warrants. Political finger points will also abound, most likely. Stuff like this is hardly worth a cursory glance, imo. It'll no doubt resolve itself quickly enough. Before anyone says anything, I'd agree that an overly PC school board is no doubt reflective of a serious problem this country faces, but I think there are far bigger fish to fry, and they're probably swimming in a different lake. This incident just happens to be a somewhat novel one that embodies a special kind of idiocy where policy clashes with common sense, thus the attention it has drawn. This isn't evil people trying to overtake our freedom, it's just people being overly observant of the rules already in place.

Y'see people, his is the kinda shit that happens when you build a country on "freedom" as a principle, think about it, how far are you going to go to protect everyone else's freedom, like the freedom to not see something their namby pamby ass retarded sensibilities might be offended by?
Rather than growing a pair and just realizing that people sometimes get offended by retarded things, that make nobody else uncomfortable and moving on, they build on fear, the biggest mind control drug known to our race, as we don't even have to feed it to people, we just have to make their mind wander into the territory associated with it and BAM, they're afraid and willing to give up some more freedoms to protect some freedoms that don't even exist, I mean would you really give up freedom of expression so that you could comfortably live as a slave?

Fuck, even Canada is a decent way along that road, and Canada is one of the free-est places you can live, as long as you don't equate harming people as freedom, but that's common sense.
