I'm not really sure what the policy to linking to your own blog is on here, but I want someone in the wide universe to read the damn thing.

Anyway, if you do fancy a moderate read, here's my thoughts on the furore surrounding ME 2.
http://www.andotherfinepastries.blogspot.com/

Enjoy, or not.
While everyone is shutting up about ME2 may I also add that people shut up about MW2 and Avatar (the blue aliens) threads as well. You know..because that's enough talking about it.
And zombies.
And pirates.
And ninjas.

The reason you couldn't enjoy Oblivion was because it just wasn't that good a game. I lie awake every night wondering how it ever did as well as it did, because it was a massive failure of a game (but at least Fallout III came out of it). I have high hopes for mass effect II. I'm avoiding anything about the game and just going to play it when it's out (already preordered). I'm not a huge fan of the new party at all and am extremely pissed about Liara not being a party member. Regardless I know I'll enjoy the sequel, and can't wait til it's out.
I also quite enjoyed your article and you can consider me a regular fan of your blog (when it gets up and running properly).

I guess well written dialogue, interesting story, and deep characterization aren't for everyone.
And exactly how did Mass Effect have any of those things?

Well, seeing as I have to hold back on my feelings for ME1 and why I'm not overly excited for ME2 as I'm within your earshot, I'll pick on another point in your blog.

"but the constant nervousness that permeated the whole experience was something I couldn't escape. It ruined Oblivion, which is to say, I ruined Oblivion."

No, Bethesda ruined Oblivion. Not because it was a bad game (althought it was badly voice acted and shallow to the extreme), but because Morrowind exists. Your expectations weren't too high, their output was too low.

With regards to ME2, I may look it up at some point when I'm bored, but I'm still waiting for a game to come out that'll persuade me to replace my broken 360 first!

eh. didn't like the first one. i want my force to look pro damn it, not like some space gangbangers. give me non-pink/yellow armor with some guns. they always have a scarce supply of weaponry in their games.
I agree with you about the pink and yellow armour, but scarce supply of weapons? Every character has four weapons strapped to them at all times, even if they only know how to use one of them properly.

I don't know. How exactly did it not have those things? The story was interesting, the dialogue was well written, the characterisation was deep. What more explanation could we possibly give?

The dialog was overly verbose as well as very linear often straying to purple prose. The story was a simple write by numbers disposable epic grounded in basic Science Fiction cliches. The characters were all shallow archetypes based on overly used cliches without any real characterization.

Why not just exercise a little self-control and not click on any links ME2 related?

Its what I'm doing - I even skip sections of interviews where they show parts of the game.

Did the same with AC2 as well.

I'll agree that its annoying when you read a preview and they tell you what happens in the first 3 hours of a game - I just want to know the gameplay elements and how they handle, as well as technical things like FPS.

When it comes to the story just tell me its "intriguing" or "shit" (or something along those lines).

Thing is though, Mass Effect 2 is going to be the best game ever. It's now a fundamental law of the universe.
Right up until Mafia 2 comes out, that is. At which point the universe will fold in on itself and leave only me, a solid gaming rig and a copy of the game behind.

[small]And a lot of porn.[/small]

I can think of a few people that would disagree with that, but whatever.

So it's highly anticipated. If you don't want to read about it... well, don't read about it. Sheesh.

Because I'm sure you went through every line of possible dialogue and read every bit of codex in the game.
I read most of the Codex, dry stereotypical Sci-Fi encyclopedia. And I played the first half of the game twice thanks to running into a brick wall difficulty wise in my first play through. The second time I made a conscious decision to try different dialog options, yet the NPC's gave the exact same response.

Hell, from the sounds of it, you didn't even play it.
I did play it. I completed it. I then went back to playing good RPGs.

Whenever people use the words "groundbreaking RPG unlike anything you've seen before", people raise the bar of expectations from Adventure Quest to Jesus. Problem is, I haven't seen anything come anywhere close to the latter.

Well, here's a hint, if you want people to read your blog, you might want to come up with something better than "Stop talking about a game that you are excited for that is coming out next week".

yea but they are mosly crap. like in dragon age, i want a uniform force with dragonbone equipment. even when i unlock dragon bone the merchants all have iron weaponry. i am making the ultra leet special forces, not retarded fantastic 4.
I cannot fathom a way in which this reply makes any sense.
