Dear Escapist: This site is getting slower and slower

They did a site redesign... do you really expect it to be running 100% immediately? The fact that's its Wednesday doesn't help either.

How long should we wait for them to speed things up?

I don't notice the ZP lag anymore due to the new layout lag, also the the chats are borked to hell.
I will be patient yes, it is a new thing, yes, but a sign of "we're working on it!" wouldn't go amiss.

There are bound to be some bugs in the redesign, which included a serious back-end reshuffle, once the site is under full load. That's what happens with websites. ZP traffic probably doesn't help either.

And now it's hard to get through a full ZP or Unskippable episode without the video pausing three or four times to load. What is this, Youtube?

Eh, this site was always pretty damn unreliable when it comes to load times and time outs, at least for as long as I've been lurking here (2 or 3 years), so I haven't really noticed much of a change since the redesign. I'd say this "letter to the editor" (so to speak) has been overdue for a while now. Is there anyone to pm?

Mine seems to occasionally die every other time I post on the forum. Maybe it's just being critical of my opinions.

There's a lot of new things going on that didn't show up until we were under load, in addition to a general latency from before the redesign. I've been making performance improvements under the hood, so you'll notice the site speed gradually improving as I make my way through the code (I'm basically rewriting all the DB queries to use a new system, it's a very slow conversion though.)

Thanks for your patience, all will be faster then before soon enough. You should notice that long forum threads and groups have a much easier time displaying now (when the site isn't otherwise under heavy load).

As a note, I think I broke the new message icon again. I'll fix it tomorrow.

I had something eloquent to say, but I forgot most of it while this page loaded, but the main points were, I agree, and it is very hard to read anything while being simultaneously blinded by the blinding white background

It has been a lot slower since the redesign. Honestly, I find myself coming here less and less since. The site has become so slow, and on my already shitty Internet, half the time it doesn't load. And then when it does, I'm greeted to a layout I don't like the look of. Add onto that that none of the threads lately have really been appealing to me... Shame.

I... have had very few issues. Everything loads just fine, and one in thirty pages takes longer than ten seconds.

I guess I'm lucky?

The Escapist essentially doesn't have a back-up plan for heavy traffic like on a ZP day. Their servers are chugging hard as it is.

Even before Yatzee video on Wednesday, after the site got redesign it had became slow during the evenning (for me in the UK) although it's fine in the morning and afternoon.
I certainly hope they can sort it out soon.

Also how the hell am I meant to type this? It's so hard to see!
