You'll miss the references and callbacks (of which there are a bloody excessive amount)
I would have to disagree, there are a couple of references to the previous games that they shine a damn spotlight on and a few minor references you probably wouldn't notice if you're not a hardcore fan, but I certainly wouldn't call them excessive.

Anyway, yes OP, you'll understand it and it's awesome. It's not full to the brim with philosophy like the original, but it did replicate the originals almost perfectly absorbing atmosphere.
Plus it allows you to knock guards out, line them up, and then murder them, execution style. The sound in phenomenal as well.

I think it's time for another playthrough.

I thought they were a bit heavy. Harmless, sure, but I find that kind of thing to be a bit... cloying.

Although I'm one of those obsessive types who liked to root out every bit of content, so I may have run into more of them than most people.

Also, no doubt my perception was coloured by that first reference that they ram down your throat.

"Hey Adam, see that elevator over there? Yeah, the password is 0451."
"Did you get that? 0451. Yeah, that's right, 0451."
"Once more, just in case you missed it, it's 0451."
"Hey Adam, the password is 0451. Hey, sound familiar? Eh? Eh?
"0451. The password is 0451 ************! OH FOUR FIVE ONE!"

Too damn right. Talk about driving the reference into the ground.

And thinking back there might have been more references than I first thought. The Deus Ex lore is so second nature to me I think I might have taken quite a few references for granted.
