everytime i want to watch a trailer of anything M rated i have to select my age and i was already annoyed about this, how can it be that you keep asking me that cant this site remember anything.

anyway so i accidently clicked i was born 2004 and couldnt access a video obviously, but as it turns out NOW this awsome site DOES remember what i entered and doesnt let me watch any M rated videos anymore.

Are you fucking serious? Realy thats how you do it now? Youre not keeping children from watching ANYTHING youre just annoying anyone who is missclicking.

im well aware that there are a bunch of threads about this most likeley but i do not see the point in this.

I think they know this man. Its a legal obligation they have to follow, welcome to the adult world, where you do things that you don't want to do.

I've been thinking about this also. Seems kinda stupid that I have to input a birth date every time. I'm allways logged into my profile and my birth date is in there... And that is my ACTUAL birth date. Normally when I want to watch a trailer or something and the site asks me how old I am. I just quickly enter something that makes me at least 18. Can't be bothered with it.

Why doesn't the site just quickly check my profile data...

It takes like 3 seconds to scroll down to 1980something, not enough to make a thread over. And just close-reopen the browser and you can try again. Complaining about it isn't going to change the fact that the Escapist is under legal obligation.

It's a legal requirement for them, like how a porn site will always say "Click exit if you're under 18". Even though minors can watch it, because it's not hard to lie over the internet, it covers the website's arse legally.

Maybe the world should stop pandaing (YEEEEP!) to children and simply let the video load, considering that any five year old can set their date to 1913.

I've noticed this quite a bit too. Youtube uses the age from your user account, I don't see why here can't too, leaving the manual confirmation for guests only. It really is a bit of a waste of time even when you just pick a random year halfway down the list.

The age confirmation is kept as a cookie in your browsers memory and is cleared when you close the browser or clear your cookies.

And if that isn't verification enough, they could use connected Facebook/Twitter data to see our date of birth. :v

I think it has something to do with the fact that they are not legally allowed to keep/ store that information that you put in the age gate.

They can't change it, it's a requirement set forth by the ESRB that they have to do it this way. Somebody from the staff will probably be by to explain that in more detail later, but that's the short version. Raise as much hell as you want about it, but sadly there isn't much they can do about it.
