Yan turned as a man approached and spoke. He held the gun ready, but the man's words were calm, unafraid, and devoid of hostility, and he lowered the weapon.

"Thank you, I'm glad I still have clear eyes and a steady hand. But what did your parents teach you about respecting your elders, boy? My name is Yan Shannov, whats yours?"

In Russia, it is polite to use a persons full name as a sign of respect (similar tocalling someone 'Mr X'), while a surname on it's own (just 'x') is to an inferior, and a first name (just 'Joe') is familiar.

Make sense?

Yuri looked over the weapon the solider had been carrying. Looked like a standard USSR guards rifle that he had been manufacturing at one of the youth factories. Perhaps he'd be able to fix it so he crawled behind a snowbank to see if he could fix it.

Turns out the idiot hadn't put the bullets in properly and after a few minor adjustments, and test firing a shot into the night air, he then walked from around the snow bank as if daring any soldiers to start firing at him

Sergei K. awoke only to find darkness over him, the twinkling of the stars brought him back to reality. The train had crashed. The first thought Sergei K. had after that was simply: He was free.

He quickly arose to take stock of his surroundings: A dead guard lay near him, his pistol still clutched in his now frozen fingers. Sergei requisitioned it. Something was moving near him, it was a soldier, he was wounded, his guts were seeping out into the snow. Two shots rang out. The soldier stopped moving. Sergei smiled at his work. After taking anything of value from the soldiers corpse Sergei was pleased with his haul. He had a lighter, some coins, a shiny pistol, and most importantly his freedom.

Sergei walked off to see what else this night had to offer him.

"I aplogise for any offense caused Mr. Shannov, but as you must know well, etiquette can quickly be discarded in situations such as this..." Lukas thought for a second, and continued, "My name is Lukas Daryvich, and it is a pleasure to meet you."

Cyprus hit the ground as he heard more bullets fly over head, his hands rested over his head in an attempt to protect himself from stray bullets. He had experience with guns but being shot at was a different story, people were actually trying to kill him this time. "Can we just cut the chatter and get the fuck out of here?!" He shouted over the noise of the stray bullets.

Just to establish the scene, is there a firefight raging or were the only shots Yan's and it's relatively quiet now?

"And you, Daryvich, for when you are on a battlefild, it is always good to find a man who means you no harm. And since the fighting continues, I suggets we leave"

He was about to set off, when he heard the cruch of footsteps on ice, coming closer

"Whos there?" he called in Russian, "A prisoner? Come here and you'll not be hurt!"

There is an intense firefight between the ILSA and Soviets a few hundred metres away, but can we all meet up and get out of our respective predicaments before joining in the fight?

Firefight in the distance I believe, but stray bullets and wandering soldier's could still prove to be an issue.

Hearing voices coming from a few meters away, Yuri raised his new rifle and called out in his gruff bear voice

"Stand and fight you spineless soldiers! Think you all can take one prisoner down?!"

"Ha, good answer."

He quickly holsters his pistol and walks towards the man.

"I take it you have as much disdain for current USSR policy as I do."

As Sergei was walking a firm voice called out from behind a wrecked train car in front of him: "Whos there? A prisoner? Come here and you'll not be hurt!"

It sounded like a guard. Sergei breathed a sigh of relief and smiled, considering the "You'll not be hurt" bit. Typical guard "sweet talk", though he doubted any prisoners would be dumb enough to believe it.

Carefully, Sergei called out, "I'm not a prisoner, I'm a settler! Don't shoot me, I'm coming out now!" He then began to walk slowly into sight of whoever called out to him, though out of excitement his pace quickened as he rounded the car.

But he froze in his tracks once he spotted the group of men standing there. They were clearly not soldiers. They looked dirty and unkempt, and wore loose cheap clothing. It was clear they were civilians, but he didn't recognize them as any of the few settlers on the train.

But there were plenty of prisoners.

Sergei remained frozen in his spot, unsure of what to do. He was afraid they would somehow know he wasn't one of them, and shoot him right there. He knew he should take action of some sort, perhaps arrest them? He was going to be a government official after all. But all he could do was stand there in fear and wait for one of them to do something.

Ah, okay, I'll edit my earlier post slightly then to take the continued gunfire into account.

Lukas heard muffled shouting, and boots coming from behind him,
"Ah, hello there friend," Lukas politely and happily said in Russian, "You are another survivor I presume?"

Hearing no answer to his call, Yuri crawled behind the group that was doing all the talking, his rifle pointed down at them

"And you would be?" he asked, a hint of surprise in his voice

When one of the prisoners spoke he sounded friendly. This shocked Sergei back to thinking clearly; he couldn't be sure they were prisoners. And even if they were, they wouldn't know he wasn't either. He would have to be careful and test the water.

Eyeing one of the men's revolver nervously Sergei cleared his throat and said, "Yes, yes I survived, thankfully. Do you know what is going on?"

Deciding to try to determine who they were, he added, "Did you see any guards nearby?" He hoped his nervousness couldn't be heard in his voice.

Yuri looks blankly at Sergi, his finger still on the trigger

"I am Yuri. Why shouldn't I kill you, Sergei?"
