I'm watching Neon Genesis Evangelion for the first time, and my god, does Asuka EVER SHUT THE FUCK UP?!

Where were you guys in the 90's and early 2000s? Evangelion is about as famous in nerd culture as Akira is, and it also shares a similar "everyone's heard of it, very few have actually watched it" status. I remember seeing ads for it as a kid, and wanting to see it, although to this day I still haven't watched it.TimeLord said:I take that rock, and raise you a cave!Pandaman1911 said:Hey, I live under that rock too! I was 9 in 2000. I don't remember anything like this on TV at the time. But then again, all I watched was Fairly Odd Parents and Pokèmon.Owyn_Merrilin said:Where were you guys in the 90's and early 2000s? It wasn't on TV, but there were ads in every gameshop and comicbook store in the country, not to mention a fair few comics -- I'm surprised a Pokemon fan who was 9 in 2000 doesn't remember the ad which took up the entire back cover of one of the issues of The Electric Tale of Pikachu, which it seems like everyone around that age read at some point, even if it meant borrowing it from someone lucky enough to own a copy. For comparison, I turned 10 in January of 2000, so our ages are pretty comparable.TimeLord said:I was 9 in 2000. I don't remember anything like this on TV at the time. I'm inclined to agree, I thought Shinji was a helluve a lot worse than Asuka. Which isn't to say Asuka is good, she's annoying as well.mbug said:im amazed you can hear asuka over shinji's constant whinging

I have read The Electric Tale of Pikachu but I probably just glazed over the ad. I don't remember being interested in anything other than Pokèmon at that age.Owyn_Merrilin said:It wasn't on TV, but there were ads in every gameshop and comicbook store in the country, not to mention a fair few comics -- I'm surprised a Pokemon fan who was 9 in 2000 doesn't remember the ad which took up the entire back cover of one of the issues of The Electric Tale of Pikachu, which it seems like everyone around that age read at some point, even if it meant borrowing it from someone lucky enough to own a copy. Edit: I'm pretty sure every issue of that particular comic had a full page ad towards the back, too. It was one of the first major anime series to get a VHS release in the US, and boy did they advertise the hell out of it.
it was on tv in australia coz when it first aired on SBS in the early 00's i watched it (i was like... 7 though when i watched it so i had to rewatch it later when i was older and remembered it was around XD). but it was on tvOwyn_Merrilin said:It wasn't on TV, but there were ads in every gameshop and comicbook store in the country, not to mention a fair few comics -- I'm surprised a Pokemon fan who was 9 in 2000 doesn't remember the ad which took up the entire back cover of one of the issues of The Electric Tale of Pikachu, which it seems like everyone around that age read at some point, even if it meant borrowing it from someone lucky enough to own a copy. Man, I wish we got the good stuff here in the US; not that there haven't been some good series on TV, but the really good ones have been relegated almost exclusively to late night TV, and the whole thing has been on life support since Cartoon Network dropped the axe on their Toonami block. I mean, we still have Adult Swim and, as far as I know, Animonday, but they're both late night TV, and the block with the better content runs from 11:00 PM Monday night to 2:00 AM Tuesday, so it's not something that people who have to go to school or work on a regular basis can watch. There's also an entire anime channel on most cable systems, but it's a premium channel that has to be ordered alacarte; I don't know of any standard packages that carry it.mbug said:it was on tv in australia coz when it first aired on SBS in the early 00's i watched it (i was like...
