I'll be honest: The only real knowledge I have of ctrl-alt-del is the often lampooned miscarriage strip.
but real awfulness to the comic is it's bad jokes, which, granted, have improved somewhat since he moved away from his regular cast of characters.

the miscarriege strip is mostly awful because it features actual tragedy and drama in a series that has the subtlety of a Big Daddy and about as much emotional depth, it just doesn't work.

Gaming webcomics that start involving their real life dramas. Protip: No one cares. Exceptions: Cory's butt wiggling is acceptable.

Instead of ranting at those that don't keep a steady update schedule, how about praising the artists who do?
Tom Siddell over at Gunnerkrigg Court [http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/] updates consistently every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The guy actually quit his job so he could work on his free web comic instead.

also, I don't think I'd need to introduce you to Ethan McManus from ctrl-alt-del, he's pretty much the trendsetter and prime example of the poorly written "quirky" character.
Ctrl-Alt-Del has just been totally rebooted, tossing out almost all of the poorly written characters, especially Ethan, leaving only Players 1-4, which are about as well rounded as they sound.

It's still the same art-style, and possibly less bad than it was, but still done by Tim Buckley (try finding someone in the Webcomics industry with a good word for him or his work :) )

Jesus Christ, HumourFallsProne, is it so hard just to update once a fucking week? Your art isn't even that detailed

Wait shit, that's my webcomic...
Wait, did you just name drop your webcomic on a board? Isn't that considered advertising, even sarcastically?

I remember seeing banners for a long time about some geek related gag-comic that went by their characters "The Ringleader", "the sidekick", "the girl" (seriously) and "the fat guy" (again, seriously), I can't remember the name though, must be a surpressed thought.
I believe that may be for "The Outer Circle", the other webcomic from the guy who does Dueling Analogs. I wish he actually spent his time on DA, it's clearly the superior one of the two.

No, not really. I didn't provide any links, or tell people where to find it. It's just a namedrop. =P

Speak for yourself, I love it when artists stick stuff about their real life in their comics, makes me feel like I'm getting to know them and I get all fangirly and 'squee'-y.

My boyfriend and our mutual friend do webcomics as well as indie small press publishing. I've written a comic book but seeing the amount of stress they go through to keep their comics regularly updated or hit convention deadlines, I really don't think I could handle it. Would much rather just write in my own time and stick it up for people to read if they really want to. I don't exactly see a problem with that, personally - if people are so desperate to see the next instalment then they can bleedin' well pay money so that a person doesn't have to spend most of their time at a job.

Well, so far it's been about 7000 years and counting...

Cat's don't have to be funny. Sometimes, they are quite tragic.

This seems more disturbing than tragic.
By the way, this is in Chapter 1 of Drowtales. The art varies, as it was drawn and redrawn at multiple points, but it can be damn gorgeous

I'd forgotten VGCats was even still a thing until I saw this thread.

I guess that speaks for itself.

Its really scary to put your stuff out there, and setting an obligation for yourself, on your own, to produce content on a schedule while you have real life to worry about is difficult.

I know that if I were producing a webcomic and I was under the impression that my community was demanding, harsh and without understanding, I'd probably not be so keen on keeping it up. Considering that the vast majority of webcomics out there are not at all lucrative, there's even less incentive to produce than the other, notable authors yall seem so peeved with.

Just please, think a second before you speak. Imagine if the webcomic in question was your work, how would you want your readers to behave? I'm not saying to avoid criticism, but if you want someone to put more comics out, how about sending them an encouraging email or something?

The fact that someone can produce free content, suffer a major personal setback, then have a thousand people slandering their name on the internet because they have to shelve their hobby is just kinda messed up.

Seems fair enough to me, those beetles are really good at getting their shit together.
