Can anyone recommend some decent PSP games? I bought a cheap PSP on an impulse buy but I cannot find a game I like, I tried Resistance: Retribution but a shooting game with a single analogue stick is a nightmare. Also I tried Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, after starting you get a 30 minute long cut scene of a dude talking about Costa Rican coffee I gave up with that.

Are there any fun, short games that you can pick up for 5 mins and have some fun that don't have horrible controls?

Prinny: can I really be he Hero? is a fun little platformer. It's a platformr with castlevania jumps though, and a few levels can be frustrating, but overall it's one of my favorite games for the psp

Speaking of castlevania, theres a game for that which has a remake of of rondo of blood, the actual rondo of blood game, and symphony of the night.

Loco Roco 2 is a weird platformer. You mostly just use the shoulder buttons to tilt the world to move the blob like main character. The levels and the game itself are pretty short (plus all the collectibles that come with platformers) so this may be what you're really looking for.

If 3d beatemups are more your thing, god of war: chains of olympus is really short. For me, dissappointingly short, and making still wish the psp had a devil may cry, but eh. whatever.

Have you tried the first psp metal gear, portable ops? I personally liked, though a lot of other MGS fans hated it. The levels in this one are really small, the game is short compared to other mgs games. I liked the whole "pokemon" aspect of it though: you kidnap the enemy forces, then imprison them until they join you, then you can have them spy, develop weapons, be medics or go into the field with snak, hiding in boxes until they're needed. The best part is that none of the cutscenes are much longer than 5 mins, so it's much less ridiculous than other MGS games.

if you get any rpg for the psp, make it Popolocrois. it's rare, but totally worth it. When was the last time an rpg made you cry? I guarantee This game will make you cry at some point, unless you're some kind of heartless monster.

Megaman: maverick hunter X. A few things are different from the original game, but what really makes it worth it is vile mode, where you get to play as one of the villains, Vile. He's a really fun character to use.

If you're going to download from psn, get jumping Flash! or jumping flash!2 from the playstation classics section (theyre both so simmilar you may not want to get both). They're both fun 3d platformers (the first one came out before mario 64, I believe) and have pretty short levels, so this might be the best option. Also, you pilot a rabbit battlemech with ridiculous jumping abilities. It just goes to show there were good 3d platformers before mario 64.

WHew... never thought my psp knowledge would come in handy!

Lumines 2. It's a seriously addicting puzzle game with nice songs to boot.

The Disgaea series, Prinny, and the God of War series are fairly one of the good ones in PSP.

Prinny: Can I really be the Hero is still one of my all time favorite games and I would buy a PSP just for that game.

Other good games are Echochrome, Dissidia, Loco Roco games, Patapon games, Coded Arms (at least I thought it was pretty good as a distraction), Crisis Core, Disgaea games, and Persona games.

Persona 3 Portable- 80+ hour RPG with a great story.

Disgaea 1 + 2- Funny strategy rpgs with some bat-shit insane combat. Usually played in short bursts.

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite- Hunt monsters with friends. Will scratch a difficulty itch if you have one.

Ugh, PSPs..... Honestly if I were you I would just take it back. I had one myself for a while, but I found that controling games on it was near impossible (Depending on what kind of game it was) and that they had the same graphical quality and depth as a PS1 game. If I'm really desperate to play something on the go, I just use my phone instead.

Persona 3 Portable
Disgaea - Afternoon of Darkness
Valkyria Chronicles II

These are the only games i own on PSP, but between them there are several hundred hours of gameplay. P3P for my grinding and MegaTen needs, Disgaea for some SRPG goodness. Valkyria for something different, gosh i love that game.
As an Australian, these games were not easy to come by. I must of called every E.B. in Brisbane.

I hope you realize how inane your argument is, the PSP was released during the PS2 era, how could one honestly expect anything higher than PS1 graphics for a handheld?

The Monster Hunter games were the only memorable PSP games to me, but I can't guarantee you'll like them. I've spent dozens of hours going through them (and yet I still didn't get close to completing any...), but they just don't "click" with everyone. Other than that... Uh... The Killzone game was alright I guess. Oh, and Patapon was quite good, I was terrible at it though. I also had a demo for a game called Loco Roco, which was amusing in a strange, trippy way.

It was? Well, consider me schooled, I had no idea. Still, if it's that old I would just get a newer handheld instead.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is a great game and the game that got me into Final Fantasy. It uses real time combat instead of turn based, and though stiff and simple, it's pretty good and the story is great and moving.

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is one of my favourites. Sure the cutscenes are long, but they aren't so long in this one that there's a reason to give up on it. If you've played any other MGS games, especially MGS3, this one NEEDS to be played.

Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep is pretty good, lasts a while and is relatively satisfying, detailing the events prior to the first Kingdom Hearts game and is the perfect spin-off of Kingdom Hearts and a worth while one to have while waiting for Kingdom Hearts 3.

God of War games are just God of War but you can take it anywhere, which is awesome.

Calumon: LocoRoco is neat. :3

Final Fantasy Dissidia is great if you are a fan of fighting games. And I've heard really good things about Patapon.
pet peeve: It's Dissidia: Final Fantasy, NOT "Final Fantasy Dissidia"

That said, OP, get Dissidia 012 Duodecim: Final Fantasy, the sequel. It has the entire story mode of the first game's story, and is awesome.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is a great pick up and play RPG, with a great combat system and a wonderful story (the ending had me holding back tears)

You may also want to look into Fate/EXTRA, it's a fun little visual novel/dungeon crawler RPG.

Final Fantasy IV: Complete Collection is FF4, The After Years, and a new story bridging them, with the ability to save anywhere.

There's also a Mega Man Powered Up!/Maverick Hunter X double pack for about $15 new that you'll probably enjoy.

Really, a ton of the ultra-hardcore RPGs can be picked up and played easily, thanks to most of them letting you save anywhere, and the PSP's sleep mode letting you just essentially pause anywhere.
