Your cat's not funny. Every cat in the whole fucking world can be playful and nonchalant, and you need not reproduce every one of his/her antics in your webcomic just because they made you chuckle. Your cat is endearing to YOU and YOU alone. Drawing gags with your cat in them is like being a mommy yapping about how her baby did this and that the other day. We do not share your enthusiasm about your baby, let alone your mascot, and their antics are boring and mundane. They're not jokes on their own. I know you can be funny and creative when you set your minds to it, anywhere from building up to funny punchlines to making interesting remarks and/or observations about everyday life. But your cat - not funny. OK, maybe the first time. But don't abuse it.

...

Anybody else wanna chip in, feel free to rant, rage or politely address our beloved world wide artistes.

I quite enjoy reading about the antics other peoples' cats get up to. Mostly out of curiosity as to if they mirror the actions of my own cats. It's sort of like having children, I guess. I care nothing for what someone else's kid gets up to because I have no kid of my own. But having 2 cats of my own - each with its own distinct personality - I can appreciate just how absurd the creatures can be.

Johnny, do you actually own a cat?

Bahahaha oh Scott you lazy bastard...

Personally I feel like webcomics get sick waaaay more often than people in other jobs, it's like once every month, pretty consistent and suspicious if you ask me. Though that's just a small thing that I don't really mind.

Ramsoomair isn't sick, he's just using his fame from VGCats to avoid work and go to gaming conventions free of charge.

Jeph Jacques gets sick a lot, but he has pretty severe mental issues to work on.
Not saying Scott specifically but webcomics in general, also whats the deal with Ben Driscoll?
The author of Daisy Owl, heard he got a little crazy and ended up putting it on hiatus.

For the love of god, make a fucking schedule and if you do, keep to it. Aimed at Rich Burlew (Order of the Stick) and Dan Shive (El Goonish Shive). Anyone who has read OOTS knows what I'm talking about. As for you, Mr. Shive. Don't change your schedule every fucking week. Pisses me off. And to you, guy who draws Brawl in the Family; stop going on vacation. Seriously. You don't need a holiday every two months when your job involves sitting around drawing all day.

There is alot I'd love to write to webcomic artists, writers and whatnot. It just fucks with my mind how much they can get away with; especially in terms of schedule. If you are sick or injured, fine have a few days off. But not every two fucking months.

To be fair, it's hard to beat "Had a severe mental breakdown, drank a bottle of Jack and stabbed myself in the hand with the broken bottle" in the valid excuses for absences department.

...you are aware that they give their comics to us for free, right? So they don't really have any obligation to give us anything at all.

never advertise your comic by listing the "roles" your characters fill in your comic.

seriously, you're either selling yourself short or not covering up the fact your comic is formulaic as hell.
also "Quirky" is not the basis for a character's personality, try again.

Sounds like some one needs to calm down a little... It's a web comic/s, do you pay to access this particular one/any? Probably not, so it's free entertainment and you're complaining about it... Seems a little ungrateful. What's the web comic in question, I'm guessing it was a particular one that got you into the mind set of making this thread.

No they don't, the people that are complaining about this stuff seem very ungrateful of the free content they get to enjoy.

Well, OOTS his hand was cut. A fair reason - you can't draw when there's damaged ligaments. However it hasn't been the first time he's been on 'sick leave'. If you look at the comics most of the poses/scenes are interchangeable. The new part is mostly dialogue, which doesn't require any drawing whatsoever and can be written (or at least planned out) while injured.

Just because you got famous with your webcomic does not mean you get to ignore it for months at a time.

Have you ever read Gone with the Blastwave? That thing updates once every 3-6 months. It's a shame because it's so good.

OT: I don't mind the occasional comic about the artist's pet. It helps be get to know who is behind the comic.

Yes I am aware. However, it still annoys me. Technically speaking, anyone who makes a complaint in this thread could be dismissed using this same argument.

fair enough, but a lot of these artists try to make money with it through donations or money-on-the-side merchandise, if anything, constructive critisism may only help them compell more people to follow their comic.
It's help, or tough love if you wanna call it that. ;)

only if they're open to that, though, some artists dismiss anything that isn't blind praise, but there always some really good guys too.

I do not. I also do not actually own an Anthro PC or a gorilla, nor am I a lesbian, but I find QC, Dr. McNinja and GWS hilarious. Maybe it's got to do with actual sense of humor?

You people should check out Schlock Mercenary. Howard Tayler, the author, has, to the best of my knowledge, updated the comic every day since around 2000 with no filler and no guest comics, without dropping quality. Also, I'm pretty sure there are no cats.

Bruno the Bandit and Freefall have both been doing similar things.

God, Bruno the Bandit is so good.

Eh, cat jokes can be done properly. The Go Get a Roomie [http://www.gogetaroomie.com] comic has had a few strips dedicated to cat jokes, but these are usually funny, not out of place, or just cute and not grating. And by "a few", I mean ~3 since 2010.

Although I am curious as to when the bottom is going to fall out of the "cat market" and people will stop caring.
