As a Medic, just pray your allies get him before he gets you. Medics really don't do well against any enemies so the response to pyros is the same as most any class.
Blutsauger medics destory pyros, often because the pyro will follow the medic, allowing the medic to heal himself by shooting the pyros, negating the burn damage.
Smart pyros will just light the Blutsauger medic on fire and retreat.

But as any support class they are fairly well death once they are in range of you.
Unless you're an Enforcer spy (who can aim).

I've only played on PS3, and its been years since I've done that. Not ever having the air blast was probably the single greatest FU PS3 players got from EA.

When I played though I was usually pyro, but I would swap classes all the time. I hated playing medic, and especially soldier and demo. The only people that played those classes were total dbags usually that did NOTHING but spam bomb default spawn points in 2 fort when they weren't doing it from inside them lol. They would also get pissed that anyone on either team even thought about going for the intel.

Anyways to all those that say the best way to counter a pyro is to keep your distance, I wish I had a tally of how many people I killed with my shotty. Sure you get near me, you get enfuego. You run away, or even get cute by going underwater, you get riddled with buckshot.

The axe was useless to me, and from what little I've read about it in the "real version" its still pretty useless.

As much as I'm tempted to get TF2 now that its free, and I could finally play without all the glitches/with airblast, I probably won't for several reasons.

I've never liked playing FPS with mouse and keyboard aside from the original Doom because it was simple enough to do. I don't really even wanna contemplate snipers with 100% pixel accurate headshots just by clicking on my head lol.

not to mention the jar o pee and other wacky weapons/hats etc. that seem to have really gotten in the way of what used to be a pretty straightforward fun game.

Deep down though...I burn to finally be able to blow away those damn sticky bombs. They haunt me <(v_v,<)

If you're unlucky enough to be in the pyros face.. just Melee him. No point running from him if he locks onto you (specially if he has the backburner). If you're lucky enough to kill him early, you have the chance to find a health pack to put out the flames.

I have yet to see pyro who can outsmart bullit

simply shoot them and after a while they drop dead and if you are playing engineer stay with your sentry.
also KEEP DISTANCE their main weapon is the flame thrower and it has a pretty shitty reach walk backwards and switch to your secondary weapon (or in the scout,s case primary)

easy counter... although i generally play scout, sniper, soldier or heavy. Really not a strong class, generally pyro is only decent in ambushes and for breaking up attacks. Still, I greatly respect a score chart-topping pyro, hard class to play well.

Sentries, Miniguns or explosives. Jarate also works very well.

Pyros usually come in two flavours. Suicide Flamers and Ambushers.

Suicide flamers are the "W+Left Mouse" variety, where you just back off and pepper them.
Ambushers can be dealt with by unloading explosives into doorways you're going to go past.

And if you've got a good spy, Dead Ringers REALLY annoy Pyros.

I know it seems stupid to suggest this, but a spy, if played well enough, can take them out pretty easily. Just like the Pyro's job is to ambush, if you sneak up on them, and ambush them, you can take them out easily. If not that, Medic and Heavy combo should do the trick...

What is the escapist's tf2 server called or tagged, because it isn't popping up in search?

Nobody's ever on it anyways, which I find to be very sad indeed.
Servers are
American: alpha.tf2.escapistmagazine.com:27015 [steam://connect/alpha.tf2.escapistmagazine.com:27015]
European: uk.tf2.escapistmagazine.com:13013 [uk.tf2.escapistmagazine.com:13013]
Notification Group: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/EscapistTF2
Chat Group: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/The-Escapist-Team-Fortress-2-Group-PC

Obviously we alone can't keep it filled 24/7, but there's often a group of people on it, and more tend to arrive once the server reaches four or more.

If there's any ever problems, let Danny Ocean, Wordsmith, The Root Of All Evil(me), Dazz or Caliostro know.

The new Demoknight is a complete counter to the pyro. More powerful weaponry, and if you charge you get either contact or a crit, at the least a closer. If he punts you back, you keep your charge meter now.

Then, once he dies, you regain your health back by picking up his flamethrower, which is probably instantaneous if you scored the killing blow. This healing effect douses your flame and restores practically everything he did to you while he was alive.

I love playing Pyro because it is so damn fun, but honestly, they are probably the weakest class. Even at extreme close range, a Heavy usually wins, and a good shotgun blast can match a flamethrower. Pyro is good at spychecking, so that's a legitimate problem, but engineer? Put sentry against something that the Pyro can't sneak up on, and whats the Pyro going to do? The medic pretty much relies on others for offense anyways. Honestly, if a Pyro is playing in such a way that it seems like there is no counter, what you should do if drop your keyboard and mouse and slow clap into your mic, because that Pyro is one clever, cunning bastard.
Anyone who despairs about the pyro being useless should watch this guy.

Hear hear! A good Pyro can really ruin your day. The class has the same problem as Snipers; lots and lots of crappy people play it, giving it a crappy image. A good player however... I mean, it can completely troll any explosives-based class, and thus protect their teammates as well, and is fantastic versus Ubers, which that video doesn't show. Really, Pyros are amazing when played well.

Also, the music really makes the video.

As for myself, I usually do pretty well versus Pyros when I play Heavy. I try to make sure they can only attack me in a cone in front of me so that they can't ambush me in the back. The Minigun then makes short work of them before their flamethrower can get into range.

Heavy and a Medic, best combination of fuckuppery in the world, ever.
Except when facing a good Sniper. Screwing up Heavy-Medic combos, it's a good job mate.

Medic is basically the hard counter to Pyro.
His needlegun anyways.

Pretty much every class can kill a Pyro unless hes amazingly good.

Demoman - Stickies/Nades
Soldier - Rockets/Shotgun
Pyro - Shotgun
Engineer - Sentry + Shotgun
Spy - Revolver owns them (Aim not included).
Heavy - Self explained
Sniper - Jarate + Bushwacka = intant pyro kill, if not, then run.
Medic - Needlegun
Scout - Pistol, Shotgun, or quickbat easily.

That is all.

You forgot backpedal with flamethrower for Pyro V Pyro

OT:Well some Pyros can only M1+W so those are really easy to kill. The better ones that can use Secondary fire will require careful aiming or use a bullet based weapon. If you are Pyro V Pyro do not charge. What you should do is run backwards while letting the other guy run into your flames.

I mostly play as heavy and i don't find pyros to be a problem, just shoot them before they come close.
