Escapists i want to know for you, what is a spoiler...

Cuz i was playing on Kongregate and had those little chat windows on the side, and comented how Skyrim had Werewolfs and Vampires, and some idiot started capsing and raging that i was spoiling Skyrim for people who haven't played it yet.

Maybe i'm not following his line of thought, but considering i did not say anything about the story or key events that may happen, and merely saied that a person can become a Vampire or a Werewolf, wich for me serves more has a motivation then has a spoiler.

If in a game you tell me, Hey you can summon dragons, or even you can have a home for your stuff, i think those things give me more motives to buy saied game, to get those things and try them for myself. In no way i see how could they ever spoil the game for me or for anyone else.

It's merely telling that there is a mechanic that i (or someone else) might appreciate.

So tell me escapists. What is your definition of Spoilers?

Telling me major plot lines...

I do get annoyed when someone tells me whats going on with the story in a film/game/TV series.

Mechanics of what happens like Werewolves/Vampires/Dragons and homes don't spoil it.

I suppose telling them how it happens does spoil it for some people and gives away the plot of one of the quest chains.

Spoilers are for giving away parts of the story or significant set pieces in the gameplay that are designed to shock the player. Like if someone told you that in Resident Evil 3 that Nemesis could knock down doors it wouldn't shock you as much when it happened and therefore that element of the game was spoiled for you.

Giving away an event in a story. Mostly major ones, but if a game (like Skyrim) has many quests, I'd count those too.
A game mechanic is not a spoiler, though I agree with you in saying how it is gotten is.

Weren't they revealed in promo material?

Because it's hard to consider something a spoiler when it's advertised.

I must admit, a few days ago when my friend told me there would be werewolves in Skyrim, I wasn't too happy. I would have liked that to be a surprise, but it's not exactly going to ruin my experience so I'm not terribly bothered.

EDIT:

This is a great description.

Oh yes i understand... but saying you could use Rocket Launchers on RE3... considering it's more of a gameplay mechanic then anything else would you consider THAt a spoiler?

No because it's a basic gameplay element not a shock tool that only works when it takes the player by surprise.

Why would it be a spoiler that Skyrim has vampires and werewolves? Morrowind had vampires and werewolves...

I'd say that you'd have to be a bit more specific than that to count as a spoiler.

Aeris dies. That is a spoiler.

Sonic can turn into Super Sonic in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Not a spoiler.

What's so hard to understand? If someone complains that you spoiled Skyrim by stating that there are vampires and were-wolfs in it, they don't understand the word they are using. Simple as that.

Now, excuse me. My planet needs me. *flies away*

Depending on what it is. I usually don't want to know ANYTHING about ANYTHING before I watch it. I have a way of figuring out storylines based on the smallest of details. This only applies to films tho (or basketball games). Despite games being ten times longer, there is usually much less to their storylines, even in story driven games, so it matters a lot less.
