Dear Escapist: Board looks even uglier. Please fix.

I am fairly concerned about what I'm seeing as a user getting suspended for not liking something the website did and making a thread about that. That's pretty draconian of the mods, unless something else is going on.

Edit: Whoops. If I read the thread, someone has already brought this up. My point stands, though, that there is a lot worse flaming and bitchery and insulting people on the forums that far surpasses the OP, and that people seem to easily get away with. You'd think the internet would respect people who (insert argument position here), but we've got so many threads full of vitriol that I'd figure all the gun control, feminism, etc. threads would be half full of suspended folk for the kind of hate that goes on in there.

Priorities, folks. I'd say policing the Angry Rage Hate threads is a much better way to clean out the forums than getting mad when people don't appreciate your efforts. (Which, sadly, is part of 'life isn't fair, which sucks, and you can only do so much about it.') Bitter and cynical me, perhaps, but yeah.

...And I'm slightly worried that the hammer is going to fall on *me* for questioning the mod procedures, but eh.

...With regards to the actual forum look, I'm pretty neutral on the matter, but I agree with "blue bars please."

In fact, what the fuck does that even mean? What constitutes as "dickish" behaviour is extremely subjective. Also, calling people dicks is sexist against men.
Pretty sure you know what it means, you're doing a fantastic job of acting like one here?

There are however ways to do this and the forum staff here have asked several times to present any comments in constructive way.
You mean like starting a thread and listing your grievances in a polite and concise manner?
If he had done then he likely wouldn't have been suspended. If he'd just posted in the actual thread already set up for talking about this, even better.

As we've said many, many times in this thread: He wasn't punished for being critical, he was punished for blatantly insulting us when we made every effort to hear him out. We welcome criticism as long as it's constructive and a quick glance at this thread's original post will reveal that it wasn't.

It isn't a lot to ask that you not be rude to us while we do something for you - That's just basic human decency.

Ah, but that doesn't answer my question! What about the sheer lack of basic human decency in these explosive, argumentative other threads? I'm pretty sure my reporting of people isn't doing a single thing.

I think the padding is too big and also the height of they gray bar. They both take to much space from the active area, when layout changes should be aimed to do the contrary (look at facebook). As someone already mentioned it would be great if the gray bar was some kind of blue.

Your question isn't on topic. If you want to discuss moderation with me, send me a PM or post in the Moderation Team User Group. I'd be happy to explain to you how thorough we are.

This is what he wrote

Ick.

Without warning, the Escapist suddenly gets even weirder-looking and not-at-all pleasing to the eyes.

Please, guys. Hire a professional.

EDIT NUMBAH ONE: Whoopsee. Lousy typos...

EDIT NUMBAH TWO: There's a Toggle Forum Layout button at the bottom, for those who don't like the new look.

EDIT NUMBAH THREE: You ever notice it takes rabble-rousing to get the staff to notice anything?
He is being blunt, be he is not insulting you.

But by all means

"Please guys, take this discussion about censorship and power abuse where we can more easily censor it and abuse our power."
His post amounts to
1. This sucks.
2. I don't like it.
3. You suck at your jobs.

I will state it again: we welcome you to be critical as long as you're being constructive. He said he didn't like it, but he didn't explain why. Saying "you need to hire professionals" is insulting to us, as we are clearly currently employed as professionals in this field.

contact us to openly or privately discuss these or any issue. There is a news post announcing the change with a forum thread attached where several staff are discussing the layout change, with even more staff lurking and listening to suggestions and concerns about the layout change. By saying, 'hire a professional' he's implying that we're not professional, which is insulting to those who put the time into the design.

I like it... it works properly on the IE6 at work! :p

(I never actually complained that the old lay-out didn't because it still functioned, and seriously... IE6!? If anyone was using that outside of their job I would just tell them to man up and upgrade already! :/)

We should be the bigger person site and make which layout you use an OPTION.
I think the issue with that is it would make it very complicated to integrate new features into the site.

In any case, there's uproar whenever the layout alters, which kind of takes validity from the outcry, and does bug me. This isn't Youtube.

Anyhow, due to Pubclub, I've had this layout for a while now. I'm pretty much used to it, and I'd say it's fine. At a stretch, the old one might be the one I'd choose, but this is hardly awful.

Or drop Internet Explorer all together! :D

Safari. Firefox. Chrome. These are all respectable browsers.
