You need to die. You've had a good run old friend. All the way back from the days off Golden Eye to new titles like TitanFall you have existed. But you needs to die. I understand your charm. I get home from work and you greet me like the most loyal of dogs. We play at length, sometimes the whole afternoon. Your always there, even when I'm not. I love you, but you need to die. Your very simple to understand, "Kill all enemies". One button aims down the sights, the other shoots a couple of rounds. An armada of mindless killing machine cause whomever kills more, wins. It has been over 15 years of bliss. I will always cherish the years I've spent playing with you my friend. But you need to die. For you my friend are the standard for all. At one point thought to be a blessing, but now I only see it as a pox upon all. You've begun to invade places for which you were never meant to be. My lovable Gears. And even the Creed. You've over stayed your welcome and have become stale and monotonous. I used to beckon you with a smile, now I beckon you with nonchalance. For in your simplicity lies the problem. You are too simple and we need to out grow you. You may be asking what could possibly be better than me? Certainly not that fuddy duddy Capture the Flag. Definitely not that blubbering fool Search and Destroy. Who could replace me? I wish I could answer your queries my friend but, even I know not the answer to your questions. But, you need to die. For what I do know is that I have played better and in order for anything better to become the bar, the current bar needs to be erased. Don't fret friend, many will be sad that you are gone. Some will be angry at me for suggesting this notion. But they'll be aight'. No one knew you would last so long when you were created. Who's to say there shan't be another. So I lay the foundation for your destruction in the hopes that others will follow. Because my friend you need to die. Or at least go into remission for a couple of years.

I love playing online multiplayer but I've started to get tired of team deathmatch. Everyone gravitates towards it and since most games are created through match making it is sometimes difficult to play anything different. The best multiplayer mode I've ever played has been Titan mode from BattleField 2142. It was innovative, exhilarating, and most importantly fun. But since then shooters don't seem to have developed a new mode that has truly amazed me. Even if they did, I believe most people would still fall back on team deathmatch. What I wish to do here is suggest that Team Deathmatch needs to be scrapped for a while to allow for something... different.

We need to out grow you, I'm tired of you. you've confused everyone with yourself, just because you're bored of it doesn't mean everyone is.
I personally find most multiplayers boring and have only enjoyed CoD4's multilayer and resistance 2's/L4D's online co-op, and the message system from dark/demon souls so while I don't care much for multiplayer at all I know that many do and that is why they are made and bought.
Edit;
Although I must say I'm interested in TitanFall.

Team Deathmatch is hardly my favorite game mode, but I still enjoy going to it occasionally. It's a little more relaxing than other game modes, and offers a good break from objective-based game modes, especially when I just spent the whole night trying to get along with a team of idiots. Even with Call of Duty's Kill Confirmed, I still found myself occasionally going back to Team Deathmatch on occasion just to remove myself from everything but simply running around shooting people. As a result, I don't think it should die. If you don't like it, don't play it, but it seems rather pointless to completely remove it.

Team Deathmatch is the most logical team based competitive game mode in any game where each player controls a character (FPS, RPG) or base (RTS).

TDM's probably one of my favorite modes. Simple killing with teammates. What's not to like? As long as games keep throwing in cool modes like Juggernaut or Soul King alongside good ol' DM and TDM, I'm happy.

This sentence is used for so often, and it's as apt here as anywhere else. That's just pulling the rug out from under everyone who enjoys deathmatch. It's not like it even takes development time, since deathmatch is the basis for every other game mode with the rules stripped down. Sure, it's used in games where it doesn't belong, but that's another question entirely. There's plenty of non-deathmatch shooters to go around.

It's one of my favorite modes, quickly log in, kill everything in sight, log off when you've got your dose and go do whatever you need to do. If you are tired of it then play team matches, capture the flag and whatnot. Don't assume that everyone thinks the same way you do.

Joking response:
Actual response: No way... It's fun to kill anything and/or anyone on sight... Though most of my Team Deathmatches are NOT from the typical online multiplayer matches... (Local or bust!)

Also, there are other modes to play, of course... (except if there's no team-based multiplayer... but, let's focus on the other modes instead of that right now...)

Wait... you're mad that TDM is in Gears? Gears of War 3's Team Deathmatch was one of the very rare exceptions of Team Deathmatch being something other than 'just kill until the score is reached'. Granted, Judgment's was terrible.

I have a novel idea. STOP PLAYING TEAM DEATHMATCH IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT.
Most multiplayer games have a ton of modes these days. If people felt the same way about TDM like you, I'm sure they'd play those other modes.

With that being said, I have no quarrels with it. I play CS:GO all the time. With proper players it's the best competitive multiplayer mode ever imagined.

Team Deathmatch can stay, it's elimination based Team Deathmatch that needs to die. Any game mode where you can't respawn quickly and play rather than just watch from the sidelines is a flawed game mode.

Some people really enjoy that kind of mode, and it does have it's place.

I don't like it though, I want to play and play now, not die at the start of a five minute round to some coward sniper and sit around waiting to respawn.

There's a charm to a good old deathmatch though, just killing shit for lulz and gibs.

Well deathmatch is the simplest and cheapest mode to put together, sadly that also leads to very cheap play with no exploit going unused, especially with the new unlocking bollocks creeping in everywhere which actually rewards egoism and griefing. Not to mention it is usually the quickest way to farm XP so the entire community will flock to that one mode.

TDM doesn't need to die as such just get more detailed to prevent exploits, and far more importantly after two decades of multiplayer devs should really branch out a little with modes that are actually thoughtful.

It does have it's place- I find it actually works when a game is specifically geared towards tricking, betrayal and backstabbing. In those situations it works quite well, like in Sub Rosa, but even then you can have quick respawning and it still works just fine, like with The Ship.

It just really gets my goat that with games that have a small player base, some players only ever play elimination type games, and everyone else gravitates towards the same modes simply because they're populated- with the rest of the game's interesting multiplayer modes left to die an ignored death. Mount And Blade Warband, for example, would be fantastic if more people played seige instead of battle, but there you go.

And yeah, straight up deathmatch will always have a charm to it, so long as the game is fast-paced enough.

I recently got back into multiplayer shooters so I can't say TDM has worn out its welcome with me yet. I think it will always be my old standby if my interest in OMP continues. I do wish there were more people willing to coordinate in the matches instead of every man for himself.
For everyone taking the TC post too seriously, chill.

When you boil it all down, every team-based shooter mode is just "Team Deathmatch & X". Capture the Flag? Well that's just TDM while trying to...well...capture a flag. King of the Hill is just TDM over a specific location on the map. Search and Destroy is just TDM with no respawns. TDM is the root from which all other team-based game modes spawn. Sure, a round of Domination in CoD has absolutely nothing to do with kill-count, but if one team is killing the other a lot more, then the team that's getting killed probably isn't doing too well at capturing the objectives. In a game of Search and Destroy, the kill count doesn't matter because you can still blow up one of the objectives...but it's hard to do that when 5 of your teammates are dead and it's just you against 4 or 5 other people. The kill counts in these games don't determine the winner, but they most certainly influence who the winner will be.

What I'm getting at is that TDM isn't necessarily a game mode all to itself with other modes like Domination, Capture the Flag, and Search and Destroy being completely separated. TDM is really almost synonymous with "Team-Based Game". The only game mode that's not in any way related to TDM is just a standard free-for-all DM. As such, what you're asking for has already been granted in numerous different forms: game modes other than vanilla "Which Team Kills The Other The Most" TDM games. All other team-based game modes are just offshoots of TDM. No matter what kind of game mode you're playing, if you're playing on a team with other players, you're effectively playing one flavor or another of TDM.
