Yeah, I kind of went that route, but I snapped out of it when I listened to one of my favorite albums, "Sex, Love, and Rock n' Roll" by Social Distortion. I just needed some Punk Rock to remind me things aren't that bad.
Not sure if this song will work for you, but it makes me feel better.
I'm feeling better now already, but I enjoyed the song, so thanks!

"There is no emotion, there is peace.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge
*line forgotten*
There is no chaos, there is harmony.
There is no death, there is the force."

....yes, I seriously run the Jedi oath through my head. Perhaps it's just the recitation of something well-known and/or significant to the user, that brings order and calm.

Music, friends, video games and TV/Film

Basically do something you enjoy doing, it'll take away that stress.

Listen to music, play video games. actually sometimes I just kinda walk around the house with my wooden sword being angry(I can't afford a metal one or I'd use that). Reading helps. Talking to friends helps. but honestly, the thing that helps me the most is getting away from the world. I go into my room, or better yet out in to the woods somewhere, throw some of my favorite tunes on my headphones and just ignore everything for a few hours. it works pretty well for me. gets me through.

First let me commend you on the awesome DBZ kai avatar.

Second, it sounds like you have a lot of pent up energy, also it seems like you want a sense of freedom.

I guess for now, I say take a nice walk, but try to go places you don't usually go and travel by new paths. Usually new-found curiosity brings alongside new-found optimism. If you really feel stressed, just run, I doesn't matter where, just go where you feel, and let out all of your energy.

When you get home just plop yourself anywhere. You'll likely be tired, take a nap or watch TV, don't try overthink your life, just relax.
Yeah, I do a lot of walking, normally outside in the woods. I love nature, but it doesn't seem to love me, I have super pale skin so I get sunburnt easily and bugs seem to be very attracted to me, so one hour outside and I have a thousand bug bites (I guess I should get some spray or something, lol).

Also, thanks, Cell with a DS, it's just too awesome. It came from an ad for a DS game, the screen cap is the best thing that came out of Kai (And I really enjoy Kai).

Jedi stuff tends to make it worse for me, damn Yoda and his "Do or do not, there is no try". Well, how the hell am I suppose to do if I haven't tried?

So Escapist community, how do you guys and gals deal with stress?
Stress is a very personal thing, just try to get away from what's stressing you out. In my case, it'd be a lonely walk up a mountain or just sitting around out my back garden taking in the fresh air.

For you... just lay out a solid plan for both a good or bad turn of events and rest well until you reach the point where you have to use one of the plans, okay?

I wouldn't know how to help, as I'm a new father on a psych pension having to give up on having an income, any social life and all the things I used to do to cope with my old stressful life...
Ouch, looks like you need help for more than I do.

Right now the plan is just to try again if I mess stuff up. If I fail my driving test I'll just have to wait a month to try again. I'll miss out on college though, but I guess it would just have to wait a few more months (Again). The same goes for if my financial aid doesn't plan out. Getting a crappy job can't be that hard, can it?

Once you get that drivers license, you can do what I usually do to kill stress(the extreme variety, not everyday stress), drive around with some music blaring for a bit and just let the music take hold of you. A war scream with some good metal gets it out quickly, while a slower or more mellow song lets it just ease out of the mind. I really only do this in the car because I'm completely alone and allow myself to let loose(back roads), but this could really work anywhere you could get some privacy.

I drive to the beach and listen to music like this

My car smells like motor oil on the inside, and I love it. There's nothing like the freedom of being under an open sky on the road. It doesn't matter how shitty things get.

Since you don't have a car, just go for a run or a bike ride and enjoy the outside. Sunshine makes people happy. It's science. Running is great for stress; it really loosens the body up.

I bake, usually. Not only do I find baking relaxing, I'll end up with something delicious (like Chocolate Lava Cakes) afterwards. And eating delicious desserts clears up my stress, too.
