This, or the inverted to: They are a jerk to everyone else, but then get shy around the person they like.

Its a common trope, the term does us no harm, and it is a useful description. Why would you have a problem with it? Its not like more words are really that bad. And I will use the term, along with yandere, because I find it a useful short-hand for a character's personality.

DasDestroyer is right, a good example of "classic" Tsundere from a modern anime is Taiga from Toradora, hates the male protagonist at the start, then slowly starts liking him more until the point where she moves in with him and confesses her love for him.
